Saints are right to follow 'showcase club' path to progress
Barry the Badger replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Well written article, and I agree with the main points, but I do think you've over egged the point about fans rolling their eyes and thinking we're a selling club. All of the saints fans I know are understanding of the clubs position, realistic enough to know this is how it is, and trust the club to bring in decent replacements. That perhaps wasn't the case last year when it felt a lot less controlled, but I don't think these "many fans" really exist. -

Don't be an arse. You know what he meant. -
Not sure who was worse, us or that commentator.

That was amazing to watch. What an incredible player.

Yes because money received for transfers just goes into its own account and is ringfenced for transfers in and is definitely never spent on things like wages, training grounds, the academy etc. Just take what has come in, minus what has been spent on transfers, and we must have that money sitting around doing nothing.
-
Yeah, cos we've got all the money.

1 - Not a club of our size, no. English players will always be in demand and any club producing a number of good ones together would be pillaged as we were, unless they had a lot of money from somewhere and could afford to say no. 2 - I don't think we have much choice, we had a great core of English players, they all decided to leave. It's a shame but I'm happy just to have a few players coming through from the academy every now and again. It's unrealistic to expect us to buy lots of English players and throw them straight into the prem, they cost so much money.

Maybe they think he's worth more than we do.

"Les, Apline is losing his **** again on Saintsweb." "Ok, ok, I was hoping that by waiting we'd keep 10m back for other transfers but **** it, just bid our entire 30m transfer budget on him before all hell breaks loose. Then we will just have to deal with him whinging that we haven't signed anybody else later".
-
No, I think he means like Freddy Adu, Cherno Samba, Tom Taiwo, John Bostock, Gael Kakuta. The list goes on.
-
He's a British player who appears to have a slightly above average level of technical skill, so everybody gets excited.

Krueger: The Europa League is not a negative for Southampton
Barry the Badger replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
There really are people, people who think this will halt our march to the Champs Lg. JUST ENJOY THIS! -
In terms of moments & goals from promotions, these stand out for me.. Guly 1-0 vs Bristol Rovers was HUGE Jonathan Forte vs MK Dons Barnard at Leyton Orient Kelvin penalty save home vs Brighton, amazing celebrations. Brighton away, obviously, Fonte's goal. Leeds home on the opening day, set the tone for the season. The 5-2 at Ipswich was when I realised how good we were. Kelvin, Leeds away. Palace away felt like a big game, great goal from Rickie.

I think it's a bit fashionable to dislike Townsend, but he's the kind of player other nations would find a way to use properly. VERY direct.

anyone know a midfielder that scores goals ?
Barry the Badger replied to JonnyOldBoy's topic in The Saints
It's easy to underestimate the impact of a defensive midfielder who can chip in with 5 goals in a season. I'd be surprised if our black box didn't take it into account to some degree. -
Pelle up for BBC MOTD goal of the season!
Barry the Badger replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Much like Long winning ours, idiots voted for Wilshere simply because they could remember it. -
I'd rather see Pelle trying to make those runs. City step up really well. Hope he doesn't get put off trying.

When is the minute's silence?

James Milner

You have just exactly explained why we cant make the CL. All that talk abou what we can do, all that positivity, and then the best realistic tarhet you can come up with is James Milner. James Milner is going to take us to the Champions League. James Milner
