Now, I know this will never happen. Too many connotations and factors make this idea practically possible but out of interest, I would love to know how everyone on here would feel about something like this, if it was a viable and real alternative or option. For example, what if both fans from both sides 'accepted' this? Saints' and Pompey's collective debt was written off/paid off for whatever reasons on the basis that we merge. And so, Solent United is formed. What if a new ground was built between the cities, where would it be? How many should it hold intially? What is the potential for a 'superclub' to rival the Premier Leagues biggest? Would players want to play and live in this part of the UK as opposed to the North? Just how much potential would this club realistically? What would the home and away kits be? Would the youth system have a bigger and better pool of players to choose from in the surrounding areas? Now, I would love a summary or hypothetical response from anyone who has wondered this before? Yes, it's practically impossible for this to happen but what if it wasn't - and it happened? Solent United ... what is their potential? I'm curious to see what other people think.... I'll begin. I suppose Fareham way would be the obvious candidate for a new ground, with links both ways close to the motorway... capacity? For starters, probably 40,000-45,000 with room for expansion if need be. Giving the right backing and with the club being based close to London, having excellent international transport links and having beautiful surrounding areas, I don't see why any player wouldn't want to play for SU, given the right backing and vision etc. I think the best thing about this is John PFC Westwood certainly wouldn't approve so at least we'd be rid of him and that ****ing cowbell...

I actually think it looks quite cool. Question, hypothetical one at best. What if this happened? Say, the fans of both sides 'accepted' this. A new ground built halfway between the two cities... would 'SU' ever be able to compete with the best in the Prem or be capable of the Champions League? Would it be a place where players would want to play? How big COULD the gates at the new club be? What is the real, honest potential of the SU? Obviously, it'll never happen like I said above but I'm just asking.... and curious to other peoples opinions...

Haha... mate, the feeling is mutual, as is the offer, although I am ever so slightly effeminate so mine would be a vodka coke if possible? :-) I messaged someone who shared my viewpoint the other day... I was damning about my fellow fans, as I have been this past couple of months. Let's just say, reading this forum thoroughly this evening I really did feel a sense of belonging again. Yes, there are debates, arguments and disagreements but boiling beneath it all is a simmering hope that everything will be OK again. I honestly, sincerely believe we will all get the opportunity to pull in the same direction again. I'm tired of bickering, I have recently resulted to petty insults and snide remarks. I know I shouldn't have but I did. Then, it finally dawned upon me - I am really, really, not engaging myself with my fellow 'brothers'. I have got so embroiled in hatred and negativity and arguments that I seldom spoke of football anymore. That is when I knew that it had gone too far. I hope for the others like me, no matter what part of the divide they currently sit, also experience this. It was tantamount to englightenment, not so much in a spiritual sense but more of a, well... a realisation. We've gone on for so long now with **** up after mistake after **** up and rightly, or wrongly, as fans, we've all had our say and in some cases, fought amongst ourselves because of this. We have been through the wringer twice and once more and we've had to stomach some of the most unfortunate set of circumstances which could ever befall a loyal fanbase. Soon, we will have a chance of unity again. I hope to never have to mention any of the old guard's names again. I look forward to debating tactics, opposition, transfers and and team itself... the things I have overlooked so often in recent months. The only things us fans should have to worry about. I hope we get two strong leaders, a chairman with vision and a plan to compliment a manager whose charisma can involve and instil a 'us against the world' mentality. God knows, we're going to need it next year and to overcome our penalty we need to come out fighting from the first whistle. If SFC give us something to be proud of again the fans will reciprocate. Fingers crossed all intentions are sincere and we can all once again, sleep easy about the future of Saints. If and when I'm back in the UK next season, I will happily share a drink with you and anyone else I have wrongly rounded upon in recent months. Hell, I might even dip into my pocket and buy them all! Let's see what the fixture list throws up and hopefully we can make that a date.

Ha, no, seriously... there is nothing more than I would want than the above... unity will be the key... it will galvanise not only the club and fans, but the city and it's people... as I said on the other thread, everything will seem so much prettier, tastier, happier.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Make no mistake, we stand on the threshold of a new era. I myself cannot wait to let bygones be bygones and welcome in a new dawn of unity at the club, and as Al Pacino said in his speech in 'Any Given Sunday' (I refer everyone to watch this speech btw) "either we heal, now, as a team... or we will die... as individuals" Hair-raising stuff... I guess my point is, pretty much is echoed in the sentiments of many of StuRomseySaint's thread. We've all had a gutful... I know I have... all the ****ing and moaning and rounding upon our own supporters. I don't want to preach to any of you as I myself can no longer go to games... I am essentially a 'fan' but not a 'supporter' but irrespective of my personal feuds, battles and previously held beliefs, there is nothing more I want than unwavering unity. The great thing about this whole sorry mess is that we will soon have the opportunity, the chance, to grasp this again. We will soon have the opportunity to move on and eventually, Southampton FC will be able to build a solid base for the future. It's not going to be easy but the next group of players at this club I hope will wear the shirt with immense pride. It is up to us to make sure they know exactly how we feel and to give them our unconditional backing. The feeling will transfer to them and is reciprocal - once they figure our love, it will be given back to us genuinely... I honestly believe that. There are some fantastic examples around the world of players-fans relationships, we just have to take the initiative. It would be fantastic to make SMS more intimidating, yet this can only truly be done with the fans vociferous backing. Soon, we'll be given the chance to regroup as one and move forward as one. The diversity of opinion that split us all for so long will vanish and with that, hope will be ushered into its place. Forza Saints!
