As part of my occasional senile ramblings, I thought it was time again to write down my incoherent thoughts on my club. I know no one in the club, its management staff etc. and only one ex-player whom I speak to once in a while when he drops into my place of work. So basically I am just like the majority of you guys and galls out there. The way I see things are that the club prior to July 2009 and Markus' takeover, was a completey different company to the one now. In the pre-amble to the recent Man Utd match WGS when talking about Saints said he couldn't figure out where all the money had gone, condidering that to his knowledge all the players wages were reduced by 50% upon relegation. This line of thougtht about were all the clubs transfer/ticket etc. money had gone was debated by some on here (if my fading memeory serves me right). When ML and his trusted man NC saved the club I recall them saying how lacking and disorganised the management structure had been. There was I believe at this time many examples of the 'old boy network' and cronyism with people using the club as a bit of a cash cow. I remember stories on this forum and peoples incredulous reaction about how much Lawrie Mac. was reputed to be being paid for an 'ambassador' role. NC has a experienced history in banking and on his arrival at the club, I recall him saying how much work was needed to get basic business practices re-established at the club. He has stated more than once that he wants the club to be self-supporting. To this end he has not just brought in the people he believes are best for the job in whatever part of the business they are required, but he has also disposed of the deadwood and unproductive areas and personel. Under the old regime all hosts of people were making nice livings off the club, through 'advisory' roles or 'ambassadors' or from gifts of shares etc. When these people were cast adrift by NC most have faded away into the distance and keep their own thoughts to themselves. A few however appear bitter and would seem to be making a continued attack on NC personnally. Stirring up all sorts of rubbish trying to destabilise the club, with I presume the intention of miffing NC off and making him leave so they can return and feed at the trough once more like so many politicians. In my opinion, the club is being run the most businesslike it has been in a very long time. On the pitch things are continuing to develop and when strengthening is needed money seems to be made available for new players. In the acadamy we appear to have a good group of young players coming through. The plans for investment for the improvement of the acadamy having been resubmitted because the first weren't ambitious enough. NC has stated that we are financial stable, Markus' family are in full support of what is happening here, and money is available. The crowds are at there highest in a while, and there is a feeling of expectation arouind that we as a club are going upwards. Do I agree with everything that NC has done. No. However we all make mistakes, I know I have made some whoopers. So if a debt free club, with good quality players, no longer forced to sell players, premiership quality ground, widely admired acadamy, with a business savvy chairman who has ambitions to get us into the Champions League, with the financial backing to fulfill that dream. If this is not good enough for you I just dont know what would.

Its like alot of things ... when an article is called something for long enough people always refer to it by the 'new' name, and not its real name. Another example is the mk5 Cortina. It never 'officially' existed. The name given to it by Ford and used in all its publicity etc. Was the Cortina 80, because it was only to them an update of the MK 4 Cortina. However everyone has called it the Mk5 so that is the name by which everyone now knows it.

The refusal to sell a season ticket at Southampton FC
landford.saint replied to lenwilkins's topic in The Saints
THE SAINTS TRUST 1. Who are they? 2. How many of them are there? 3. What do they do? Because I for one dont know there current status. Historically? yes. but currently? -
The refusal to sell a season ticket at Southampton FC
landford.saint replied to lenwilkins's topic in The Saints
Says absolutely nothing apart from "Look at the IFO report". so unless someone has seen this report we have precisely 1 fact. For some reason NI has had his season ticket application declined. At this time NI is saying nothing, SFC are saying nothing. So we have wasted 10 pages on nothing.. About the same as 99% of threads on here really. -
Just to be a complete anorak... The saloon version was produced first and was called the Consul Classic 315 ..... The coupe was called the Consul Capri. They were all made on cheap pressings because they were awaiting the arrival of the Consul Cortina (now referred to as the Mk1 Cortina), and were intended to have a short production life. The Classic originally had a 1340cc version of the Pre-crossflow engine, with only ba 3 bearing crank. Ford had a lot of warrannty repairs because the crank would break .

Burst out laughing at work, they now think the 'old man' is losing his marbles.

From row X it was my impression that the person on the stretcher was female, aSaints fan, and was on 'gas and air' (for pain relief). Then again I'm myopic so probably wrong. However must admit Mrs LS and myself had a really enjoyable evening in the middle off block 41. We Were in our usual ST seats, and were joined by many from block 42. Interesting sight at end of the match when some manc about mid-40's was over by black segregation stripe giving it big to a group of 4 or 5 pre-shaving saints youths. He obviously didn't realise what a complete nob he looked.

But surely playing for saints and live in this Beautiful area has got to be worth more than 500,000 than playing and living in Hull.

Not into them myself but understand there an active club for the MG TURBO Metro. With regards CMS I understand that we have MADE A BID of 1,000,000 . I know my source has close links with club, but this is first time he has given me info. so I dont know how reliable it is.

So to sum up. 1. AW says it would be nice to have AOC but there haven't been any talks yet. 2. NA says as far as he knows there haven't been any talks. 3. Mr OC snr (agent and dad) says that Arsenal would be his perfered option but there haven,t been any talks. So to sum up AW and the OC family think Arsenal would be a good place for AOC to play next, but no talks have taken place. So at this moment in time, the newspapers are having a quiet time despite the transfer window so are spinning alot of ****** to fill lines in papers. However they could all be toeing the party (NA) line and keeping everthything as quiet as possible in this media frenzied age, and a deal is being brokered as we speak.

I think, therefore I am I can't think therefore I steal other peoples ideas. Did you know that Descartes is credited for a lot of early psychology thesis that it is probable that he stole from Edward Reynolds born in Southampton.

30 odd years ago was at a wedding reception. At 3 o'clock managed to get the saints commentary on my car radio, parked in the car park outside the reception. As the game progressed I had to keep turning the radio up to cater for the ever increasing crowd of wedding guests round my car listening to the match including the brides father. By the end of the match there were more guests in the car park than there were in the reception.... I was not very popular with the bride and her mother. And as for the brides father, well I'm surprised he stayed married.

To be fair they are not wrong... True we are a handful at L1 level... but at top end Premiership level? In theory they should rip us apart. All we can hope for is that they some how on the day 'bottle it' and we play out of our skins. And then given the most amazing bit of luck we might keep the score to a respectable level and not be made to look silly.

6 Different Goal Scorers.... Last time?
landford.saint replied to landford.saint's topic in The Saints
Thanks that answers that then. Time to close the thread then??? -
The question that keeps getting asked, and to which I haven't seen an answer is When was the last time in a competitive match did Saints have 6 different goalscorers (regardless of how many we scored). Let alone 6 goals and six goalscorers

"And Lo there was much laughter throughout the land, even amongst the household of Landfordsaint"

"Southampton are waiting for any club to meet their valuation of their winger" Now I heard (possibly on here) that we had valued Punch at roughly £1,000,000. If Blackpool have offered £200,000. Isn't that going to be an awfully long wait.

Oddly enough I felt a bit overdressed. And no stripey shirt i felt really odd. Not dressed for footy at all. And then having to sit on padded seats instead of standing amongst the riff-raff it felt most odd. However back to normal on Saturday...

Big John, GM, Pokingfun, Hunty, et al... what was this an unofficial forum get together. $150 for MU. Initial reaction was WHAT!!!! But thinking about it, if tickets are $30 as most on here are suggesting. Season ticket holders, members (if there is still such a athing) and attendees to Blackpool first should see most regular fans with tickets. That leaves the plastics, so they can pay $150 a throw for a ticket if they really want to watch MU. Odd how many times I have been asked since sunday if I can get people a ticket......

GM, yes there were a couple of kids running around, but in no way was this the mayhem you describe. At no time was I even really aware of the kids. They at no time inconvenience me, in fact just the opposite I thought it was a lovely friendly hasslefree experience. Until you mentioned it on here I hadn't even thought about the kids.
-
However GM I must concur with you regarding seats. Having no problems myself I was unaware that there wasn't enough seating for those who had paid to be there... this is an issue that should be addressed.
-
Personally I wasn't the victim of or saw any bad behaviour from any of the kids. Yes one or two were a bit excited, thats to be expected...... But bad behaved? Not near me.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I was at the corporate with group of friends saturday, First time Mrs LS and myself had done hospitality. We (possibly due to group size, roughly 10 of us) had reserved table. Food was very tasty and plenty of it.... We all had a thoroughly good time. Yes there were a number of kids running around, but they in no way spoiled our enjoyment. Mrs LS and I are thinking of repeating the experience later in the season.
