Totally agree with this statement, I accept that over the Xmas period when we have 2 or 3 games in a week, changes are inevitable but now the priority is teamwork and the best way to achieve this is through consistent selection ! Key partnerships in defence, midfield and up front can only develop this way IMHO. Clearly there will be some injuries, suspensions and maybe even one or two new signings in the mix but the fundamental challenge now is to find your best side and stick with it ! I often consider that managers think that they are ever so clever and that rotation proves it but when you look at the most successful one right now (Pep G) he seems to do it far less than the others !

I regularly flew over from Brussels to Southampton airport when I worked there, in fact I got to speak to Jelle Van Damme as he was often on the same flight ! Once flew to LHR, hired a car, drove down in driving rain only to find that the evening match v Palace was postponed ! Would be much more difficult nowadays as there are no longer direct flights from the two places !

"Who's to blame" ? The endless list of perceived mistakes serves what purpose ? Surely a thread on "Who do we support" ? and "How can we help to improve things" ? would be more constructive ! Not sure that fitness is the issue when discussing our second half trials and tribulations ! I think it is more to do with lack of confidence, we have lost so many late goals that it gets inside their heads and they start to lose composure ! It's often said that lower teams suffer from this and equally importantly never seem to get the 'rub of the green' as happened on Saturday !

Very sad and also sudden (I was not aware that he was ill). Did so much for racial equality and had to put up with a lot in his time ! RIP

Just a few little facts to consider as the tension mounts : 5 out of the last 6 teams to be relegated changed their manager during the season and the bottom 3 at the moment (Swansea, WBA & Stoke) have already done the same ! Does make you wonder if sacking the manager is really the best solution ????

You make some very good points there, your Lordship ! It is so easy these days to jump on a bandwagon, calling for heads to roll at the slightest dip in form etc.. I accept that we are in a pretty dodgy situation right now but the best way to get out of it is to stay strong, rational and calm because that way you are more likely to make better decisions ! Perhaps we do need some changes as everyone gets rusty after a while but the constant negativity by fans (particularly on message boards) really does suck the life out of you !!

Basically we can't afford them otherwise and the risk factor increases astronomically ! IMO we need a short term fix and this is probably our best opportunity at the moment ! Both these players have something to prove and are keen to play games rather than sitting permanently on the bench so their commitment should not be in question !
