St Landrew Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 (edited) After the last day's news, I'm sure we're all a bit washed out and lacking in enthusiasm. So if you wish to nominate the B-Team left side striker, then do so. If you don't, I quite understand. This thread will end Sunday evening. EDIT: For those who missed it, here's the A-Team line up: -------------------Shilton--------------------- Golac-------Wright--------Svensson-----Bridge Paine---------Ball---------Le Tissier---Armstrong ------------Channon--------Davies------------- http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=8375 Edited 24 January, 2009 by St Landrew

mynameisthehulk Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 Rod Wallace I dont want this to seem like spam, so I would like to give some reasons why. 1 - Made a lot of space for Matty 2 - Great pace 3 - Could finish 4 - Abilty to play well either on the right or up front 5 - Brave, was never afraid to go up against much bigger opponents 6 - Part of the most insane formation in history

Saint_clark Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 who is the right forward? Keegan. For left side, I will say Pahars as well.
TijuanaTim Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 Keegan. For left side, I will say Pahars as well. Thanks mate, in that case instead of going for the consummate modern 'small' forward Moran, I will plump for Martin Chivers to have a class big fellow to partner Keggy... Then I will go for Steve Moran, as he was KK's strike partner. And a brilliant partnership they were. Remember..? 1981-82 PFA Player of the Year - Kevin Keegan 1981-82 PFA Young Player of the Year - Steve Moran How's that for a bit of spamming..? Says it all really. SNSUN Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 Going to go for another great I never got to see, Steve Moran. Since supporting them, It has got to be a toss up between Beatts, Pahars and Ostenstadt but judging from video footage, books and legend, Moran has to be in there. TopGun Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 (edited) Steve Moran. Far better than anything more recent with possible exception of Pahars at his best. I feel an honourable mention should be made to Phil Boyer though too as he worked his socks off every game (a free goal scoring Brett although I would never deride the effort Ormerod put in to help BT). krissyboy31 Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 I can't really go for Chivers because I only saw him play live once and that was for Spurs. Moran and Pahars have been mentioned but I'm going to go for Frankie Worthington. Only played for us for a short while and was past his best but his touch and vision was as good, if not better, than any player I've seen pull on the famous red and white. John Cool Posted 24 January, 2009 Share Posted 24 January, 2009 Shearer, Walcott and Jones all prospered after leaving Saints, but Rodders had his best years with us, and he was a terrace fave of mine. So I second Rod Wallace.

St Landrew Posted 24 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 24 January, 2009 who is the right forward? Oh, btw, just a reminder of the B-Team so far: ----------------------Niemi---------------------- Dodd------Lundekvam------Watson---------Dennis D.Wallace----Williams---------Case--------Marsden --------------Keegan-----------?----------------- I just wonder whether this team hasn't got just a bit more grit than the A-Team to overcome them. Still, after this vote we have subs and managers to go, so there's still room for variation.

AussieDog Posted 25 January, 2009 Share Posted 25 January, 2009 Although my vote is likely to go with Steve Moran, I thought I would chuck another name into the hat....Peter Osgood. Honorable mention for Ted McDougall, too. Another lazy git who just happened to score goals for fun....lol

St Landrew Posted 25 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 25 January, 2009 I thought this was a democracy. It's a democracy with rules. The rules being the greatest ever players to have played for Saints in living memory. Not somebody's mate.

Chivers was a very good footballer good in the air and had very good ball control I saw him score a great goal in 1964 v Man Utd in the cup down the Dell at the Archers Road end beat a couple of players then hit a left footed screamer in the top left hand corner. Ossie was past his best when he came to us but in the 1960s he was a player people went to watch and paid money to see him. Likewise as you say with Worthington As Chivers is a Southampton Boy as well I will go for him
