  1. They have Norwich, Brighton, Villa and Burnley in 4 of their next 5 league games. If they don't get much from that they'll be down before we play them.
  2. One week he'll be the new Franco Baresi, the next a Southern League clogger.
  3. We're definitely making a signing tomorrow. My son's friend is joining the U14's in the Academy after a successful trial. He's probably already better than half our other centre backs.
  4. They seemed to struggle to create much after going 1 down and the equaliser was due to a poor bit of play from Villa, who otherwise defended well (I thought Mings had a great game). If we can nick the first goal then sitting back and trying to play on the break is not necessarily a bad tactic because their main threat is balls into the channel to stretch the defence and they won't be able to do that if we don't give them that space. Obviously we could go behind which will force us to attack, allowing them to pick us off with counters. First goal is the key.
  5. Villa 1 up. We beat them easily, therefore the only result I can see on Saturday is us absolutely hammering Leicester. That's how football works, right?

    Yann Valery

He had a personal issue going on around the time he was pronounced as ill by the club before Newcastle away last season and driven straight home. No idea whether his recent absence is related to that or not. Whatever is going on I hope he gets back to fitness soon because although batman thinks he's crap he's actually a good young player who should have a decent career ahead of him.
  7. If any potential suitors watched him on Saturday they'd have run for the hills. Awful performance against a team with barely any threat. He knew it too, he couldn't wait to get off the pitch and down the tunnel while the rest of the team hung around for a couple of minutes and clapped the fans.
  8. I saw him play twice. Once against Eastleigh with the nippers when we were 3-0 down in no time. That team also featured Tommy Forecast. The other game was a pre season match at Havant where he barely touched the ball or moved out of the centre circle. Terrible player, although that obviously doesn't mean he isn't a good coach.
  9. Fair play. Always good to see a Saints team win, whatever one it is.
  10. Pompey, or any ground I haven't been to will do. Would be a nightmare if we get West Brom and Austin scores the winner!

    Injury Watch

Remember Dowie's name being booed when announced on the tannoy. And yes Franny used to get absolutely savaged from some in the stands.
  12. Presumably those who justifiably moan about ticket prices will be flocking back in their droves for this game due to it being so cheap.
  13. Looked at the replies yesterday on twitter to the announcement and the reaction was overwhelmingly negative. He'll probably keep them up but they were hoping for a far more exciting appointment.
  14. We definitely need to get the fans in the ground more onboard because the whole system seems designed to make the viewing experience better for the "I watched the game on a stream and that makes me a proper fan" type of fan. I'm thinking that some handmade VAR signs could take this to the next level. Maybe the club could give out card and crayons to the kids in the Family Stand and run a competition to see who can create the best one. As soon as a decision goes to VAR they could all wave them in the air to see who gets picked out on the big screen? The club could also bring out a range of merch, how about a discount on any shirts printed with VAR on the back instead of a player name? It would look quality if a whole row of middle aged men wearing shirts over a hoodie turned around in the Northam and started pointing to the back of them to get on TV while waiting for a decision.
  15. There's a lot of poor teams this season. Chelsea are 4th and we just comfortably beat them away without much bother. I guess we have to give Liverpool some credit but they aren't the best side to win the league in recent times by any stretch of the imagination.
  16. I prefer Davis' goal in that game which put us 2-1 up. Genuinely believe that if we'd scored a third shortly after it would have finished me off!
  17. Decent performance, did what we had to do to get the win against a team who were poor on the day. Helped by their early injury because they were pretty toothless up front and heavily rely on Grealish for anything vaguely creative. Take him out that team and they would be certainties for relegation. Good support from our fans, the new Ings song caught on nicely. We went a bit quiet for a while before and after they scored but other than that we seemed quite loud. They sang about 3 times in the whole game which made their "Holte End 12th man" sign seem a bit silly. Thought Stephens had his most solid game for a long time, yes he still made a couple of errors but was largely the best player other than Ings. Redmond showed some glimpses of his better form but was occasionally frustrating. Armstrong should play every game if he carries on like that. Added some much needed mobility and drive to the midfield.
  18. Boufal against West Brom is far better than Martina in my opinion. Running from your own half past a few players, a lovely shift and a calm finish is better than a lucky punt from 30 yards any day in my book. I love Osvaldo's goal. Was magnificent. Best moment is Long at Anfield. There's not even any point discussing that one as far as I'm concerned. Runner up in that category is Gabbi at Swansea, then his goal in the final.
  19. I thought the Burley story was common knowledge. It was The Avenue pub if I recall correctly and he was allegedly hammering on the door in a right state around 3am because he couldn't find anywhere open. A lot of the players used to go out in Bournemouth, some stories about Beattie and his drinking pals emerged from that era. At the time it was seen as a much safer place because they were lower league and didn't have a fake rivalry with us. The players were largely left alone to carry on their activities without scrutiny from the fans who think they shouldn't be allowed to enjoy themselves.
  20. I should have gone to the all day gig at the Loft instead. Spent most of my time laughing at how inept we were. I think Ward Prowse's header from 6 yards out when the ball seemed to knock him over was my favourite comedy moment. Special shout outs to Stephens' shot which went for a throw in and Hojbjerg letting the ball roll under his foot when in 20 yards of space in midfield which contributed to their goal. We really are terrible.
  21. Pretty sure most of the stuff he comes out with is a poor attempt at a wind up. As for today's game I can see another tight finish and a late goal swinging the game one way or another. Both teams are poor and will be nervous which leads to mistakes. Hopefully they'll make more than us.
  22. Save £20 by buying a cheaper ticket in Kingsland corner, walking down the concourse to the half way line and sitting there anyway. I used to change ends at half time during the Championship season under Portvleit. Reminded me of going to non-league grounds and I don't just mean the standard of the football at the time.
  23. Come on Salzburg
  24. Cheers.
  25. Tempted to go. Would head along, then nip over to St Mary's before going back to the Loft. Kind of depends what time Heavy Lungs are playing though because they're the main band I want to see.
