  1. Quite right, people are getting het up about what players are eating and dringking immediately after or even during a game. This is not an issue. Its what they do during the build up to the game that is important. After a game its a case of replenishment. I attended an FA conference a couple of years back where the top FA dietician for the England youth teams stated categorically that the best drink during a game was Coke. I was somewhat taken aback, the only thing is it should be taken 50/50 with water. Evidently better than any of these so called high performance. Jaffa cakes also are one of the best sources of energy during half-time etc. I suspect the reason why the players are so eager to scoff pizza etc straight after a match is because it is the only time they are allowed to do so. Good diet is great but it can also be very boring.
  2. Don't have too much of a problem with them eating pizzas etc AFTER a game, jaffa cakes also during game (half time) are good. The issue is what they eat the rest of the week leading up to the game, and especially the day before/morning of a match - that is the important time. I do wonder about ANYONE eating KFC though, thats just plain nasty, cheap and low quality like MacDonalds. Went off KFC may years ago when I saw a notice scrawled on a toliet door in the factory where I worked - "Kentucky Fried Wombat - Its toenail picking good"
  3. And a points deduction would hurt us in what way? We are going down so whether we have 30 points or 0 points makes no difference.
  4. You can't polish a turd. At least Wotte The **** can't... It might be better to give them the whole week off, that way they won't learn any more from this embarrassing excuse for a coach.
  5. I don't think he'll get the chance, we all know Sir Alex is going to be our manager next season. Coppell to Saints, some people must be busy smoking something if they think this could happen...
  6. Its got nothing to do with someone with a wad. Someone with some sense, both football and financial, would make a difference. It is Lowe's mad experiments that have put us where we are, bringing in hopeless 3rd rate Dutch coaches who have no understanding of the CCC or even of football as far as I can see. Lowe is a failure both financially and from a football perspective he is no more qualified to run a plc or fc than most of the people are who run our banks.
  7. In that case we probably deserved 3 points. But we got no points because we lost. AFAIK at the end of the season the Football League do not review all of the games and award bonus points to teams who deserved to draw or win. Its nice to know we deserved more, but in the end its totally meaningless. We lost, we have lost far too many, we can't score, we have another manager who doesn't know what he is doing, we are going down.
  8. I'll be amazed if we even get 9 points from 14 with Wotte The **** in charge...
  9. If the dumb****er really believes this then why did he pick him in the first place? Wotte is the point of replacing JP with a total asshole? The guy is a fecking joke, at least JP was likeable, whereas this **** is just plain stupid.
  10. Please no Hermans Hermits songs, please...
  11. Amongst the other reasons would be the moon being made of blue cheese I suppose. How on earth (or on the moon) can anyone rationally come to such a conclusion?
  12. Tom Dunford. Comes from Wootton on the Isle of Wight, came through the ranks at Cowes. Has just signed a 2 year contract. There was a piece about him in the IW County Press last week: http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/tom-signs-for-saints-24469.aspx Hope he does well, being from my home village
  13. If as alleged anyone had a pop at Saga then that is well out of order, we should be supporting the guy who is our best (only) hope of getting out of the more. For those who had a pop at McG and BWP I do not have this sense of outrage. By the way someone above asked whether manure players regularly go out on the lash. I suspect you will find they do, Mr Rooney is hardly a paragon ov virtue. It is also clear that Liverpool players also are not complete Saints, ask mr gerrard about his nights out, whether on the lash or not, and whether behaving in such a way as to potentially impact his profession is really a good idea. the only difference with both these examples are that these 2 teams are top of the Prem, if we were top of the CCC would we have these issues, probably not. Sadly the idea that footballers are professional athletes and should avoid alcohol/tobacco/late nights etc is so far from reality as to be laughable, people in other sports have accepted that this sacrifice needs to be made, but generally footy players have yet to wake up to this need. Still I agree it must be tough for young kids when they have no role model, can't say I was a saint when I was their age either, but then I was also no athlete
  14. AFAIK there are no requirements for particular coaching certificates in the Fotball League, that is or at least was a Premier League only rule. It would only become a problem when Tiss got us promoted
  15. I bet Lowe would crap himself, if it happened. This would add even more dislike of Lowe if the man he dismissed then saved our bitter rivals from the relagation we all hope they will suffer.
  16. Think Ferguson is a bit old to be called the hottest young managerial prospect in England. As Wales is not in England Martinez is also not a candidate.
  17. Thanks Duncan, I'll let the person know that there may be a possibility. She was not too precise with the dates. Cheers

Suppose there's no chance Barclays will wipe off our debt by setting it against their obscene profit for the last financial year. Would be a drop in the Solent.
  19. Bit like Saints then Saw the Specials at Chippenham Olympiad in 2005 (concert for the Tsunami), not sure they would draw more than a few hundred (not a Specials fan, but enjoyed the night). Same night tickets for Chelski v Saints raised £3000 in a charity auction, those were the days Maybe we could get Coldplay to perform for free, I'm sure Will Champion would be up for it.
  20. Good idea, have done so.
  21. I got a message on a mailing list I am on (not football related) asking if anyone knew about a young footballer dying on the pitch during a Southampton match? The date would be sometime in the period between the wars - I think. The name could be Dyer, Millward or Nicklin surname. I assume the person asking is sure it was a Saints player (i.e. not opposition). I thought I'd try and help this person solve this puzzle. Does nayone here (perhaps amongst the more long in the tooth supporters like me) have any recollection of such an event? Maybe Fitzhugh Fella might know. I can see all the jokes now about players dying on the pitch every week etc etc, especially with the name Dyer mentioned but this is a serious request for info.
  22. +1 We are already a laughing stock, we don't need Holloway the Clown to make things even worse. I want Wotte out, but Holloway would be too much for me to stomach. There are many, much better options out there champing at the bit for a job like Saints even with a lunatic chairman (or two). Should add, what has he ever achieved. I read someone on here slagging off Sturrock earlier, the man with 4 promotions (nearly 5) to his name in the lower leagues. Holloway has only ever achieved promotion once (ironically as runners up to Argyle that Sturrock had guided almost to the championship) and been relegated twice. Even Lowe has not achieved that ambitio just yet. Holloway: Clown and failure.
  23. Why did you leave out Reading? They have succeeded in this division twice, and hardly fit the description above. Not saying I disagree, but there is more than one way to skin a cat. But playing lightweight tippy tappy football directed by a totally inexperienced 3rd rate coach (or 4th rate if you include JP) is not going to give puss to much to worry about.
  24. Bad appointment at Saints, not suited for the Prem or prima donna players. But good manager at CCC/League 1/League 2 level as he has proven time and again. 4 promotions with 4 different clubs, plus an almost promotion with Argyle when we nicked him, proves what a good manager he is at the appropriate level. So he is having a poor season at Argyle this season, every manager will have a spell when they are less effective than they have been before (after all George Burley was allegedly once a good manager before he joined us). There are few managers in the Football League that boast a success rate equal to Luggy.
  25. Sorry Jonny, but if you think 12 points will keep us up, then you will hve a shock. 22 points will get us to 50. Last season Leicester got 52 points and went down. I think 50 will be enough this season, but 22 points from 15 games given our form so far is a stretch goal I'm afraid.
