once_bitterne Posted 4 February, 2009 Share Posted 4 February, 2009 Grow up. Man City, Leeds, Forest and Leicester have all fallen to the third tier of English football in the past decade. If it does happen to us it won't mean the end of SFC. Ten years ago Hull were rock bottom the Div 4 and look where they are now so keep the faith. If we do go down then fan numbers will have a major effect on our chance of going up as we will be one of the richer clubs in L1 if we can average 15k-20k when many other teams in the league struggle to get more than 10. There will still be games to go to next year so only the fickle fans will drift away. I'm sure they wil return if/when our fortunes improve. once_bitterne Posted 4 February, 2009 Share Posted 4 February, 2009 Tbf i doubt most, if any of the clubs in league 1 have £27m worth of debt. Our debt really isn't that much of an issue. The majority of the debt you mention is in the mortgage which is a long term debt with very managable yearly payments even in L1. What would cause the club to hit admin is cash flow problems but once the last of the big earners like Skacel, Euell, BWP, etc are sold or out of contract then our wage bill for the likes of McG, James, Seijs, Perry and the rest is very managable indeed. Even in L1......

West End Saint Posted 4 February, 2009 Share Posted 4 February, 2009 I think you have to accept that things are over for this season I have thought for ages if we are bottom 3 at the end of Jan & we were & I now accept that in likely hood we are going down. It has happened to bigger clubs than us who knows we might do a Leicester can't see that though as we will be in turmoil/admin but you never know. In the car on the way home last nite we were talking about a league and cup double Johnstons Paint Trophy (to much beer methinks) I just hope that when it happens the club have sorted its self out Lowe Wild and Wotte have fecked off and we have a chairman manager team and supporters pulling in the same direction. Even in L1...... How much are the 'mortgage' repayments they must be of the order of £2m per year. Most other clubs in League 1 will not be saddled with those but our income will be very similar to theirs, unless we can fill the stadium which won't happen with this manager and what would be left of this squad. The difference between watching blackpool or yeovil is so small I couldnt give a toss, its still Saints im going to support. It sucks that we'll be in that league, but its not the end. UTS Keep the Faith Lowe out Thank you Once Bitterne & WE Saint..! After feeling pretty damned depressed for most of last night (not quite wrist slitting or bridge jumping time - but pretty close), I have to say that reading your posts has cheered me up no end this afternoon. It's good to see that amongst all of the shambles and chaos that is currently SFC, there are fans that are willing to pick up the peices and keep supporting. I too, have resigned myself to L1, but as you have pointed out - it's happened to clubs bigger and better than us - guess it's just time to deal with it. Many thanks. Whitey Grandad Posted 4 February, 2009 Share Posted 4 February, 2009 I have no problem with being in league 1, in fact I'm looking forward to going to some away games at real football grounds. Dicko Posted 4 February, 2009 Share Posted 4 February, 2009 I think relegation may not be as devasting as we imagine IF Rupert and his lapdogs go, some fans will possibly return, energised by new ownership and a definite chance of seeing a few wins at SMS We'll be one of the biggest supported clubs in the League and will probably have incresed away support as the die-hards look forward to seeing some new grounds OK, we will probably start the season with minus 10 points and it might even take 2 or 3 seasons to return, but at least the future will be brighter

Can somebody please re-iterate when these players' contracts expire? (I'm too busy to look it up myself!) £2m a year is the same as about 4000 fans at £20 a head for each home game of the season. Even if we get 10,000 for each home game (which I doubt) we will have the same income as a team that averages 6,000 - so we will not even be a big boy finance wise in League 1. Foxstone Posted 4 February, 2009 Share Posted 4 February, 2009 It has to be said that Sheffield Wednesday have been to the league below and got out of it in a much more parlous financial situation than ours. Indeed I think their debt remains worse than ours (above £30 million?) now. Now while they have had the good fortune of decent managers in recent times (Luggy and Laws) as compared to us (Pearson the notable exception), they too have had to suffer the same indignity and misfortune as us by having an abject, divisive and bloody useless leadership/boardroom, and repeated let downs of takeovers/financial investment etc... Perhaps all might not be lost. Also spare a thought for Charlton who were a reasonably well run club in the prem in more recent times than us, and if we are doomed then they are already dead ! VectisSaint Posted 4 February, 2009 Share Posted 4 February, 2009 Given that the most likely scenario is that Charlton and watford will go down with us, and that Leeds will still be there (unless Glyn Snodin works his magic this season) then we will be one of arguably 4 big clubs in the 3rd Division next season. There is certainly no guarantee that we would be re-promoted (Loweism) or even make the play-offs even if we did have a decent manager. Add to that the likelihood that if we are relegated we will go into Admin, the outlook is indeed rosy:(

So manageable we have had to restructure it once possibly twice in the championship. It aslo gets paid from season ticket revenue, even we don't get relegated season ticket renewals will fall, if we do then they will fall even further and be cheaper than they are now. 1976_Child Posted 4 February, 2009 Share Posted 4 February, 2009 I'm not sure the title of this thread is applicable to SFC but it sure as hell is to the UK. As I sat on the train this morning, coming back from the game, I had one of those rare epiphany moments and suddenly I saw the country in its true light. What Gordon Brown, Blair before him and all the so-called labourists have done to our country is a crime of unimaginable scale. (Actually, the charge can be squarely levelled at all politicians of any colour.) Does there exist anywhere a less competent group of non-entities than the parliamentary labour party? They are only in it for themselves. They get eye-watering salaries (which they set themselves) they get lavish expense accounts and for a period of five years never have to fear losing their jobs. And oh yes, then there are the rock-solid gold-plated diamond encrusted pensions. This country is bankrupt and the corrupt pigs in parliament don't give a t0ss. Brown should swing from a lamp post for what he has done to the country. So should the bankers. So should Lowe. The only thing still worth being alive for in this sh!t hole is SFC and even that is painful. Why can't we frickin win a game at home? I am p!ssed off with life. RoswellSaint Posted 4 February, 2009 Share Posted 4 February, 2009 I'm sorry but I'm confused. Isn't relegation decided after 46 games not 31? That gives us a third of the season still to play? Legod Third Coming Posted 4 February, 2009 Share Posted 4 February, 2009 We will be the big fish of league 2 in a few years! We were the firking REAL MADRID of this league last season!!! And the season before... The problem with this club is that it cannot cope with expectation. That is the thinking of losers. Which for 12 years bar a brief spell under the Ginger Whinger, is what we have been. That is an inarguable proof.
