Le Tissier,Beattie and Lambert as penalty takers
VectisSaint replied to corsacar saint's topic in The Saints
As a club we are remarkably lucky to have had Le Tissier and Beattie formerly and now Rickie Lambert as our main penalty takers. Think Peachey was our main pen taker, didn't really notice the reference to "20 or so", anyway isn't 37 "20 or so". -

Add David Peach to that list. -
I think using a round red card helps to take the edge off being dismissed.
-
Think you're confusing him with Sven.
-
Think they probably have a point. Said it was at the time, Rickie sort of hinted he thought it was as well on Solent. Bet the Brighton boys are not saying much about the 3 other good pen shouts that weren't given though. What goes around comes around. L

Entwhistle, see Moon (perhaps you forgot)
-
But is he a plastic? How many Saturday games has he attended this season? Another JCL I bet.
-
Thought he was born in Southampton actually, but brought up in Lymington.

So these payments were made over a period of time including while Saggy Chops was "in charge" at Saints. I would hope for Milan & 'arry's sake that none of the payments were actually between November 2004 and December 2005 otherwise there may be more than tax evasion to explain.

I'm not sure Hudders and Man City are quite that good

April 77 away to Blackburn (lost 0-3). Never saw any sign of another Saints supporter all night. Checked with a copper when I got to the ground which end the away supporters were in and he laughed. Spent whole game with my coat covering up my red & white scarf, before a dodgy trip back across the moors in my Cortina GT in the fog & rain to Oldham where I was temporarily working. Kids today.

Why would Bournemouth be bitter about Blackburn or Sheffield United?
-
Unlikely that there is any "done deal" involving Forte. If there was then Saints would not have insisted on him not playing in the FA Cup. Although I don't rate him, that does show that he still is in Adkins plans.
-
Well Forte has an assist to his name tonight.
-
No. Sometimes people need to remember that the team is playing in Division 2 (old money). From 1979 to 1984 at least we were much better than now, only Lallana would hold a candle to the teams of that time.

Big mention on Football Weekly for Saints this week
VectisSaint replied to pap's topic in The Saints
Apparently we only have a small squad, mysterious European owners and we have youth players that have come up through the divisions. Quite honestly that was about as interesting as a very uninteresting thing. Why are people like this allowed to get away with being so-called experts, utter garbage spoken by people who wouldn't know The Championship if it kicked them in the Gulys? One of the blokes only had some idea because he is a West Ham supporter. FFS. Is Richardson the numpty who used to (maybe still does) present the Serie A program? -
No, we should cancel it altogether. Bah humbug!!

After 16 our record was P16 W11 D4 L1 F30 A10. Won 4 and drew 3 of our next 7. We drew a lot of games in 2nd half of season and ended up winning the division on goal average only, even though we were unbeaten in last 7 games. Odd way of running the fixtures back in 1921-22, games were played home and away, e.g. Brighton home on 24 September, away the following Saturday. We even did the double over Aberdare Atletic beating them 1-0 at The Dell on Monday 17th April and 1-0 at The Athletic Ground the following day (and this was of course 30 odd years before floodlights so these must have been afternoon kick-offs, presumably this was over Easter weekend. http://www.southampton-mad.co.uk/footydb/loadtmrs.asp?ssnno=51&teamno=479

Anyone else couldn't get there due to the trains
VectisSaint replied to bender's topic in The Saints
Sounds like you didn't hear the bit where he said "it (the M5 crash) put it all into perspective then. Not callous at all. Sounds like the problems at Euston are still not resolved, power cables damaged at Wembley. Road travel is worse, took me 5 hours to get to Shrewsbury Friday before last, just over 120 miles. Problem that does hack me off is the disruption to rail at the weekends, for engineering work, seems like weekend travellers are classed as 2nd class citizens. I therefore have a round trip down to Southampton tonight to get my daughter back to Uni due to engineering works at Eastleigh. -
Don't buy this at all. Ipswich were in top half (top 3 I think) when we played them, looking through the fixtures from January there are easier away games as well. Looking at it from the other point of view, we have a lot of apparently easier home games since we have already played 2nd and 3rd. Truth is it has little to do with current league poisition it has much more to do with form at the time of playing. Bristol City should be an easy game if you simply look at the table, fact is it will be a tough game based on current form. Are Donny going to be a pushover? Anyway, though this thread was supposed to be about best start for 90 years.

Clearly we have to sign a CB, even if just to get Jos as permanent. Depending on the Seaborne situation I would sign another CB as well, we needed another CB before we lost Seaborne, Jos really is only replacement for him. We also need a striker, self evident from all of the activity in the summer, even if it came to nought. We have got away with it so far, but to imagine going through to May without anyone new would be madness. Personally I would like to see a young, up and coming striker, not necessarily one that we have been linked with so far. I think we are also light in midfield, especially on the flanks. If we are still up there and challenging we should be thinking about the future and starting to build for life in the PL.

Reckon we're nearly safe from relegation

Anyone have any idea who the Trialist was that played for the U21s today? Surely there must be an ITK still on this forum?
-
From the initial comments in the link sounds to me like he would prefer to stay at Saints, clearly not impressed with Lennon and current set up. Clearly though he has to say he would be OK going back, otherwise if NA doesn;t want him he is out in the cold again. I would be surprised if he is not still with us in February, unless we have someone else even better already lined up.

Bloody hell, never seen Bristol Rovers referred to as a "top flight foreign team" before LOL
