Insensitive to whom?

Anybody who cares about seeing an end to the use of lazy racial stereotypes.

Michelle Agyemang is only 5'7, and thus not considered 'big' by anybody's definition. So by dismissively referring to her as 'the big black bird', because you can't be bothered to look up her name, you demonstrate a thoughtless ignorance and invoke a harmful racist trope about big black women in sport, even if that wasn't your intention.

As the forum's self-proclaimed expert on 'things that are racist', I might have expected you to understand this, but you're obviously still playing dumb.

Germany nearly won right at the end, with a deflection and then follow up both saved. Only minutes before, also in added time, Spain got in behind on the flank, and their sub striker was an inch away from getting contact, which would have beaten Berger.

Germany contained throughout thecsecond half, with little spells of pressure from Bohl and Hoffman, before she went off. Spain happy to foul Brand, knowing what a threat she is.

Spain made an England like sub, in getting more of a target on. It's nearly paid off a few times, and more than their attempts to pass through have done.

Into extra time.

Definitely looking the more likely to win it now. Spain seem to have completely run out of steam.

quick FACT check

3 random photos selected from googling her name clicking images. In all 3 see appears significantly bigger than the other women on the photo by any measure she appears big, compared to the others

unless saying  a black person is black is now considered derogatory, offensive and lazy racial stereotyping then difficult to see how this can be classed as offensive

so unless I’m missing something it seems that the people offended are you by simply stating a fact you don’t like and the lazy racial stereotype is in fact no such thing.

Not all her fault - as is the norm in the modern game, just before the goal, the German player tried a hopeful pass which was never on when she should have lashed the ball into row Z.

Oh this is priceless. You've scoured the internet and found 3 photos showing her alongside players who just happen to be shorter than she is, to justify your description of her as being FACTually correct.

Well done you.

“Scoured the internet” = googled her name, clicked images and within about 5 seconds found those photos. Priceless indeed given you must have “scoured the internet” to find her height to justify your argument that she isn’t big. Pretty funny that one

don’t get upset, we get you love to be offended. Maybe we’ll see an end to lazy racial stereotypes when people like you stop looking for them everywhere.

Have to say, the commentators are bloody annoying when they go on about how brilliant Bonmati is when the fact is that is a stone cold goalkeeping disaster.

Stop disrespecting women’s football!!!

Fine margins. Kleinherne had to go off, making a last ditch tackle to prevent a one one one with the 'keeper. Her replacement, Lohmann, is just that little keener to keep possession. Despite a couple of good challenges, and looking to build from defence, she opts to pass than clear. That lets Bonmati in, with a good dummy taking her past a defender and a shot that exploits the half foot Berger had left, expecting a cross.

Spain, unable to pass through Germany, continued to build on stretching the width. But even one up, Schuller had a decent strike. In the last seconds, Spain inexplicably moved up, but Brand's pass went in front of everyone.

Spain will be favourites in the final. Germany sacrificed a lot of their attack, to keep them at bay. England aren't set up to do that, not does it match their strength. But Spain also have a more creative midfield, who also don't mind getting plenty of frustrating fouls in.

England have to set themselves up to directly pressure Spain's high line of defence and push them back as much as possible. Spain were clearly better in the recent friendly, so hopefully Wiegman has some ideas to stop them.

Oh here we go. Backed into a corner he's now reverting to gaslighting... "Nothing wrong with what I said - the problem must be you". That's a new low even for you Turkish.

I didn't need to look for it in this instance, when it was so clear and obvious. I get that you have a reputation as the forum hard man to maintain, but when multiple posters pull you up on what was, at best, a sloppy choice of words then maybe that's a sign that perhaps it wasn't your best moment. But no, you've dug in and doubled down, and tried so hard to justify it with 'facts' that you've made yourself look desperate and pathetic. This is particularly hilarious, given that you have spent at least the last ten years constantly hounding and attacking a certain other poster every time he posts something that could be misconstrued.

Let's go back to Whelk's previous question, and all joking aside... If there was a 5'7 black woman working in your office, and you couldn't remember/didn't know her name, would you even dream of describing her to one of your colleagues as "the big black bird"?

I think we all know the answer to that, don't we.

Look, many of you virtue signalling here do not really care about women’s football for about 48 weeks of the year.

Many of us who are more honest that we  don’t care about women’s football, do not care about 1 whole week more than you.

Batman, the point here is whether calling someone a "big black bird" is acceptable. It isn't.

I don’t consider myself better or worse than anyone so the duck hunter comment is unnecessary. It’s quite amusing the amount of people getting themselves angry about the “disrespect” a young girl they’d not even heard of 2 weeks ago mind

Turks, from here, you do think you are better than anybody else, but in the main you are better than most for your devilment and trying to gee up this place which sometimes is dull as.

I hadnt heard of Agyemang until the Sweden game but to be fair I didnt know of many of the others either

If the rest of the team were black and the tall girl up front was white, would 'big white bird' be acceptable? Just asking for a friend.

Ok, so if an African team happened to field a white player and Turks mentioned the 'white girl', would that be acceptable?

Surely only 'bird' can be objected to, nowadays a sexist expression, 'big' is a little bit iffy for a woman (not a man). Using the word 'black' to identify someone in a team of mostly white players, I don't see a problem.

Given, as you say, it takes a matter of seconds to locate helpful info on the Internet, perhaps it may have served you better to bother looking up her name in the first place.

I think you could probably manage something like "england women".

First result is 'England Women's Senior national football team | Lionesses', which contains numerous articles mentioning Agyemang, with pictures. Second result is the Wikipedia page 'England women's national football team', which contains the current squad.

Afraid not when I put England women in, she is 23rd on the list of top searched players and doesn’t even have a photo on the page, which wouldn’t help me. But i guess makes sense as everyone seems to knew very detail about her already including her height without having to look it up

You're being deliberate obtuse (you?!) as I clearly mentioned the first and second linked results.

But OK, let's really push the boat out with a search string that only a Google jedi could manage: "england women injury time winner"

Right at the top of the page it generates the following summary from a BBC article:

"Nearing the end of injury time, the Lionesses were goalless to Italy, who had scored a goal in the first half. That was until 19-year-old Michelle Agyemang scored at 96 minutes, moments from the final whistle, saving the team from certain defeat."

One minute you're saying how quick and easy it is to use a search engine, the next you're incapable of this. 😆

Almost refreshing (purely in the context of Saints Web, not the wider universe) to see Turkish having to backpedal and play his waffling contrarian "not me guv" avoidance bullshit about something racial rather than his usual go to of dancing round being openly homophobic and then denying he has said anything controversial whatsoever. Usual tactics. Drop a grenade and then retreat to a position of intellectual ineptitude and apparent disinterest.
