Rumour from Wolves

Torbay Saint

Recommended Posts

As it is a Friday I thought I would post the following. I post this not knowing the basis or the truth behind this rumour. I simply pass on the information that was posted on my facebook wall by a friend who supports Wolves. He states:

"I thought under the circumstances with the Saints struggling I would drop you a line to tell you a rumour I have heard from Wolverhampton. As we are top of the league it's all fine at the moment, however....Steve Morgan our chairman has been seen coming in and out of St Mary's. The talk is that he is going to table a bid to buy out Lowe. He would still be at Molineux but also own Southampton and take Mick McCarthy with him next season (as McCarthy has proved he is not a Prem manager before.) I will let you know if I hear anymore. That's the news from Wolvo anyway."

Now this all seems very far fetched to me. For instance does Steve Morgan own Wolves...I did not think you could own two clubs in the Football League.

Has anyone else heard anything similar?

Isn't it more likely that someone from Southampton would notice the ins and outs of Saint Mary's?

Not saying it's wrong or anything, just doesn't add up that a Wolves fan would notice their chairman coming in and out of a stadium in the south...

Not keen on Mick either, seems to be a poor man's Glenda in terms of man management.

Completely against FA regulations.

He would have to sell his interest in Wolves first.

Having said that, maybe them being on the verge of the PL, he might have someone lined up, and be thinking he cannot afford PL-level investment for Wolves's team.

Who bloody knows ?

Is he still the major shareholder in Redrow Homes?

If so, you could be right, his financial position might not be strong enough to keep Wolves in the Premier League

The big difference is when wolves were for sale Jack Hayward let the buyers (presumably this Morgan chap) have the club for a pound just as long as they commited to investing x million into the team.

I think it would take more than a pound and some nice football-team related investment promises to prise the shares out of Rupert's cold, dead hand.

Maybe !

Any idea of how much Morgan paid for Wolves ?

As im sure he would get heck of a lot more for them if he was looking to sell if they do make the PL.

lolololololol

i think that is illegal

Its not illegal. It may be against Football League or FA Rules but that doesn't make it illegal. The Old Bill wouldn't give a toss if someone owned 2 football clubs, but Lord Mawhinney might.

However, lets say Wolves are in the Premier League (FA) and Saints (being optimistic) are in the CCC (FL) I'm not 100% sure that there are rules that prevent this, though I would suspect there are. Otherwise Manure's owners or someone could also own a feeder club like Bury.

It is definately against the rules. A great rumour though.

Definitely,definitely,definitely.

Nick I wouldn't have thought you'd fall into the old definitely trap.

God how that irks me that intelligent people can't spell that particular word.

The rest I don't care about but it's pronouced definitely and can't even be the victim of transatlantic phonetic spelling.

Unless of course one of the two clubs mentioned sold themselves to the Hungarian team who were linked to both all last week.

hmm

That has nothing to do with it, unless Steve Morgan owned Ujpest....which he doesn't.

Aside from this there is no way they wouldn't give McCarthy a go and the Premiership having taken them to the Premiership.

Someone who has conjured this rumour up has an overactive imagination.

Perhaps Steve Morgan has a thing about 'hamptons' - check if he is also buying Northampton and Littlehampton.

Not to mention Okehampton and Boghampton.

Ex Liverpool fan apparently, strange that, rich Liverpool fans always buy other clubs and become lifelong supporters. Same sort of thing about rich mexicans, they become spaniards.

Would a merger be illegal?

Wolverhampton Saints....got a ring to it....

You heard it here first....

p.s. thread creator has under 100 posts and joined in Spring 2007....plant alert....;)

Sadly I have been a Saints fan since the early 1980s and was on the march last Saturday and have my ticket for Bristol away. Living in Cardiff and formally torbay I travel a signficant distance to attend games so I hope that provides you with significant assurance that I am not a plant!

More than likely the Wolves fan has visited this board. He's seen how desperate most of us are and thought us ripe for a good old wind up. Can hardly blame him really.

The Wolves fan is not like that.

If you remember Morgan's first interest was Liverpool. He could not afford them so did a deal for Wolves.

I am not sure if it was £30m or £25m, but there was a commitment to invest. Wolves of course had already had a rich benefactor who paid for their stadium & ensured they had no debt.

Thats sound nice - no stadium mortgage & zero debts! Why couldnt Jack heyward have been a Saints fan?

Wolves & Saints had friendlies against Upjest, Wilde & Morgan have possible links. Morgan seen at SMS. Saints sign a CB from Upjest

What else have we missed in the scramble to diss the poster is all I was pointing out.

In business terms - take Wolves up sell them straight away for a nice profit as they are a PL team and buy, turn us around strip out the land and the same again.

Worked in property speculation for a long time why not?

At least it is a RUMOUR, been ages since we had one of those

I have asked him to provide a source for this rumour. I could not see anything on the Wolves message board but he might know more than me. I will of course post any link I am provided with.

cheers. Make it snappy though as I've got to head off in half hour....

Interesting , Steve Morgan does NOT own Wolves , He IS part of an Investment fund that purchased wolves . What his shareholding in Wolves is I dont know but maybe the Joe guy from the Hungarian team suggested a capital share investment with the fund and Morgan is the front man .

Maybe

IMHO

impossible, you are not allowed to have interests in 2 clubs, robert maxwell tried it with derby and oxford (i think it was those 2 clubs??) years ago and he had to sign one of them over to his son.

now if he was to give up the whole wolves thing and try and buy saints then that would be a good rumour but i cant see McCarthy wanting to stay in the championship,he got them up (well not yet) and he will want to prove a few people wrong by trying to keep them in the prem.

i would like to believe it but i just cant see this rumour bear any fruit in its current form.

but if it comes from Facebook, it must be true, right? ;)

Hence I have asked him to source it. Unbelievable that you make a post entitled 'rumour' andplace as many disclaimers as you possibly can and it is still not good enough. Perhaps in the future I will keep information I am provided to myself. I thought this site was for fans, not just for those with the 'I have posted over 1,000 times' badge....

hey, I don't have many more posts than you. I was just joking but there have been so many rumours that everyone gets a little cynical. Steve Morgan might actually make one of the better suggested owners if it were to happen.

Nooo, that's an unlucky name, the baseball Cubs haven't won anything in 101 years, even we have done better than that.

Roswell:p

The Saints Cubs have set out to equal or better that record and we are going about it in the perfect mode so far.

Torbay go with the flow and put up whatever you hear. Just remember the posters on here are like a pack of Wolves..But some like me are mere cute cubs..surely you are beginning to tell the difference? :)
