Blimey. Might have signed a CB and DM in the form of one player?
-
OMG. He’d be perfect. So, I assume we aren’t interested! :-(

The example given in the Cambridge dictionary is “how do you reconcile your belief in science with your religious convictions?” The case for me (although not yet used in a dictionary!) is “how can you reconcile your belief that Saints need a new centre back as a high priority with your view that it wouldn’t be too bad a transfer window if we didn’t sign one?” HTH

More reconciled than resigned. I can see the case that we can’t improve the CB position without both outgoings and a ton of money. I dimly remember WGS saying after we got to the Cup final that to improve the squad would require huge expenditure in any given position. Implication was we were at 7/10 everywhere and it would cost a ton to get to an 8. Little bit similar now (although closer to 6/10), with the exception of no depth in centre midfield, which is a quick and relatively cheap fix.

Good news on Redmond, but does feel like a PR distraction on deadline day. Like one or two others, I’m more worried about a DM than a CB now. I’m reconciled to not getting in a £20m CB to bolster the defence. I guess we limp on with what we have. But in midfield, if say Romeu gets suspended and Hojbjerg injured, we have a huge hole, assuming Lemina is gone. I’ve lowered my sights to hoping for a c£5m DM just for cover.

heck, I'm a big fan of Boufal. I want him re-integrated, but drop redmond?!

Glad to see this discussed. I utterly love our nickname, use it to generally describe us and think it has a certain cache, partly because it isn't just a derivative of our name. What I loathe is "So'ton" or "S'ton" being used as an abbreviation. One of the reasons our nickname works is that "Southampton" is too long a name for some headlines or graphics, but we should be trying to get the wider media to use Saints not apostrophes.

Sam Gallagher - Joins Blackburn: Official
SaintBobby replied to Sergei Gotsmanov's topic in The Saints
I remember him scoring a great winning goal at St Mary’s when we beat Blackburn to win a youth trophy. Wish him every success, shame it never quite worked out as well as it might have done at Saints, but he has a good career ahead of him, I’d say -
I like him, but he's not really in my starting XI. That may be a problem if he's not in RH's either.

Police Investigations into historical interference with young players
SaintBobby replied to spyinthesky's topic in The Saints
God, what a vile pathetic cretin you are. You sad, pitiful little man. -
He may be a Poundland Fabrice Fernandes, but then Sadio Mane is a League One player. So, could work out for us....

Yep, it is just a hunch. It seems to me - as a very early guess - that the teams coming up maybe look better equipped than those going down. Also, looking at the 17 staying up, I can’t really name any that I’m super-confident we will finish ahead of.
-
Not next season. 8-10 probably. Obviously, 38 draws might be enough. But I doubt that next season, could be nearer 40 than 30 to stay up.
-
Going to be tougher next year with the promoted teams. Had we won at home to Cardiff and Man Utd not collapsed on the final day, we could have stayed with 5 wins and 13 draws, or six wins and 10 draws. That's how terrible the bottom three were. Next season, on the face of it, there are no ultra-weak teams - expect maybe Sheff Utd? Could be a lot more to stay up next season, I'd take 15th/16th if offered right now, I think.
-
In general, or just because our performance was 18 certificate sh1te?
-
Glad I put £50 on West Ham when I saw the line up
-
Hmmm. I'd have gone for 5-3-2, Ryan Bertrand looks fine as the left-sided centre back.
-
Pretty ropey line up Forster, Mo and Armstrong all start. As does Lemina. Valery back.
-
Nice. Might even try and go to the final.
-
Is this first leg or one off? And if we win, who do we play next?
-
Am just happy this isn't a "must win" game!
-
Yeah, am not sure how MotD count that tbh? Two points lost and one gained, so a net of -1?
-
Do you mean Scarborough or Stockport? I seem to remember us drawing away at Stockport, taking them back to the Dell, getting an early MLT goal and then contriving to lose 2-1. Dave Jones was their manager at the time and Paul Jones their goalkeeper, I think.
