One hampton is much the same as another hampton, just some are bigger than others.

Do people really not understand how things work?? If you are a big club, you can afford the big transfers for people who have proven themselves. For everyone else, it is a risk. Most are adequate. Some are exceptional. Some don't work out. The price we pay comes with a risk attached. van Dijk is a classic case of this. No one was really prepared to pay £13m on what I presume must have been considered to be a risky purchase. We take that risk. We get the reward when a bigger club sees that it works. Its really not rocket science. Then there is Guido. We shouldn't have backed the manager. He should have been sacked and we should have used the £20m to pay off his contract.

Who has the bigger ground? We do. They don't have one.

Summer 2018 - Other teams Manager/transfer business

For once I looked at one of your messages Glasgow, as you are on my ignore list. Wish I hadn't, because it was complete and utter ballocks. Jealousy?? WTF are you on about? I have about as much interest in Liverpool as I do Portsmouth, ie none. If I read the sports section, I do not want to read story after story after story about Liverpool. An article here or there - fine. And if this blanket coverage hadn't been going on for years, then I might not feel the way I do. But jealousy/envy - nah. Not one little bit I'm afraid. -
Dodd, I always say that the current season is my last, but the force is strong and draws me back in. I really hate football as a business. Love Saints. ****ing hate Liverpool and the way the press suck up to them the whole time. It just bores the **** out of me.

Eden Hazard is more technical than him, and shows it on the pitch during every PL game. If Boufal means that he needs more time to be "happy", then maybe he is right that Spain will allow him that. But Hazard is a happy player....and a strong one.

There seems to be 1 team in PL this year. I am already hugely bored by the coverage and as per usual the constant fawning puts me off PL as a whole. -
St Michael, it seems that the modern way of things in the PL is that a player already has to be at their peak. No room for coaching. No time. Time is money, and you can't afford that in PL.

I've said it before, but I think that the club panicked and signed people up to long and generous contracts to try and get them to stay. It didn't work with the players we wanted to keep, but worked with the players no one was interested in. But....I love the fickleness of it all. A couple of years ago we were the best run club in the world, a model to emulate, etc etc etc and now we are a shambles. A week is a long time in politics, and I guess it is in football as well.

Guys, look on the bright side. A defeat often tells you more than a scraped victory. Hughes isn't a mug and I am sure will have taken a lot out of that.

Video player is shoit and needs to be seriously overhauled. Very poor and surprised OS is happy to continue with it.

First off, we are a small/medium sized provincial club. We are bidding for players that are going to show potential. We are not signing proven superstars as they go for twice what we pay. We also have to "choose" from players that the big boys, and others that are more attractive than us, have over looked for one reason or another. van Dijk is quite a good example, and one that worked. The big boys knew about him but didn't want to take the chance. Same with Mané. All our signings are therefore a risk. Boufal, we all know that he is phenomenally talented. We all know that he has attitude. I think it could have been a good signing, just didn't quite work out. Carillo. Well we know that was to back the manager. V. poor choice. Expensive mistake. I guess maybe if it had worked, then it would have saved shelling out on sacking the manager. A gamble that failed. Forster. Somewhat revisionist. Did great for the first 2 season. Clasie. He is a good player, as evidenced by Feyenoord wanting him back. Too small for the PL?? Not enough game time? Sure, it didn't work. Osvaldo. Buying strikers is notoriously difficult. Again an attitude came with him, one that we couldn't conquer. Maybe we should have seen that, learned a lesson with Boufal. Gaston. Well I view this differently from others. When we got promoted, we needed to make a "big" signing to show our intent to make ourselves attractive to others. A lot of signings succeed or fail by small margins. Some by rather larger. Whatever you say about Boufal, he was the one player over the past 18 months who genuinely I found interesting to watch.

Nah. Redmond is here to stay. He will come good this season (I hope!!)

They think a title challenge is on every year, and now that they have spunked £160m on top of van Dijk, they think that they are going to win the Champions League as well. -
Paid £16m, for a 5 year contract. 3 years remaining, so call it £10m.
-
Like other, just got an email saying order processed and awaiting courier. Order at 2.45pm Sunday with a delivery time of 4-5 working days. Pretty poor by Sports Direct TBH. Maybe it will arrive within another 4-5 working days., who knows?

They've taken payment so the contract is in place.

It certainly is. It's nothing more than an exercise in who can spend the most. Really puts me off the sport/game/business. -

This, if true, is getting really f'ing silly now. I hope the whole house of cards comes crashing down. I really hate this side of football. In fact, other than Saints, I pretty much am disinterested in football. -
If he couldn't get in to a poor (at that stage) West Ham side, who really is going to want him?
-
The mess was that the board went on a mass contract extension programme, along with much increased wages. TBH that's fairly pointless as the ones that we didn't want to go, still went even with their long contracts, leaving behind those that we might not want. It is silly that we have currently got 3 first choice keepers.
