NO it isn't, there is a very good and wide selection of places. Ennios as i've mentioned is top notch Italian, Corriander Lounge is first class, i took my bro in law there a few weeks ago, he lives in Leeds and said it's the best Indian restaurant he's ever been too. There loads of other good places too, Thai Cafe in Oxford Street is outstanding, Zen, NV, Puchhinnis, someone else metioned the Chillworth arms which is really good and i live near the Cowherds so go there fairly regularly and that too is very good. There are loads of good restuarants in Southampton.
