The difference between Southampton and Brighton...

I'm not so sure our squad is better than Brighton's. We have two players (Lallana and Chamberlain) who are head and shoulders above anyone else in the league, but take them out and we are probably pretty close to Brighton. Lallana has been injured and Chamberlain slightly off form recently, hence why we've not been playing quite as well. A lot of the rest of the squad isn't nearly as good as some people on here think. Brighton have been pretty darn impressive this season and it can't just be down to having a supposedly better manager. Poyet can only do so much, and they must have some pretty impressive players to have done as well as they have done. It's a bit arrogant to suggest we definitely have a much better squad than them. How many times have you watched Brighton this season? How do you know their players aren't as good? -
Agree. I remember after the Oldham game all the talk was about when, not if we would overtake Brighton at the top. Now, according to some we'll be lucky to even make the play-offs (despite losing 1 in the last 10 games).

My god I was so annoyed when that happened.

He kept looking around, thinking it was someone else we were singing too. Fair play to Flinders at the end for clapping the fans after all the stick he got.

Absolute rubbish. They are about the same. Remember Wycombe away last season? Tranmere? Exeter? Brentford? Millwall? Gillingham? Swindon home and away? Huddersfield away? Oldham at home? Every game expect Bristol Rovers this season? There were plenty of times under Pardew where we were absolutely gash, just as there has been for Adkins. We played some great stuff under Pardew at times, especially against Huddersfield, Walsall, Bristol Rovers etc, but have done exactly the same this season under Adkins at Oldham and against Huddersfield and Exeter. We are at about the same level we were last season, no better no worse. -
I think Brighton might have something to say about that. Their squad is clearly better.

Some of the hysterical posting on here today is hilarious. Last 10 league games we've won 6, drawn 3 and lost 1. Not bad for a team that 'will struggle to even make the play offs'. Lallana coming back makes a huge difference. And who the f cares what he says in his interviews? Does it really matter?

I go to every game and I'm confident we'll still get automatic promotion. It's not true we were hammering everyone home and away this time last season at all. One year ago today we put in an abysmal performance at Wycombe. Before that we were lucky to scrape draws at Exeter and Brentford and were very unconvincing against a rubbish Stockport side. So in the last few weeks we've been about as bad as we were this time last season. We didn't hit our peak until shortly after that Wycombe game, starting with Walsall at home. Who's to say we won't do the same this year, starting with Swindon on Satuday? Lallana being back will make a big difference. Our run in looks good.

Very dull game. Reminds me of Wycombe away which was exactly this time last year funnily enough. Only highlight was 'Alan Carr'. Not the worst result in the world though with other sides drawing though. I see the wrist slitters are out in force on here this morning though, I guess we might as well give up on promotion now. Don't be such a drama queen. We didn't deserve to lose, they were even worse than us. I guarantee all the other teams up their have put in plenty of terrible performances this season as well, that's just the nature of this division. We were never going win 6-0 every week. We have no divine right to win these sort of games and they are a lot harder than people think. Leeds probably had a much better squad last season than we do now, and they only just stumbled over the line, dropping plenty of points to lower sides. We are still in a cracking position. Win our games in hand and we are in the automatic promotion places. We have a pretty decent run in too. Keep the faith people!

I agree, but I think given his age he can't really play every Saturday/Tuesday, hence Adkins rotating him with Seaborne.
-
Love them all, but I agree with your order. 1. Morgan 2. Chappy 3. Deano. Can't understand how some people don't rate Schneiderlin, he's a class act, always has been.

Watching Paul Merson talk complete and utter sh*te on Sky. He said earlier Italian club football is dead (Who are the current CL holders?).
-
If that was the case we would have missed out on a lot of players who we stole from other clubs.
-
Very annoying. Hadn't travelled that far before we got the news at least. Was looking forward to this one though!!!! What else is there to do on a rainy Saturday?
-
Wasn't that great during 2007/08 but was a lot better the next season. Best memory of Euell was Ipswich away when we won 3-0. He got a couple of goals and was outstanding all night. It looked like we could stay up after that. Top bloke, best of luck to him at Doncaster. Also, are Donny trying to get a team full of ex Saints? First Joseph Mills, Wayne Thomas and Simon Gillett and now Euell.
-
Don't think he was on trial, but Strachan said we had on opportunity to buy him before he went to Marseille (And a year before his £24m transfer to Chelsea) but we decided against it in the end.
-
Jason St Juste! Had completely forgotten about him.
-
Following on from all the ex player threads we've had on here recently, I was wondering if people can remember any notable players we've had on trial over the years that we haven't ended up signing? I saw Darren Carter play for us in pre season at Barnet last year and thought he looked pretty decent. I remember under Redknapp we had former Skate Valery Mezague and Rui Marques along with Greek winger Pantelis Konstantinidis (Had to look up his name). Can anyone remember any more? Anyone decent we missed out on?
-
He's pretty good on Football Manager. Don't remember him doing much for us apart from that goal against Ipswich but he was only young and it looks like he's improved a lot since then.

Possession is overrated anyway. Inter had less possession than most of the sides they played in the CL last season and they won the whole thing. They barely touched the ball in the 2nd leg at the Nou Camp last season.
