They say the sign of a good team is how they respond to a defeat. So let's see how we respond. Norwich will fancy their chances. Fasten your seat belts - this could be a bumpy ride.

It's a flexible 4-5-1 that becomes 4-3-3 when we are attacking, 4-5-1 when defending or stifling. It serves us well. We have sometimes had to go for goals in the second half and then putting on an extra forward has focused us on attack. But I like to see us with a defensive midfielder (Wotton) protecting the back 4, Hammond and Schneiderlin in the central midfield, with Papa and Lallana supporting Lambo and/or supporting the central midfielders.

Burley Sacked as Scotland Manager
the saint in winchester replied to the saint in winchester's topic in The Saints
As the OP, I feel it's of interest to us, as he is a recent manager of this club. However, if the Mods move it to the Lounge or simply kill it, que sera sera, whatever will be will be, we're going to Wembley ... :-) -
see headline. Personally, I think he's been shabbily treated. Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. All the best, GB.

Guys, which of the pubs County Arms (nr hospital) The Exchange O'Neills The Bakers Arms FILO T'other one in Wales St would let me bring my 14 yo in with me? The Stanmore were accommodating, but they are now razed to the ground.

We - as a team - are better playing 4-5-1 for an hour, then bringing Connolly on for whoever for the final 30. As to who, depends on individual performances.

Saints Vs Brighton - Post Match Discussion
the saint in winchester replied to Ponty's topic in The Saints
Yeah, I was alo critical of our performance on Wednesday ... but put that down to the awful weather at the time. We've dipped in our performance, and we need AP and the coaches to get them firing on all cylinders again. -

I agree! We do well to contain the opposition with 4-5-1 then press home advantage in the final 30 mins when we go 4-4-2 with extra front man. Why have we changed and decided to go 4-4-2 from the off? -
JPT,Semi finals... Norwich at home
the saint in winchester replied to saint lard's topic in The Saints
Yeah that my thought too. If we have to play Norwich, then better we play them in a one-off at home. And there is now a good chance we could get Hereford after that. So to be brief +1 -
Yes, it's called USING the technology available. With all games filmed, it would only take a second for a 4th official with the technology to tell the ref (all miked up) if there was an offside or not. It would end defenders stood still appealing, and all would play on. Sometimes it would be ruled out. Not saying get rid of linesmen, just that they should have the authority to refer it to the 4th official in marginal cases .... just like cricket umpires.

I must admit I was never sure what he did. Cortese is fully involved day to day, so I think this a natural evolution. But I know nothing of his job spec and what he did for the club.
-
Yeah, I noticed that first half, and was glad to see he was 'back to black' for the second half. Didn't improve his performance though. Charlton could see they could get away with muggings and GBH, so it got worse.

Saints to bid for Rooney
the saint in winchester replied to thorpie the sinner's topic in The Saints
I can't see we need another striker, with Saga and Patta sat around. But who knows? (ok, Pardew knows!) I'm sure the half mil transfer fee can be recouped with sales of the shirt with Rooney on the back! -
You're having a laugh? Lallana was awful. No-one was great, but the weather conditions probably account for that. Charlton were pretty weak too. (yes, I was there - and just finished drying my hair!)
-
Yeah, I also thought he should be above that level. I guess it's all about games under the belt.
-
Yeah, a gasp went up (around me in the Itchen - or was it just me gasping!) when it was announced he was playing. We neednt have worried - he didn't have a lot to do, and what he did he did well. His distribution is excellent - as NickG says his throwing - and his kicking out - and we're bearing down on goal. The wingers need to get more aware of that and get running sooner!

Darren Ferguson Sacked What a Farce
the saint in winchester replied to Under Weststand's topic in The Lounge
I was amazed they are showing him the door. He has worked wonders and was expecting a Prem club to come in for him while his star was rising! -
Don't mess with Rickie's sister!
the saint in winchester replied to the saint in winchester's topic in The Saints
Heck, I was going to offer you a lift tonight (as we're from the same postcode) but I wouldn't feel safe with you leering at women when we stop at the lights. :-) -
That was my thought too. Might as well call off the Northern Section games now, and all agree that LEEDS will be in the final, absolutely guaranteed. The Southern Section is much tougher. (sadly)

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/football/early-doors/article/209917/ ok, it isn't Rickie's sister really :-)

Rovers (2) Vs Saints (3) Post match chat
the saint in winchester replied to saint lard's topic in The Saints
What's our thinking on Gobern? Supposedly he wanted to stay at MK Dons with his brother? Is his head right? Should we leave him out? Move him on? Or just give him some time to get his head right? Discuss :-) -
I think you'll find there'll be a change of attitude from a few young players now. We've seen so many go to - at best, sit on the subs bench; at worst, be loaned out to lower level clubs.
-
Haha, good one. Yeah I was confused too. He lives in Southampton but wants to watch it at a pub in Bristol. Huh? :-)
