Saints U23s v Chelsea U23s. Tonight @ 7pm @ St. Mary's
angelman replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
JayRod seems so out of sorts. With Charlie Austin coming back soon, I would be surprised if he even makes the bench as he must surely be behind Gabb, Long and Austin. You always hope that injuries such as his can be overcome and former glories regained. -
Why can't it be about money?? We supposedly offered to up his wages to £70k a week Saints = 18 months @ £70k a week = £5.460m WHU = 30 months @ £65k a week = £8.450m Would you take the chance that after 18 months you would be offered another contract at the same level? Would you be prepared to risk £3m? He openly admitted that he was doing the best for him/his family (as obviously he can't possibly get any other form of work when he hangs up his boots).

Not sure about others, but...... When I see all over the news that I submitted a transfer request to leave the club - that's disappointing. .....and ..... I spoke to the club and said there could be possibilities [to move] and I would like the club to consider it. .....lead me to think that there is a bit of semantics going on. Didn't write a letter. Maybe not, but he came back from EC16 and said that he wanted SFC to consider offers for him (ie he was happy enough to move) which he didn't get. He then says West Ham came back in in January. My conscious is very clear. I'm sure one can convince oneself of anything, especially when a couple of million are at stake. It's easy to forget about the contract extension one signed a few short months before. Money and conscience (conscious FFS!!!) aren't easy bed fellows.

GS: You had a great European Championships and came back to Southampton - what happened next? JF: I spoke to the club and said there could be possibilities [to move] and I would like the club to consider it. GS: Seven years with the club shows you were a good servant. Did the club not get that? If someone is coming to you offering a better deal, then Southampton had to understand that you was in demand. ================= So I guess that Souness doesn't think a contract is worth the paper it is written on, and the club should just bend over, drop its draws and beg for a good ramming on the whims of the players. Just covering old ground (because it irks me a little), but I wonder how this sits with Fonte “I’m obviously very pleased and very happy. I want to thank the manager, Les Reed, Ralph [Krueger], Katharina [Liebherr] – all of the staff and all of the board – for showing their trust and belief in me. I am extremely happy that they are giving me this opportunity to keep being in this great club, and I hope I can give back with good performances and by helping the club move forward. This is where I feel happy and where I’ve been very successful, so this is where I want to be and where I want to win.” SFC's position didn't change, although we supposedly offered to up his wages but would not extend it past 18 months that was remaining. ================= Anyway, to JBS's point, to me, and I am but a supporter who sits in the stands, I felt that this was probably his last season. I presume the club thought a little differently as they were prepared to up his wages for 18 months, so guess that means that they thought he could do a job next season as well. Winning EC16 rather deflected the fact that time was catching up with him. So while I think he could still have done a job for us this season, the fact that he left in January, a few months early, isn't really a problem albeit the obvious problem it caused with VVD being off games. I look at what it is costing WHU and it is about £120k a week, or over £15.5m for the length of contract!! It will be interesting to see how he does against Hazard tonight.

I love the.... I arrived in the Premier League late at 29 years old - you still have to live 50 years after football. You do your best for yourself and your family. You've got to fight for what you believe. I respected the club, but they weren't willing to find an agreement and reach a compromise.. Is he not able to get another job after he retires from football?? This attitude of the modern player really annoys me. Anyway, this not willing to find an agreement and reach a compromise - why should the club do so? He only signed a new contract 7 months earlier FFS. It was good enough then. And Souness, **** me what questions to ask!!

Impressive nerdery my little grapefruit.

With this Redmond for England, who would he replace? I don't watch England too much so no idea who is in the team. Having said that I do know Sterling is on the right, and is a similar type player who I can't imagine Redmond shifting.

Well done.

Suspect he'll be wheeled out on Monday for the U23s

So every single team is now going to hit him hard early on. If they don't get a yellow card first time, they'll likely carry on until they do. A price worth paying to take him out of the game.

Still waiting for us all to break out into song when they play the "Southampton Song" (or whatever it is called) at the beginning of a game!!!

earlier this week.

For too long we have been crossing balls into the box and no one was there. Austin helped solve that, but Gabb has taken it a step further from what little we have seen so far. It's going to be a great disappointment when he goes a game without scoring!!

From where I was sat in Tier 5, and with my poor eye sight, I had no problems what so ever in distinguishing the teams. As for both sets of fans in red and white, I'm sorry, but from my vantage point, Manc seemed to be in the standard uniform of the football supporter (ie black) while we were red & white. From block 528, the contrast of where our supporters finished and their's began, was very clear and easy to define. As for Man U being the home team, nothing to do with who qualified first.

Don't understand why anyone cares what other people think, least of all the Skates. If Neville thinks it looks like a Celine Dion concert, then that's his wont and I really am not going to lose any sleep over that.

Is it any worse than the Scousers singing "Liverpoool, Liverpoool" and YNWA?

When do you think Utd and arsenal matches be rescheduled?
angelman replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
Isn't Arsenal on April 11th? -
I had a row of about 20 near me in 528.
