Carabao Cup 2nd Round draw - Cambridge (a)
Doctoroncall replied to Pamplemousse's topic in The Saints
The Beehive Centre has 4hr parking, although not sure if there is a ‘closing time’ for parking. Do you know? -
In a sense, we are, the lack of investment in the Gao years is catching up (not just playing talent but supporting structure). Having been a mid table team, we are now a lower mid table team - Brighton, Palace, Newcastle etc all improving and doing better than us. Thank goodness for Everton and Leeds. But the club should be in the mindset of doing the best, positive attitude and setting some tough goals to achieve, certainly not reflecting on being grateful to make up the numbers. I’m hoping Shields and Selles can help on the playing side, but it’s going to take some time. Perhaps Rasmussen needs to be more involved on the management side?
-
There are clubs where a DoF brings in the players and the head coach coaches and picked the team. Irrespective of that, why pick a back five and the same old players? I wonder what Selles was actually brought in to do? There seems to be no visible impact from him - still he's got plenty of video analysis to give to the players after the Spurs game.
-
So purely on cost comparisons it comes down to an under performance by two league places.

He would be the insane signing we're been waiting for.

Sekou Mara - Official: Signs for Strasbourg
Doctoroncall replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
I think that is the differential these days when the technical ability is similar with the players Saints are looking at. Great attitude to have and there was plenty of camaraderie with his teammates at the recent Toulon tournament as well. This lad will go far. -

Really? How do know some where ‘better’ scouted? And what does it mean? If anything you’d hope they go through the same process in wanting to buy a player for millions of pounds to give themselves as much information to make a decision on. or do you mean, back the manager regardless like we did with Carillo? -
I have a friend that knows Joe and Jess Thwaite, who won in May. It has turned their life into a nightmare. It is easy to see the wow factor and what you'd do with it. Not even doing anything will net them £6m a year! A knighthood or something else in mind?

It looks like we are trying to be one of the youngest squads in the Premier League! Shame there are no points for it.
-
I thought it was player wage bill that had a better correlation to league performance?
-
Certainly from the Spurs fans, but their midfield has improved drastically. I don’t think he is better than we have and when money can be used to improve in other areas it seems to be too much of a risk for £10m, let alone £20m in Levy world.
-
It’s also the ability to be able to do it. Some managers are more one dimensional than others. Some explanation and examples here… https://www.theguardian.com/football/the-set-pieces-blog/2022/jun/23/secret-man-management-football-redknapp-ferguson-mourinho-klopp-benitez

Only if he was wanting to leave. As a team we haven’t got enough quality yet to make this loss be a significant risk.

Not corroborate, in the DT yesterday: Demanding “walking-time allowance” of 12 minutes for a one-minute walk, specialist teams refusing to share vans, and engineers being unable to stray 500 yards from their dedicated patch are among the working practices that union chiefs are determined to defend, they claimed. Anyone heard about these or other practices still around?
-
From the Guardian: Rail workers are relatively well paid, because they have a strong and cohesive union. The average pay of those on strike is £33,000: that includes cleaners at one end of the spectrum and mechanics and engineers at the other. Well-paid drivers belong to another union, Aslef, which is not on strike, but the government includes their pay to inflate the average they claim that railway workers receive.

Contract price and wages will always dictate who is available to us but an interesting dilemma if £15m is worth spending on a championship striker or saving for the following season to double up on a ‘better’ prospect. still £30m, if that is the price is a big risk considering what Borja contributed last season. If he’s that good, I’m not sure why and if Chelsea will sell with Lukaku leaving.

Kick-ins instead of throw-ins: a potential rule change!
Doctoroncall replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
That is also an idea - roll on roll off subs, as well as being able to dribble from a free kick. -
If this falls through then, Slonina maybe worth a shout as first team games are the pull for such players.

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.

Depends what class they sit in surely. initial cost of policy is £120m plus operational costs. The times have stated £12k per person (assuming this is the estimated operational cost). -
England have some very fine players, with a couple of elite ones, but not spread evenly across the squad or in key positions. England have plenty of good right backs, a great striker and some good wingers/wide playmakers. But they are sorely lacking elite players in their spine. From goalkeeper, through to centre halves and central midfield, I can't think of a single England player who would get into another top international team's first XI. It's a crippling limitation that looks like its catching up with Southgate who is also limited in many ways.

It’s good… better than some on here. predicted we need a strong defender.

Beale, who is now the QPR manager had a stint out in Brazil, assistant manager to Ceni at Sau Paulo in what was supposed for a couple of years worldly experience after coaching at Liverpool and Chelsea academies. It only lasted six months. He highly rated Lyanco when he moved to Torino in 2017!
