Hotel rooms that don’t have irons. Surely a basic requirement

Maybe but it does drive me mad. Nice city centre hotels which midweek surely full of people on BUSINESS and not an iron in the room. A basic necessity IMO

Also no biscuits, I always expect a biscuit even if it’s just a two pack of shortbread or biscotti

They’re horrible aren’t they? Deadly for our bees.

The Asian Hornet does look different to our Hornets though, if you see the two within a few weeks of each other they’re very different with the Asian Hornet having that orange/deep red 4th stripe/segment and mostly black https://www.worcswildlifetrust.co.uk/know-your-hornets

If you're fairly certain it was an Asian Hornet I’d certainly report it.

Yep, that’s them. Quite different colour to domestic and European Hornets but similar in size. They don’t pose a danger to humans that much, but they seriously do to our bee population and therefore our food security. If you see one, report it to DEFRA so they can track down and destroy the nest.

Good grief. Horrible looking. I'd be calling Sigourney Weaver to go in and clear out the nest. 🙂

The ever increasing use of the phrase: "Due to unforeseen circumstances...." when an event is cancelled.

F*** right off.... you just cocked up the organisation and are too embarrassed to admit how incompetent you are.

Unforeseen, my arse.

Twats.

Meanwhile, at the venue, the ticket office manager watches Sigourney Weaver check the fuel in her flamethrower, before entering the nest of Giant Asian Hornets.

"They're never going to believe us, when we say this is unforseen," she thinks to herself.

To be fair, that is an excellent catch managing to get both wings at the same time.

Could only be surpassed if done with chopsticks.

Guys, relax, relax (or as they say in Asia, lelaak, lelaak).

That's an Asian Giant Hornet. Not an Asian Hornet. We don't have Asian Giant Hornets. When we do, I leave.

King Charles is worth over £640M but we still pay millions to his household out of the public purse through the Civil List, and his tax liability is "voluntary"..

How much do we pay, individually, per year?

People who whinge about the royal family because they think a modern society doesn’t not need the traditions it’s culture was built on

Too much.

According to Google, approximately £1.29 per person.

Not even half a slice of cake, per year.

Meanwhile, roughly £6 per person in tourism income is generated by the Royal family.

I think we're still in profit in that equation.

Is there anything that £1.29 worth of tax goes to pay for that you approve of that I don't, perhaps? That way, it all cancels itself out and therefore there's nothing for anyone to whinge about.... ;)

How much tourism revenue is generated by the French or Austrian royal palaces without there being a Royal family ?

This is a thread titled "The small things in life that annoy you". As you asserted above, it isn't complicated.

Weston's post brought up the supposed tourism benefits of the Royal family, which monies are generated because people want to see the palaces and castles, not because the tourists are going to have tea with Chuck and Camilla. It is not a non-seqitur to point out that you do not need Kings or Queens for palaces and castles to be revenue generators.

The thing I like most about the royal family is how much they annoy those that don't want them. The more annoyed they get the more it amuses me. Well worth the £1.29 per annum for the entertainment value alone ;)

Like Tintagel castle and the revenue that generates?

If there were no previous kings or Queens, there wouldn't be any palaces or castles, just big houses, and they may not have the same draw.

The legend of King Arthur surely helps.

Just because something seemed like a good idea 300 years ago doesn't mean it has to be retained today. The Palaces of Paris and Vienna aren't simply "big houses"..

Indeed, Versailles is the 3rd most visited attraction in the world.

The top UK site is the Tower of London down in 28th place.
