Maybe Liverpool don't have the money until Coutinho is sold to Barca and maybe Barca don't have the cash until Neymar is sold to PSG..

Saints Transfers Thread - Deadline Day
Highfield Saint replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
See a lot of people are asking for a DCM but could Jack Stephens perform this role (a bit like Toby did from time to time) either as a straight DCM or as part of a central back three stepping forward as the wing backs drop back? -

Why does the club fall apart every summer ?
Highfield Saint replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
What choice do we have? Our income doesn't match the biggest clubs and as I understand it FFP limits what we can spend on wages etc meaning we cant buy or keep the best players and that we have to grow the club organically to establish ourselves for the longer term as an aspiring club. The strategy do achieve this is buying, improving and selling on a selective basis. What is so hard to understand? It does seem to be working and if we sell Bertrand and VVD then in theory we have £100m to spend on a combination of transfer fees and salaries. That is likely to be more than the clubs around us and once again we would expect to see an improvement in the club's relative position. Wether that strategy will take us into the top 6 is unknown but unlikely as the gap between us and the 6 is too big to bridge in that way. Perhaps that is why additional investors are being sought? -
Chances don't come much easier than a penalty...

You have to compare the relative strengths of the division as well. Is the league and players stronger than 2003? Probably yes as clubs have the financial strength to recruit from across Europe.

Saints 0 Man Utd 0 - Buildup, Match and over-reactions Thread
Highfield Saint replied to Heisenberg's topic in The Saints
just an observation but the last 5 penalties taken in Saints games have all missed or been saved - Gabbiadini, Long, Milner, Tadic and Arter... -
If (not unimaginable but may regret this tomorrow!) we won all 4 we could end up about 7 points behind Everton.

Rumours of takeover/investment interest

Eisner went into a Portsmouth pub - and was well received? and the point? What if Markus had done the same before his takeover here? Only a skate on a wu would suggest that the two situations are comparable in any way - you are clutching at a straw and are hoping desperately that he is your Markus. You have nothing but hope and certainly nothing to lose. We have an owner who is proven an established and improving club and are wondering what, if anything, might change. -
StatsBomb: What has happened to Southampton?

Gabbiadini from day 1 and a keeper and it would have been a different season all round -
Fulham or Reading for me.

Went last June - flew into Olbia and stayed on Costa Smeralda in Baja Sardinia. Absolutely loved it!! Quite busy in June so can imagine it gets very busy in the Italian peak holiday periods. Don't bother with the boat trip around the archipelago though as a bit of mass transit day with 10 mins on each beach. 100% going back

"We fully support our player. Tyrone has an excellent disciplinary record and has not been sent off in 75 matches as a professional. During that time he has only received 13 yellow cards - the last of which came in April 2015." Talk about spin - that's once every six games and he only played twice last year I think!

Thanks for the good times mate but it's done - move on.

We make a lot of money by showcasing and selling players for more than they are worth. We groom them into a product that is very much in demand and capitalise on this with inflated values. It is one of the real skill sets in the club and as yet the media (who constantly ask how we can sell our best players) don't see it. I think it may be slowly changing though but we have hopefully created a base (based on sales profits to improve revenue) that will allow us to build using a retained player model

This is the Saintsweb version of "Mornington Crescent"?

Was having a discussion at half time on Sat with mates. We've all been going for many years and they all said that he was lightweight, lazy, couldn't pass, couldn't dribble and so on. I think he is a fantastic talent and will be a special player for us. Time will tell...

It seems that the main contributors to this board cannot be satisfied by anything the club do. We have one "functioning" goalkeeper and the club get rammed for signing what seems a decent back up on loan and then the reaction on here to signing what is by all accounts a highly talented footballer that hasn't yet come good is depressing. A player whose previous club wanted a cut of future sales because they believe that he will become a top player. Jeezus wept. We haven't signed a centre back so maybe - just maybe - the situation isn't that desperate? Maybe the club know a little more than we do about this? Manolo will be playing in the shirt and should get a great welcome and full support from everyone. Welcome to St Mary's Manolo!!!

I think Fonte will play Sat. Pull has sort of indicated this already...

They were better than us on the night but ... the deflection for the first, the sending off - debatable - and the deflection off Romeu to make rubbish ball into a great ball for the third...
