The Dream Team? https://eupoliticalreport.com/how-putin-uses-dragan-solak-to-influence-serbia/ Ras out, Vlad in....

Tbf, he's really only guilty with putting too much trust in you know who

Joe Shields couldn't go directly from City to Chelsea, same with Wilcox to United so, it's not too much of a stretch of imagination that SFC were used as a convenient stepping stone to smooth the way. Shit for continuity at our football club but nice drop of compensation for the business model.

He's from SE London, thought I'd read before he was a Millwall fan so guess that's wrong. Can't say I've seen enough in his managerial career to see him as a desirable appointment and where he started his playing days is a big red flag for me. Maybe nothing in it but wouldn't be my first choice and I can't forget ol' Saggie's stint here, what a fucked up time that proved to be.

Bristol City 3-1 Saints - Match Thread

I’ve just been reminded that 9 years ago today over 7,000 of us were in Milan about to watch us play Inter at the San Siro, today around half of that number will watch us (probably) struggle away in a lower second division tussle……… -
“4/10 want him gone after 9 games into the season, now if we were in the bottom 3 then I can see why but when we are above mid table with 3 wins 3 draws and 3 losses that 40 % shows how many pretentious fans we have and I suspect most don’t even go” Nope, that’s not a quote from a Saints fan, that’s a Swan from one of their boards…and they’re higher in the table than us - but echoes similar thoughts down here. Both sets of fans need a lift and present form reflected in the expected attendance for this, they took the smallest allocation of under 1,200 and sounds like they’ve sold less than a thousand to date. Plenty of home seats available too. The shit 12:30 kick-off and on SKY+ ain’t helping. We’ve got to get going at some point (surely) so 2-1 us.

That was probably my first visit to Ashton Gate, unusually a Friday night match a few days before Christmas. Jumped on a coach outside the Warrens, remember it being cold and snowy - won 1-0, Channon I think.
-
Can see them getting a decent turn-out for this, good game for the U21s and chance to play in front of a big St Mary's crowd. And a nice distraction from the first team performances.

I like TSP, a relatively new listener but I think it's a good panel on there. And agree, I think Alfie House is a reasonable and very good reader of the game. But he may be a 'local journo' but he's not a local lad or even a Saints fan, I think (could be mistaken) he's from and a fan of Bristol City. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just gives him a more rational view of things but he's at least got a genuine interest and input on Southampton FC.

Ticket releases for August and Portsmouth games?

Can the moderators change the title of this thread, there's something about it that's hurting my eyes every time I see it. Pretty much irrelevant now too. -
Sheff Utd 1-2 Saints - Match Thread

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if this luxury coach was really for transporting staff/players complimentaries but like Hull the staff freebies aren’t so popular for the northern trips and so filling it with a “limited number” of lucky fans. Wonder if they’ll be a block of 80-100 empty seats in a prime spot tonight like last time. Hull sold out 3 weeks in advance, fans couldn’t buy tickets so those that missed out must have been understandably narked to see the empties on TV. -

When I said the team should be the same again I was thinking more of a mix of the recent changes that have improved us at Liverpool and yesterday. No doubt one or two will be switched out to rest some if needed there's Jelert, Downes, Robinson, Fraser that can step straight in. Is sold out btw, confirmed on the OS - just under 2,800. Will be interesting to see if there's another batch of empty, what were clearly, 'staff' seats as there was at Hull and other aways this season despite selling out. -
They got their first win yesterday away at Oxford so could now spark a bit of a revival under Wilder. Sounds like they're OK-ish at the back but a bit lightweight up front. Cue Danny Ings returns from...surprise, surprise...injury (was said to be close for Saturday's match) on Tuesday night. Looks like a lot travelling up, we took the full allocation of 2,700, assume it's now sold out as tickets have been unavailable for a few days unless we sent some back. Was mostly sold a week ago so guess it's a sell-out. Team has got to be same again so no repeat of Hull away, time to start putting away our chances.

Ah, hadn't realised that, not quite so good then. -

Update on ticket sales for this batch of northern games - Hull (2,300) and Derby (3,100) both sold out weeks before the games, we took the 2,700 allocation for Liverpool with 350 still available and only 160 left for Sheff Utd (2,700) which will be very close if not a sell-out by the time it comes round. Impressive numbers, 1,200 miles on the road for most and two midweek fixtures. Time for the team to step up. -

We can have up to 7,000 for Blackburn…why couldn’t they be down south 🥴 -
Ticket releases for August and Portsmouth games?

I’m a bit amazed anyone is really surprised that there’s still availability tickets for some our next 4 aways. All up north, 2 midweek and all fairly big allocations, fans doing them all will clock up 1,200 miles on the road over a couple of weeks. Some fans just prefer closer fixtures that inevitably sell out fast but mostly miss out. No rocket science. -
You’re right, the city boundaries stretch out roughly west to east from Redbridge, Millbrook, Lordshill, Bassett, Swaythling, Townhill Park, Midanbury, Harefield, Thornhill, Hightown, Sholing, Woolston to Weston and everything in between to the city centre. There’s your 250k. But every city has a metropolitan area that immediately doubles it. The ‘City of London’ has a population of only 8,500, ‘Central’ London is a couple of million, Greater London (Metropolitan area) around 9m. I think Southampton’s ‘city’ population is expected to rise to around 300k by 2040.
-
I assumed this would certainly be attempted but the OB are going to need some convincing unless they’re bringing the skate coaches in over the Itchen Bridge. Even then they may put measures in place to prevent it. We’ll be getting the same when we go down there in the reverse fixture so…carry on.
-
There is speculation in Ipswich that he could be heading their way. But they do seem to be linked with him every transfer window.
-
I agree, you would expect things to start falling into place September onwards but I'd still have preferred to be playing the skates a one or two weeks later once the new boys had a couple of games under their belts. We'll likely be far more affected with absentees over the international break, if everyone was around then a couple of clear weeks on the training ground would be ideal but by the time the skates come around we'll still be a bit raw, they'll be settled. Not an ideal fixture for newbies. Happy to have my concerns blown out the water.
