I have a similar experience. Sadly, not everyone who's shat on in the initial refusal has the wherewithal or support to challenge. I don't mix in the same kind of circles as Alex, so I don't know of any shirkers, but I know several people who have had to go through the ordeal of an assessment, then an appeal, before getting what they need. 

I think some people just assume that benefits are being stolen by the greedy, and that everyone who needs them, gets them.

Yes it does. I suspect there are regions where your experience is the norm and others where, perhaps through stress on the system, things are not as stringently controlled.

It's more you have to go through tests for over a year to diagnose, including psychological tests and the backlog is huge. People round us started testing in Year 1, and weren't diagnosed in time for secondary.

Are you going to send the name and info through or not? Or are, as we all suspect, making stuff up? @sadoldgit I think you'll be interested at the outcome of this little saga, as one of your biggest critics is being shown up for doing exactly the same thing that you're accused of.

Don't forget, you were the one criticising this person. You then threw your other half under the bus by making her look a scumbag by keeping this type of company. And now it looks like big tough Navy boy is scared to send it through, and instead he's enabling this behaviour.

No, you were giving me the details and info of a known benefits cheat because you didn't have the balls to report them - which you said you'd supply if I gave you an email address to send it to.

Not that we’ve seen it this summer, but seen some horrible shunts in that road in the wet  as water tends to collect after sustained and intense rainfall.

Whilst we no doubt need more mental health treatment centres, has this really been thought through?  Essentially you can get help from 9 to 5 Monday to Friday (maybe, unless your bank is only open 10-4!), but is that really when most mental health crises happen?  I assume they are more likely to happen outside of those hours?

I'm all in favour of this idea. From 2010 onwards the Tories ripped apart provisions for MH support in the NHS under the guise of austerity and, surprise surprise, the result was a massive increase in cases of severe MH episodes.

I've known more than one person in recent years who have had major MH issues and trying to get any kind of help from the NHS has been like trying to get MLG to admit he is wrong. One person I know had a major psychotic episode and had pretty much detached from reality completely, but because they hadn't threatened to kill anyone, the doctors couldn't find a bed for them at a suitable facility and they had to stay at home and be cared for by their partner who had no training in this area and had to take time off work unpaid. The stress of this ultimately destroyed their relationship, and led to further MH issues for the partner.

Walk in centres with properly trained MH professionals is a great proposal because GPs generally don't have a clue in this area, and if they can't give an immediate prescription or make a suitable referral, they mostly don't want to know.
