I would be surprised 'if' anything happens...

Lallana didn't cost the club anything, so there is no cost to balance. The law is on Cortese's side and he can ask what he wants, particularly mid season. If he's swotted in the same way he was by Wenger for a schoolboy in league 1, well be looking at £40m and 50k a cap, plus a Faberge love egg. Bring it on...

He won't go to Manchester United in this window as Manchester United will not be willing to pay the asking price, which is likely to be around the £40m mark. The last time Cortese sold a valued player was in the third division, and that player was a kid with no high level experience -£15 million with strangulation clauses. Lallana is the current captain of a top half Premier League side, 25 approaching peak, and a current England international. Just imagine the terms of any transfer, imagine...

The positives far outweigh the negatives. When this side is fit and clicking we can beat any team in the division. The current hangover is due to the weak squad (as many of us have been pointing out for a year), which in itself is due to our unexpectedly rapid progress over the past three seasons and necessary turnover / non-turnover of playing staff. Two decent windows should sort this, we have much to look forward too. I wonder if 2014 will be the year that the WUMs / Skate plants, finally **** off...

I'd have really liked to have had a good go at the League Cup this year to get some silverware in the trophy cabinet as much as anything else, something we have been deprived of at SFC over the years. When you think that the League Cup is the only trophy that Spurs (for instance) have won in the last 22 seasons it suggests that you should get it when you can! The 'roll' that followed the FA Cup final win in 1976 lasted right up until McMenemy left - part of Saints increasing the fan base has to be wins at Wembley...

Good post which raises some interesting points. If we do lose a top young player before we are 'ready' it will be for a record fee and the fee will be reinvested. There are a lot of people who get hard ons when the likes of United or Chelsea are mentioned, and even the 2008 League Cup winners, Spurs. Saints are perhaps four players away from having a squad that can seriously challenge in the top quarter of the Premier League, rejoice in that and f*ck the uncontrollables (which includes 'cap doffing' and 'auto-reverence' to 'big' clubs)...
