The best way I can think of to describe that? That was FUN to watch

The current name of this thread is Pompey Takeover Saga. They're still in administration and awaiting a takeover. The thread might be on its last legs, but it's not dead just yet.

See Dune, THIS is what annoys people. If someone disagrees with you, by all means post again, but try and make your points relevant to their arguments. Just trying to 'pile drive' your opinions onto other people... for a start it doesn't work, and it also annoys people.

It wasn't right that those kids had to go through that, and I in NO WAY condone what happened, but your chairman had to be expecting that kind of reaction after his conduct over the past few weeks? And yes, we care about you. About as much as every other team in this division, we need to win the vast majority of our games if we want promotion, including against you. You managed to draw extra supporters against us by hyping up your chances, goading people with your talk of being favourites against us because you're above us in the league, and maybe if you'd gotten a result against us it might have been the beginning of something, but you didn't. Your players froze in the 'derby' atmosphere, your crowd was quiet, we beat you comfortably, and our crowd settled into singing songs about how much we hate Pompey, same as we sang the week before, same as we'll sing next week. We won't be singing any songs about Bournemouth any time soon.

I'd like to apply to be a moderator, as I like to think I take the time to see any given situation objectively, and I think my posting history shows this. I'm also pretty good at getting my point across when needed, backing up arguments with documented facts, and accepting when I'm shown to be wrong. I've been a moderator on a forum before, although not for football and not nearly as big, we used to encourage users to make their argument once, ie. try and make a post actually add something to an argument, instead of sending it in circles, and to make their arguments attack the point being argued instead of other posters. It worked pretty well, but like I said it was a far smaller forum, still, hopefully the same sort of approach could work here. Another point is I'm a season ticket holder, so I'm not around on here for home matches.

Is it us clutching at straws or you burying your head in the sand? These are public figures that are in direct conflict with what your administrator has been saying is required. Added to the fact you're not out of admin yet, and it's not unreasonable to assume that the roses haven't started growing yet and all that's there is a pile of...

We paid compensation for Adkins didn't we? When we could have got someone unemployed for nothing? Phil Brown would certainly have been a 'name' we could have got for nothing, but Cortese obviously thinks Adkins has the ability and potential to be one of the best (and we doubled the wages he was getting to bring him here). I don't think it's lack of money stopping us in the transfer market, I think it's more the lack of what we're looking for. (Not to mention we already have one of the best squads in the division and already bought 3 or 4 players this season.)

He comes across as arrogant, with a poor attitude, but there's obviously some sort of issue there causing that. He's a genius with the cue in hand, he was pretty much the entire reason I started watching snooker, which dragged me in to watching other players as well and getting me interested enough to recognise the tactics involved as well as the skill... and then I was hooked. I'm not the only one like this and there wouldn't be nearly the same interest (or money!) in the game without him.

Congratulations to Dean Stoneman, a Southampton lad that has just won Formula 2, and qualified for a F1 superlicense. He's been picked up by Williams as a test driver. Hopefully he'll get a drive one day and we can all get behind him http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9012803.stm

Thanks! A full sized version of http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/4151/lightning009.jpg would be great.

Very nice. They'd be awesome for a desktop background, if you don't might them being used, just on my own computer?

And the tide is starting to turn back against them it would seem...

At the moment, Pompey are still in administration, so they're protected from a winding up order etc. and bills like that fall to the administrator to pay, if Pompey can't cover it themselves. If the Administrator is not willing to pay it they can wind the company in question up and distribute assets to the creditors.

I'm actually amazed now. I mean, I know it's Pompey, but for over a year now, I actually can't remember a single week without a bad story about them.
-
No respect for our history eh? Have you seen our shirt this season?

That's from before our statement. A few hours is a long time in football! (Also, tinyurl is your friend) Like this: http://tinyurl.com/2v8dtfc

Aww, do you think that the fact this is going on and on and on and on and on and on is starting to get to him?
-
Who's dressing it up as anything? We don't like you. That doesn't stop us being disgusted by the fact charities had money stolen from them by your club. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Just realised I hadn't taken into account the compensation issue, but it still fits (maybe a bit better now). We ask for permission to talk to Adkins, which is granted. During this the issue of compensation comes up, but we can't agree. They let us talk to him as the interview might convince us to pay what they want. We interview Adkins, tell him we'll get back to him, and start preparing for the next candidate to be interviewed. The media get wind that he's been interviewed, try to get a scoop and assume he's been appointed. Their chairman, hearing in the media he's being appointed, and not having heard anything from us about compensation etc. assumes the worst because we couldn't agree compensation, and goes off on one to the media. We release our statement.
-
Bearing in mind their chairman has been quoted as admitting he hasn't talked to Adkins yet, I think it might have gone something like this: We ask for permission to talk to Adkins, which is granted. We interview Adkins, and start preparing for the next candidate to be interviewed. The media get wind that he's been interviewed, try to get a scoop and assume he's been appointed. Their chairman, hearing in the media he's being appointed, and not having heard anything from us about compensation etc. assumes the worst and goes off on one to the media. We release our statement.

I was arguing they should present both sides to let people make up their own mind. Are you saying they should only present one side of it because you happen to believe that side and no one else should think any differently to you? Idiot.

SSN reporting that S****horpe say the offer to Adkins is withdrawn
Jimmy_D replied to Topcat's topic in The Saints
Yeah? Well I think that Scunny chairman's quotes are an emotive, bitter, swipe at Saints for not offering as much money as they think the best manager they've ever had is worth. Oooh, look, we can both play that game! -
I wish they'd update the BBC article with our statement, looks very bad on us atm until they do, when it'll be down to people to make their own mind up.
-
Notice how the quotes from the Scunny chairman don't say we didn't offer any compensation, only that none was agreed. Methinks they were asking for a silly amount and we walked away. What's caused their chairman to come out with claims of tapping up in effect... could be us, could be him, but there's no way of telling for the moment.
