Do we want a Billionaire to take us over?

When I first head about Chelsea & Abramovic I thought I would hate that to be us, surely its better to gain success through hard work I reasoned. Must admit though that the mere thought of one of the worlds richest men (Ambami ) ploughing both investment & ambitious plans into our club are starting to give me that warm sensation!

As somebody on another forum wrote today:

We were Lowes playing and he had no money.

If you are going to be a plaything you might as well be a billionaires.

My only concern is that we get some investment and survive as a club. I can honestly say I'll enjoy watching saints just as much regardless of which division we're playing in.

I don't really like the idea of being owned by a billionaire arab who is only rich because he was born somewhere with a lot of oil, even if that did bring us success.

Bit early to start talking about this. I was so disappointed after it looked certain that PA would come in for us. I reckon there will be big build up and then LLS is the only one with an offer on the table :(

Its odds on its probably not true.

Inspired by FF's thread, I've thought about this today. Having spent the last years being considered a customer, and not a fan, I've had a taste of what it is like to be a follower of some impersonal club. It's not cosy and clubby at all, like the sailing club I'm a member of. And in the worst incidences, say... if I got into difficulties out in the Solent, there's several people I could call upon before having to get the RNLI out.

SFC are already far too big and impersonal for me to worry about whether they should be headed by local people who have barely got the pennies to scrape together to last a couple of seasons, as they limp from one false hope to another. Sure, in an ideal world, Richard Branson would see the error of his ways, give David Frost and Gavyn Davies a ring, and they'd ring their buddies, and we all be carried away on a sea of investment and fast tracked success. Not like QPR.

But it isn't going to happen. So if I want to see Saints in the Premiership in the fastest possible time, and for other people to stop saying Southampton who..? Then we'd better have a billionnaire who loves to throw petty cash away because it's so much fun. And anyway, the landscape and weather is so much nicer here than oop north, which is undoubtedly why they are falling over themselves to be first in line.

Yup, a billionaire would be quite nice :D

Had enough of not going anywhere now, if we have to go down this route i would rather come out of it in the best possible position ! As long as he does not just turn up, spend loads and leave us in debt.

Also, who is this LLS ?? Forgive me for being ignorant.

Right now the answer is a qualified "yes".

Qualified because if Rupert were to win a 20-fold Euro Millions mega roll-over and tried to buy the club, I'd be a bit peeved.

And sadly wealth doesn't stop you being an egotistical tw*t as Hearts found out. In fact some might say that the traits you need to amass that much wealth wouldn't necessarily lead you to being the most benevolent of dictators.

yes

But will hate to see all the glory hunters change their colours and support us when we are in the champions league final

and complain because they cant get a ticket. You know the ones, I used to have a season ticket and so deserve a ticket to the final

Right now I'd accept a take over by Osama Bin Laden if it guaranteed Saints survival!

Actually come to think of it Bin Laden would be perfect - he's supposed to be worth a few bob or to and he's unlikely to interfere in team affairs from his cave.

Although some people might have a few issues with the half time entertainment...

I want us to be taken over by a load of super dooper fans who have chopped up their furniture for firewood and sold it on and did a charity cake day and a bring and buy sale and a pub quiz and a tin with all our holiday change in and guess the name of the teddy and my mate knows someone who owns a scaffolding company and he's pledged two grand and I'm running the London marathon for my mum but she'll probably last a year so all the money can go to the club instead and we've raised nearly fifty odd grand and everything and we don't really have the faintest idea what we are going to do next.

i dont care who buys us as long as we stay alive. if we are relegated i will be truly gutted but my love for the club will not die. Its strange when i moved to Korea 2 years ago my last game i saw was the play off semi first leg.(2 games away from the prem) when i returned for a week last year i saw last 2 games and was wierd i felt happier thatlast game than beeting liverpool 4-2 in the snow way back. My point is i will be back for 2 weeks in August and although my club has fallen from grace a little over the last few years. I have made 10-15 people support saints and buy shirts and i will support them if we are a 2 bit blue square south team or a fully fledged prem team. We are born saints and we will die saints. its not a matter of choosing its the way it is. I am still proud to walk in my shirt knowing that i represent my town and no matter what, good or bad i will be there in body or spirit to support the boys in red n white. **** all this financial ******** i couldnt give too ****s as long as i still have a club too come back too. As loing as there are 11 men on a field wearing red n white with what i feel is the most meaningful badge in the world on their shirt then i will be cheering the boys on and all will be right in the world.COME ON YOU REDS

Paolo Sousa has just been sacked for divulging sensative info, this is in regard to not knowing that Blackstock was going out on loan.

QPR fans are really not impressed with the wealthy owners, and haven't been for a while it seems.

Maybe being a "wealthy club" comes with it's own problems.

Who in their right mind would want our club to be owned by billionaires ;)

There are dangers with Billionaire owners such as when they get bored with their toy and pull their money out they could leave the club in the **** by leaving them with a huge wage bill and no way of being able to cover it. The ideal owner for me would be a rich fan of the club, at least when he ever decided enough is enough you'd l;ike to think he'd leave the club in a healthy state.

I really don't care who comes in as long as they are really wanting the best for the club and fans.

I would prefer someone who knows about football and apreciates what winning means to the fans.

Not asking for us to buy the league (ie Blackburn in the nintees and more recently Cheslea) That way you end up with very much plastic fans. But I do want serious investment in to the team and management. No more 500k gambles. I want us to be competitive that is all.

I would much rather buy 3/4 players at a few million each than 8/10 players at 300k or less.

But if the man/men in charge want to splash the millions the........i am sure i will still sleep at night.

A billionaire is going to wait for Saints to go into admin to save a couple of million. LOL.

You guys crack me up.

Mr Fry has a until the end of the month to sort out who from a couple dozen chancers can pay the players' wages at the end of the month and you guys are getting all wet about billionaires. Reading threads like this makes me think that Rod Liddle may have had a point after all. Hmmm.

My first reaction is no… But then I watch Chelsea lining up on big European nights with the Champions League music blaring in the background and realise how wrong I am.

The day we become anything remotely like Chelsea will be the day I finally give up supporting Saints. If I had the choice of Saints being more like Chelsea of Eastleigh, I'd chose Eastleigh.

Of course, I'd love a billionaire to come in and secure our future financially, and lead us back to the premiership but I'd be embarressed more than anything else if we started winning (buying) trophies simply because of some new found wealth.

If we ever got to the Champions League (Yeah right!), I'd like to think we were there on merit.

I have it on good authority that LLS is currently tied up in a 'quantative easing' operation for the government.:^o

Not as old fashioned as you might think...Arsenal have only spent something like £8M net on players over the last four years compared to Liverpool and United (£80) and Chelsea on tons more! You just need a f**king good manager and backroom staff.

Would prefer Gandhi But if it meant that we survive long enough to find a good honest backer would have Bin Laden ,Hitler & any other rich @rseh0le from history ( apart from duck hunting red faced city workers called Rupert )
