Getting to the Game - What's the weather really like...??
suewhistle replied to Micky's topic in The Saints
Can I point out that that the fact that you are snowed in because you haven't got the energy to dig your drive out down in the West Country doesn't mean the club are obliged to call the game off, and similarly with other individual circumstances. Where does the club (or authorities) draw the line? I'm reliant on Southern Railways who seem to have a very dodgy service tomorrow, but I shan't be blaming anybody else for that - I accept that SR are always so, with their contract not having any penalties for crop service. Go for it guys and have an extra pint if you're early. I'm also taking a good book and a toothbrush for the journey home.. -
Cheers, keep us updated. Temperatures are on the rise and with this cloud there won't be an overnight re-freezing which is where issues arise.

As of 05.48 this morning the A31 was moving again (Hants Constabulary), and the temperature is rising. Ankle deep isn't 'deep' and unless you're on a significant slope shouldn't prevent vehicle access. It's such variable cover though - there's snow on parts of my cul-de-sac in E Hants and not at the end towards the through road. I've got FWD and snow tyres on so should be OK, but as Whitey says, it's being blocked by others that's the problem. Drivers with powerful RWD cars putting on too much power at once seems a favourite.

Not very happy red plastic seats from what I heard on the radio commentary. Lots missing due to lack of public transport, so I hope the weather improves for Saturday or it'll be the same at St. Mary's.
-
I've got an away match that day and will be freezing my extremities off being substitute on some god-forsaken cold council pitch touchline. Won't even be able to watch it in the warmth of some pub. I'll let you know afterwards if that is a good or a bad thing..

Don't think so. reported on Saints twitter and ended 0-0.

I was there in 76 and didn't see anything untoward, but as as an innocent, smiley fresh faced student at Soton u, trouble didn't come looking for me..:-) When we got back to our coaches the drivers did tell us that they'd had to chase off united fans by threatening them with their chemical fire extinguishers. My poor performance in my final exams that year I sometimes blame on the loss of braincells in the partying aftermath of our win!

FA Cup Qtr Final Saints v Wigan or Man City AWAy

I know a lot of you don't like coaches, and I can't remember having been on one since Bobby Stokes scored a couple at Burnden Park (pretending I was miserable as I exited the ground and the dash to the coaches was fun..) but this is one where the club could put on a free service in view of the circumstances. -
Heisenberg the downed arrogant German pilot, but don't tell him, sadoldgit.

This probably explains it: :-) https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2018/feb/20/david-squires-on-west-brom-mini-break-in-barcelona

Oi! Don't spoil it. :-) I'm curiously tempted to do the trip, but then I might wait to go to the semis on my birthday weekend.. Stay with friends at Harrow, sorted. On the other hand... -

Well, I've never been to Wigan. I've always wanted to see the pier.. -

It's fortunate the Rochdale players didn't have the attitudes so prevalent here - "Oh, it's Spurs so we'll definitely lose".. We'll need a bit of luck and certainly a bit of spirit to beat Citeh, but giving up before we even play shouldn't be on the agenda. -
I think his price is more a reflection of the market and our puss-poor position but as ever you hope that the negativity on this board won't impact wider perceptions. He doesn't set the pulse racing, to be sure, but he's doing some of the basics right and hopefully as he gets up to speed he'll start to make an impact. He took two players with him for Hoedt's opening goal and he made the assist for Tadic when I thought the defender had it covered and didn't think he had the speed to get it, and he also helped the defence from the front with his closing down. Given that West Brom just hoofed it forward unceremoniously there was not much he could achieve there. He hasn't got much time this season to make a difference, but as ever it's the usual suspects who don't even want to give him a chance.

Is that a genuine question? It implies you haven't already come to a conclusion.

Saintsweb more accurate than the BBC - who have us down as playing at home! -
A classic Heisenberg thread, with Batman scurrying in on his tail.

I've wiped the game from my memory, although to be honest I don't think there was a lot to remember. I don't even remember Lemina coming off. But listening to the football on the radio and the complete trashing Porto received puts a little bit of perspective on it all. They're my straws, and I'm grabbing them..

I've never seen spam so clearly signalled!

Wasn't it Bearsy who wrote a review of Fifty Shades of Grey? A public service I would say, as it saved us the waste of time reading such crap ourselves.

Did we really have any intention of buying Promes?

Except that the Russian window is still open.. Anyway, some of you don't appear to understand the concept of budgets and opportunity costs. I'm sure Saints have got £30m, but just because I have £100 in my purse doesn't mean I go out and spend it on a pair of ear-rings I covet when I might want to also spend it on a holiday. -
Yep, most of that although never got as far as a full pension through terminal boredom and early departure, and indisposed to want to leverage through BTL. You forgot company share schemes too.. It's one of the reasons I don't have a problem with inheritance tax, as that seems one of the fairer ways to finance the public services we want without impacting current lives. Cue squawks about hard earned cash, etc, but read Colehillsaint's post again. The really rich don't pay it anyway, and they tend to be really rich because ancestors were mates of William the Conqueror and have clung onto their land, or even increased it by stealing common land through the enclosures. As for immigration.. billhooks. The NHS is under pressure due to spending a lower percentage than other OECD countries with an ageing population, housing because we don't build enough, and wages are lower because the percentage of GDP that goes to wages has gone down in proportion to that going to capital and property. This must be the first thread ever where I agree with CB Fry and don't think he is being an aggravating irritant, and I only wish his normal posts on football were more like it.

Does this comment stating that I think he's a bit of a Tommy Tanker constitute a bite? Previously I just sighed to myself and thought "give it a rest, for goodness sake"..

I'm back for this one. My little wish is that vvd scores an own goal. Normally the announcer discreetly avoids mentioning the name of the opposition player, but in this case imagine the roar if he should mention it.. with a bit of relish. We can all dream, can't we?
