Daft Kerplunk Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Financially the problem for women's football (and an understand than silly Semmens completely misses) is that girls in the large are just not going to obsessively follow in the same way men and boys do, with all the commercial value that comes with that. There will be some girls who do, of course, and come international time, there will be decent crowds and interest, but it will be a minority following in the same way sports like rugby are where the main commercial interest is in the international team and the club game is far smaller, but women's club football will have even smaller crowds than rugby. It just needs to cut its cloth accordingly and be appropriately sized for the money it generates.

But its supporters don’t want that. They want to piggy back on the blokes game, whilst pretending it’s empowering birds. It’s actually the complete opposite.

SouthWalesSaints Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Genuine question. Does anyone actually care? 1 2

I'd genuinely like to see them do well, any success for the club / city always welcome Have taken my kids a few times, good for young football mad girls to see them. Enjoyed thrashing Pompey last season, good crowds in for that but otherwise attendances are low Think they'll struggle to get promoted any higher without investment so mid table 2nd tier probably best they can aim for 3

You don't need to if you don't want to My Wife likes going and I am happy to go with her, likewise I'm happy to have a Saturday or Sunday to myself when she goes off to watch with our daughter.

Was genuinely interested. I understand if you have girls they’d like to watch I get that, if I did I’m sure I’d be roped along. But I think it’s horrendous the football, an almost comedy feel to it. I can’t watch it, the goalkeepers can’t touch the cross bar, the pitch being as big as it is makes them all look so slow. It’s a shame as they are technically sound players but it’s a horrid watch and I honestly feel people watch to tick a box. I’d sooner watch a Sunday morning game or an under 12s game for entertainment value. Hence me asking the question, and seeing as only a handful have replied sort of makes my point valid. Each to their own. 2
Tommy Mulgrew Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Martinball levels of possession dominance and three goals scored against WSL1 opponents in a 3:2 win against Crystal Palace. If only our men’s team could replicate that. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/live/cj62y50ee3w3t 1
Fabrice29 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Watched quite a few of their games this season. Incredibly well coached team and very high pressing and they create a lot of chances from that but fail to take them. Think they’ve run out of steam in some games and where they haven’t been ruthless they leave themselves vulnerable. Very young substitutes a lot of the time so will be interesting to see how they hold up over the season. Really like Parker and by the sounds of it he’s already rejected moves elsewhere but would be surprised if that continues to be the case if they can’t find their shooting boots and push up the table.

A lot of that is because the Academy closed its u16s, some were pushed into 21s too early so the 21s have a very young squad this then impacted pushing the better 2nd year u21s into 1st team fold hence having a very young bench and occasional starters 1
suewhistle Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Thanks, that makes sense. I was watching some friends here over Portsmouth way in a friendly which enabled some underage players to take part; there were 2 (or was it 3?) sisters and very good and reminded me one of the reasons I retired.. Not just my lack of skill but mainly being as slow as Vestergaard.. The mum was commenting how disappointed they were that Southampton had closed the U16s.

Remember when Semmens said that the womens team would be as big as the mens very soon 😂 Not many genuinely care the ones that do only say they do as they think they should care as it make them think they look like decent people. Like you say if you've got a daughter then they might be interested but there is so little genuine interest it makes the claims that they should get equal pay even more ridiculous. There is a womens football thread on here and you've only got to look at the posts during the international tournaments, when England were in the semi finals and finals there were zero posts about it until i pointed the fact out that no one was talking about it despite so many claiming how great it is, then got told i was a sexist and had something against womens football 😂 Edited 8 hours ago by Turkish

Using those will make you look slightly less of an oddball. But given you’re one of the mighty few who have avoided falling into the trap of pretending to care to make you look decent, have you considered not posting in the thread? I don’t really care about kits every year but think I’d lose my mind if I felt the urge to post how little they matter to me when others dare to show an interest. 1

The amount of time and effort you've spent fishing for bites over many years, by posting in numerous threads on women's football about how little you care about it, does make you look a bit of a weirdo. 1

First post on this thread today since July 3rd only 7 since March 2025 if that’s your definition of “the amount of time and effort” I’d hate to be your boss Edited 4 hours ago by Turkish
