Not unhappy to see a player go that refuses to play (if that’s true), but as our best CB (not difficult) it’s all about the replacement(s). Schlotterbeck has made a big difference but a new right-sided CB better than Stephens and Woods is essential to our promotion push. Think £30m is a good deal for Villa based on current player sales and THB’s potential in a better defence, but he’s not irreplaceable.

He ended up being a best player last season. But I always questioned his attitude. Always got the impression he thought he was too good for us.

The whole binoculars celebration fiasco never aged well, and he was never going to live that down. (although he was provoked in that game by the Boro scum cunts, so I would have probably done the same)

 

One of those players that you love to hate when he's not playing for you. I don't think he'll ever be the England CB that we all predicted, but I wish him no harm.

I think it was a case of our targets being a bit ambitious, and ending up with the bambino.

Sad to see him go, but can't begrudge him this move, he has a great chance to make it in the Prem now with such a good manager showing faith in him. Good luck THB.

Classy player, enjoyed watching him, scored some important goals and too good to spend another season in the Championship.

Has earned another shot at a higher level, just a shame it wasn’t with us.
