Maybe time for a new thread since it seems like it might kick off in the South Atlantic again.

Do we have a navy big enough to transport troops or will we be commandering cruise ships again?  Do we have enough planes or will we rely on drones?  

Maybe the burning question is why is David Dickinson the President of Argentina?

Donnie says that because we didn't help with Iran, ( help he said the US didn't need ), the US is reconsidering it's position on the Falklands and might well side with his BFF Milei.

Deter the Argies, possibly. Even this ability is growing insignificant

Retake them if needed - absolutely no chance what so ever.

We are done as a serious conventional military force. As said for the last few years, against a peer/near peer advisory we would be done and dusted over a bad weekend.

Fortunately Argentina are nothing like a near peer they in effect have no Navy with which to take the islands and no air force to ealistically threaten the on station Typhoons.  It is as always just posturing from an Argentine president because there is trouble at home the classic right wing distraction/othering solution to hide the real problems!

Yeo, we can thank the Tories for hollowing it out over their 14 years term and surely just laugh at the posturing Badenoch blabbing about increasing it by 10bn....🤣

Argentina are vastly weaker militarily compared to 1982. They've weakened themselves more than we have. Our garrisoned forces on the islands are already capable of repelling them. We have 1500 troops on the islands and it's been said by military experts that it would take 3 typhoon jets to gain air superiority. We currently have 4 typhoon jets on the island. There could be no surprise attack like in 1982 either. We'd see them coming days in advance with modern surveillance technology.

There's very little point trying to keep on this arsehole's good side. Time the UK reconsiders it's position on letting the US use our military bases if that's the way he wants to go.

Correct, in 1982 we had circa 40 Royal Marines on the islands, no air assets, an unarmed ice patrol ship and no facilities to reinforce by air.  All that has changed, with circa 1500 service personnel now stationed there.  The current order of battle and operational state of the Argentinian Navy is woeful at best 2 Frigates and 2 patrol ships, no submarines, no amphibious capabilty and no organic fixed wing air.  The air bridge to The Falklands via Ascension is fully established and operational. The Argentinian Air Force only currently has 6 operational fixed wing combat jets! The RAF have the capacity to deliver a battalion sized force, most likely drawn from 16 Air Assault Brigade, with artillery and air assets to the Falklands very quickly.

Yes and Majors huge cuts in the nineties. Remember John Knott, if the Argentinians had waited until 1983/84 we would not have been able to retake the Falklands his proposed massive cuts to the Navy, supported by Thatcher, would have ended all fixed wing aviation and amphibious capability. The Falklands saved Thatcher but consigned Knott to a foot note of history.

Fair point if you only count frigates, ill include the 6 T45s and 2 aircraft carriers, 5 SSNs, 3 OPVs and 2 Hydrographic Ships during Blairs tenure.  Both Labour and the Tories have been guilty of failing the armed forces and the defence of the realm.
