Our best 3 signings since returning to the premier league
doggface replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
But the recent ****e we have had since is why we are doing so poorly. Both in players and management -
Because most people do not want to accept they were wrong. In hindsight, he did ok with the ****e he had to work with. It was hard to accept our points drop off, that we had really become so average. The performances across the last 2 seasons prove, without doubt that the squad has been weakend massively.

perfect description

Because it’s hard to fit either Mauricio or Pellegrino in a song.
-
Whole club sleep walking to relegation as we have been all season. Only hope is the other sides perform worse than us, which I think is unlikely. Club does not want to win matches. Really feel for the season ticket holders putting up with that bile for 2 seasons.

Saints FC Podcast - Daily Telegraph's Jeremy Wilson
doggface replied to twoandahalfstuds's topic in The Saints
Thanks for the latest podcast. Interesting to hear from Jeremy Wilson after reading his articles for so long. He comes across well, though a little too "on the fence" regarding our current struggles when assessing what has gone wrong. I guess he wouldn't want to disrupt his "exclusive" Jordan Sibley fed P.R puff pieces. Just listened to the Dean Hammond podcast which is the best one I have heard and a must listen for any Saints fan. When you look at certain players going through the motions these days it is nice to be reminded that some footballers actually do care about the club. Dean is the best guest yet. -
Decent OP. I agree with vast majority of the post. In summary, a very average squad but should not be in the bottom 3. I think an on form Tadic has proven he is a top 8 player if he is played on the left, however he is missing Pelle badly. I don't like the way he throws himself around & he will never be a quality #10 as he cannot shoot from distance. I actually think in hindsight that Puel did a decent job with last seasons limited squad. Yes the football was spectacularly dull at home, but points wise I think that is about our level baring in mind he didn't have VVD or Austin for much of the season. I wanted him out ultimately as I struggled to accept the drop off in points from under Koeman. I truly failed to recognize how average this squad is, nearly 2 seasons of poor results is not a fluke. Our model is no longer working IMO, mainly due to poor recruitment across the club.

As much as I love the FA Cup, staying in the premier league is vital so this game to me is essentially dead rubber. Pellegrino describes this as a cup final.....beggars belief. I would rotate in this one - certainly with the players who are most crucial to our relegation battle who we cannot afford to be injured. Rest Lemina, both fullbacks IMO.

Yes a SFC fan I think and was reported to have been interviewed. Good reputation at Blackburn but obviously not worked out at WBA.

We do well against the worst side in the division

Not buying success, but selling it.

[quote I hate to say it, but my initial feeling of wanting Puel out was wrong. I agree with the poster above. I initially felt that the huge points drop-off was unacceptable last season. However bearing in mind this seasons efforts combined with last season, I agree that he did a good job with a ****ing average squad. Despite the huge points drop-off, to get this lot through so many games, finish 8th & a cup great cup run was a good job. Pellegrino has managed to turn a bang average team into one of (if not THE) worst team in the league. The fact is the players are nowhere near as good as they or most fans, think they are. We have had some good players pass through SFC the last few years and as a fan I have become accustomed to watching good players playing mostly good football & having good managers. Now we have neither. Let's not forget Puel lost Mane, Pelle & Wanyama who were fantastic buys and in the main big players for us. Les & Ross purchased inadequate replacements for these players in preseason so it's hardly surprising we hardly scored any goals. That trend has continued this year so you have to look at the players left and say they are just not good enough. This team is the worst we have had since promotion, with the exception of Ryan Bertrand. Every other position that I can think of has been weakened. We used to replace well, this is no longer the case and hardly a surprise we are no longer challenging the top 6. It is impossible with this squad. I think what killed Puel with most fans was high expectations based on previous decent SFC teams (understandable) & a serious lack of goals at home in the last few months. However is it any wonder when we sold goals in Mane & Pelle & did not replace well? Puel did not have the talent that Pochettino or Koeman had at there disposal and I challenge anyone to argue that. Puel got a bang Average team bang average! Puel now has a much better team at Leicester especially going forward and it shows. He is an average European manager and dull as dishwater to listen too, no better no worse IMO. He did have a gameplan at least and though stubborn, did show some flexibility. Where we find ourselves now is totally on Les Reed IMO and to a lesser extent Ross Wilson. If the board wake up and smell the roses & the players manage to scrape to safety under a new manager, serious surgery needs to be made to the 1st team IMO irrespective of the manager. As for Puel, You can't polish a turd.

Bingo. These constant draws are keeping the clown in a job (somehow). Single points are not going to keep us up, football is about winning FFS. 4 wins in PL & only 1 convincing is horrific. After our car crash window, I am convinced getting rid of this clown is our only hope. If that means losing to WBA, then so be it for the greater good. Can't forget the players though who have been with a few exceptions, **** all season. Time to pull your fingers out of your arseholes boys! The players are much better than this, but clearly not as good as they think they are. This is the worst team we have had since we were promoted - no doubt. Thanks Les.

Quite simply, the biggest match of the season. Time for this underperforming group to show up. Nothing less than 3 points will do. Win and huge shot in the arm for our (completely preventable) relegation battle, gives a chance to scrape out of it. Defeat and surely, surely our incompetent board will finally put Pellegrino out of his misery and prey for a Swansea like revival from a new man. Would be our only hope. However, horrible nagging feeling (again) that it will be yet another dull, frustrating draw with high possession and no penetration. I expect to see a group of overpaid, underperforming prima-donnas being played out of position offensively and putting in 70% effort. I expect to see us go a goal up and then sit back for a least 45 minutes, then concede a headed goal and fail to score again. I expect to see a couple of bizarre subs, 20 minutes too late, run around like headless chickens and do **** all. I expect to see a skinny lapdog looking like a rabbit in the headlights during the game and then roll out at fulltime to tell us we controlled the game, unlucky not to win and that our level is improving every week. I expect our board to do **** all about it having sold our best player for a world record fee and blamed him for all our performances this year, having brought in only a slow, non-goal scoring mate of a hopeless puppet manager for a ridiculous fee. (& possibly an inadequate last minute panic loan). Smacks to me of the beginning of an asset stripping exercise preparing the club financially for relegation. I expect a Jeremy Wilson puff-piece tomorrow blaming VVD, Walcott & the Russians. I expect Ralph to roll out tomorrow and tell us we did everything we could this window to improve our soccerball team and indirectly blame Liverpool, VVD, Walcott & the Russians and tell us we are a small club. He will then recite the club motto, **** off to Canada to coach an under 10's hockey tournament and be back in the summer. Meanwhile we have a dodgy Chinese new owner who knows **** all about football, understandably putting trust in this board who have been sound historically but have ****ed up every big decision in the last year and a half. Unfortunately, he probably does not have a ****ing clue what to do about it. Hope I am wildly wrong on all counts and Jesus I hope I am.

What an absolute ****ing joke of a window.

I like the red card idea like the Branfoot days. I would contribute to any fund.

Last season saw a big regression, whether that ****wit wreck it ralph believes it or not. Just look at the points total. This season has been an utter ****ing car crash. I'm not sure if the cherry on top is the patronising, question-dodging, morale busting "interview" or tonight's result. I genuinely think a protest should be organised to apply pressure on the new owner to sack these bunch of clueless ****s. If the manager isn't sacked and we do not bring in 2-3 quality attackers we are down. Right now it seems neither will happen so we have to make some noise or we are ****ed....

What a load of ********
-
Can totally see this happening if he takes a realistic pay cut. Could be a great signing, but totally out of favour at arsenal. Doing some research sounds like he has seriously regressed over the last few months.
-
Never been so apathetic towards saints goals. clown must leave and a number of players need to be cleared out or at least benched for a long time. so negative
-
Just **** off you odious turd, you make this place fun for no one

Home banker unfortunately 3-0. Had seen the 1st signs of improvement performance and commitment wise from Everton onwards, however results still poor and pathetic showing Wednesday. Sticking to my predication he will be gone over the xmas period.
