Obviously going up this season (assuming they don't bottle it again). Seem to have a knack of getting important late goals. Probably benefitting from having an extra year in this league.

Yeah, I do actually think they will go up this season unfortunately.

Boro looked reasonable but Stoke should have gone 2-1 up and their defending from that corner was a joke. I can't see them maintaining all season with lucky winners late on. Thought the ref let Borges off way too much with pulling, backing in etc in both boxes.

Swansea look good also but we battered them and their fixtures to date generally look like they've been against poor or struggling sides?

Boro going infuriatingly well.

Another game where they had a lot of help from the referee tbh. They're decent and we all know that - but we need to up our game to challenge top 2 or its irrelevant.

+6 GD says they’ll struggle to continue winning as they’re.  I didn’t think that much of them.  Keep it to within 6 when we play them at our place and we’ll beat them. No doubts at all.

Wolves losing is great, Swansea can’t win this league they are poor. Long way to go, but I do think it’ll be Boro, WHU, Us, Wolves and Burnley come the end.

I think the only real difference is Boro now have a quality striker, something they didn't have last season. He seems to be able to play Saturday/Tuesday no problem - where as we have to manage Larin game by game.

They are soft at the back though. Didn't realise how many points they've dropped from winning positions, and they threw the lead away twice again tonight before snatching it at the end. They really aren't very good defensively.

I think we'll beat them fairly comfortably at home.

Why do so many on this forum make statements like this? It's not yet obvious that they're going up. We're not even into November!

Yeah we should have gone for Lankshear.

Play offs were realistically our best chance of going up anyway , top two with-4 is too much for our squad with reliance on Larin

He wouldn’t have come to sit on the bench realistically

Guess so but would have been a battle between him and Larin to claim.top spot, with the other coming on like Stewart used to.

Anyway lucky we didnt get him as otherwise we wouldn't have had the money for Dobbin

Wolves were going to walk this league, then West Ham. Obviously now Boro will and we are 9 games in. The average fan struggles to remember more than two games back.

I would not write Swansea off as promotion contenders. Their away form is better than ours for a start. We definitely need to turn up tomorrow and make a statement.

Why would he have been expected to sit on the bench ? He wouldn’t have been given assurances over being a starter from day one, but he’d have had plenty of game time even if rotated with Larin.

Same as Charlton, they'll fade

Total luck tonight, it catches up with you

Bolton fans praising Baz tonight... at 1-1 he pulled off a worldie save from Armstrong.

Be interesting to see how he performs  on Saturday.

That’s a first.
Did it hit him in the face ?

Agree that I expect Middlesbrough to be in with a shout for top two, but nothing to do with an extra year in the league. More that they’ve made some good signings (GK, striker and possibly CB).

I called this ages ago, we lose 0-1 to the Wanderers of Bolton and Baz will be man of the match, mark my words

Yes very good business, key positions that strengthened them straight away

I don't think it will be comfortable. They are a good side and an obvious rival for us - they know it as well, which is why they spent so much effort in the media to try to screw us over.

Because he’s not better than Larin. Why would he come to be second choice/rotation when he’s guaranteed to be the main man at a promotion contender?

Larin is whacked much of the time.

Whether he is not as good as Larin is very subjective. I would suggest had we had another strikers as good/like Larin, we would see a set up that served us well after Xmas.

Obviously - but we don’t, in the same way that Boro have no back up for Lankshear.

Let’s see who manages more minutes and goals, we know that Larin is goosed at 60 mins more often than not.

Might be debatable but I don’t actually think Lankshear is that good. Hes scored a few goals but he’s not prolific and he is a gamble.

Most have been tap ins from the six yard box, and because he’s English any club buying him had to pay the English tax, which means his value goes up.

He’s made an ok start but I wouldn’t say I’ve seen enough that makes me go “bloody hell I wish we had him”.

Not sure how that counters that Boro have no backup either, in the same way we don’t. Either those strikers get injured, both teams are knackered.

He’s more of a poacher. The sort of player who might be quiet all game but then pops up in the right place at the right time to score the winner. He didn’t do much yesterday (though didn’t get a lot of service) but when the keeper spilled one from long range he had been sharp enough to follow it in for a tap in.

He’s not the biggest either, he’s more of a fox in the box type, but he’s good at it. I think I read somewhere that all (or almost all) of his goals this season have been one touch / first time finishes.

So he’s a different style of player to Larin, and they each have their own qualities.

Swansea and Boro winning away.

we need to start this habit soon, or autos will always be out of reach

I agree we need to start winning away starting today at Norwich. As to the autos being out of reach I tend to view the 4 point deduction in my own way which is to take it over the whole season. To give the deduction a different perspective I look at it as one point deducted per quarter - so knock off a point after the first 11 games (Saturday) then a point each after 23, 34 and 46 games. So, if we do beat Norwich tonight then Bolton on Saturday (2 more tough games) we'll have earned 23 points less one deduction for the first quarter of the season making 22. Swansea currently have 23 points but face West Ham at home on Saturday and Boro have 21 with a home game against Cardiff. It's still all to play for.

My point. We clearly needed someone as good as Larin so he can be rotated, as he is usually whacked 60-70 mins in, let alone play full pelt regularly for 3 games a week. If Lankshear has more in the tank, the need for Boro to have a like-for-like on the bench is less than ours.

Time will tell I guess. Hopefully Mubama is able to make a big impact

It’s just annoying how many goals he’s got because most of them are crap. Last night was a shit parry from the keeper straight into his path, he was miles offside for one a few weeks ago, mostly just rebounds and tap ins like others have said. Of course it’s a decent skill to have to always be in the right place, but certainly don’t wish we had him over Larin.
