  1. On SFR sport the french previewed the game with a 10 minute montage of Mourinho going into gradual meltdown over the past few weeks and now they will have another clip to add to it before their game at Goodison, home of the dugout. I thought everyone played their part, although the centre backs need to stop letting team get one free header per game. Hoedt won everything, was composed in possesion but crucially, would row z it if required. Stephens had a much better game than at Wembley, perhaps he needs JWP in front of him like in the Arsenal game. McQueen had a good game, aside from that one run uo field in the first half , when he kept his head down so much he ended up surrounded by 5 red shirts. Mc Carthy looked more composed in goal, and actually came for a few crosses. On one of the podcasts earlier this season, a pundit said that we needed to get Tadic closer to whoever was up front, and after yesterday you can see his point. The whole attack was much better. Man of the match though was Hojdberg . He is the real leader in midfield that we need. He was everywhere, and put in loads of good tackles, even after a silly early boooking. Starting to remind me of a certain mr Williams from the 80's. . It will be interesting to see if any action is taken on Ashley Young, but I'm not holding my breath on that one, the PL's Review of Dangerous Play by Teams Outside the Big Six has a bit of previous .
  2. Greaty defender, apart from the odd lapse in concentration and looks good because he can carry the ball out of defense well. Toby on the other hand reads the game better than any centre half I have ever seen, always in the right place. Toby also has a £25 million release cluase in his contract this summer, so £75 million for VVD is a great deal for Saints.
  3. God knows why we ditched 5 at the back for a tough away game, clueless. At least the team kept going, unlike the fannys on here. PEH , Boufal and Targett were ok, Gabbi and Tadic were also up for it when they came on. Long was Long. The more touches he had on the run at Lloris, the less confident he got, and he really should be moving towards that Gabbi cross, not waiting for it. We need a 2nd choice right back Stephens is not up to it, and Managla on loan if VVD goes to city. Redmond needs to be sold, his attitude stinks at the moment, and that pass for the 4th goal was disgraceful. He could have knocked it either dside of the defender and attacked it, but passed it instead stright into Spur's counter attack zone.
  4. For me, Davis and JWP should never start in the same team, as they are too lightweight and take too long on the ball to make a decision. Next time he plays, just count the number of touches that Davis takes, only to make a pass that was on in the first place. Our first choice midfield should be from PEH, Romeu and Lemina, with JWP playing if there is no-one else fit who can take corners. With Austin out for a while, we definitely need a striker in in January, but I can't think who ? Sturridge in PX for VVD ? We played OK after we scored, but sat back too deep, and narrow as the game wore on.
  5. Personally, I thought the game went to plan for the most part, keep it tight, restrict them to long shots and try to hit them on the break. Austin would not have lasted 90 minutes having to cover the ground that Gabbi did, so bring him on for the last half hour. We had 3 good half chances, plus a few scrambles in their box, minfd you they had a fair few scrambles in our box too. Whatever genius came up with the idea of keepers showing the wall side of the goal at free-kick needs shooting . It is a terrible starting position, unless you are Lloris or De Gea.
  6. The French commentators kept calling Redmond our most dangerous player, he was better than he has been, but still makes odd decisions. We really should have been 2 or 3 up in the first 10 minutes, if Charlie would watch the line a bit more. Also , once Betrand got on the end of that Tadic throughball, I thought that was in. Great team shape, very well organsied, just a shame that our wide defenders tuck in too much near the end of games. The same thing happened at Man City. That was one of the few times that Sanchez got a cross in the whole game.
  7. Davis had plenty of space to turn in, but took the safe imediate options to play it backwards, which resulted in the fullbacks being caught high up the field when Bournemouth tachled Hoeth. JWP was doing the same on the right wing all 1st half, both players need to be braver. Phil Neville would be happy with them though, as they are consistent and don't give the ball away. Couldn't believe Nevilles rant about Boufal on MOTD2. He had an up and down game, and needs to learn quickly where not to make a sliding tackle, but we are so much more dangerous when he plays together with Bertand on the left. Thought we played ok, and created lots ogf chances, but we could have conceded more as well .
  8. Boufal and Bertrand wer fantastic on the left and they should probalby be the first names on the team sheet now. Austin should have had a hat-trick with the crosses that were coming in today. MOM for me though was PEH fopr his strength, workrate, tackling and crucially, moving the ball q lot quicker than Romeu has been lately .
  9. Hot Dog, Sausage Roll, Come on Saints Score a goal!
  10. Total days since the last time you weren't called a ****,
  11. I've paid €24 to see Bordeaux v Marseille on Sunday, and as it was paired with the Rennes game, I paid another €3 to see that match. Unfortunately, Bordeaux are about as entertaining as we are at the moment. I've also bought tickets for the league cup final, which is in Bordeaux this season for €35. That is in more expensive seats than I normally choose becuase the ends have been allocated for the finallists. Fans in the UK are being robbed blind.
  12. Watched the highlights, and Hesketh looked good, took both his goals well , and his movement also looked deecent . As for the comments about McCarthy, the 2nd goal was a screamer into the top corner and the 3rd was far post at a corner with Northampton sending their keeper up. Not his fault, should have been someone on the post.
  13. Only saw a bit of the 2nd half, before the stream went and we didn't seem too bad, but I have seen the goal, which was soooo stopable. Close down the cross, and have the goalie move his ****ing feet. It will be interesting to see if we can play a Burnley style for the next few games against the big teams and pick up a point or two, but the coaching staff have no real alternative for an attacking formation, and the squad is too unblanced 2 strlkers need a target man to play off and we don't have one, we only have one number 10 in Boufall for a system that is built around that roll and we ****ed away 6 million on a centre half for the future ( would have been ok if he was the Polish Mark Wright).

    Lemina!

It is standard practice to put a protective boot on, so it is no real indication of the severity of the injury. Fingers crossed though.
  15. Thanks for that, very enjoyable and it will be on my Xmas list.
  16. I use Sport Lemon most weeksusinf chrome and adblocker, but on Saturday, when I tried to restart the stream when it was buffering, every stream was blocked with a dangerous site message, the same with Firefox. I can get it to work by turning off the anti-phising settings but is this a new feature of firefox and chrome, or is it nore likely to be newer mallware on the streams ?
  17. Streaming problems today, but we looked the more likely until Cedric slipped. At least we tried 2 up for while, and Boufal seemed lively.

    Carlton Palmer

I kept playing the Fifa Foootball Manager game for that era, just so I could sell Hughes and Ripley , no-one would buy Hirst no matter how many times you played it. Hughes for me is still the worst player ever to play a full season for Saints, a total mercenary who was too busy fouling his marker to bother to trap the ball. Palmer was already gone by then , otherwise I would have flogged him too!
  19. Only saw the 2nd half. We were very good, pressed, and moved te ball quicker, the only real flaw was Tadic and Cedric kept winning corners, rather than beating the man near post. A lot more bodies in the box, which was good. If Romeu's effort from that corner had been scuffed more, Long would have had a tap in, although I have seen him miss tap ins before ...
  20. Failed to pick up the 2nd ball for bith goals, which most keepers would have got to. If Lemina is not fit then PH must start, not the dwarf chuckle brothers. Ward-Prowse was invisible, Davis is too slow and not strong enough. Our front players got zero service today. Stephens was our best player by a mile. I think we need to play Long and Gabbi at Palace, with either Tadic or Boufal behind them. If VVD does ok for the reserves then try a back 3 again. And NEVER, EVER play Davis and JWP in the same team again!
  21. Felt sorry for Gabbi. he was making loads of good runs, but no-one was looking for him. With an Eklund or a Berkowitz type player behinf him, he would get 20 plus goals. Lamina was excellent, Long got better as the game went on . but Redmond and Tadic were not at the races, and Davis's' forward ball were slow and poor. Would have settled for a point this morning, so not to down, and it is always hard to play newly promoted sides early in the season. much better after they have had a couple of spankings.
  22. Corre Del Sporte gave him top ratings for England in that game, but what do they know ? If that header had krept inside the post it could all have been different for him. Paul Scholes' first game for England, he slipped and ended up near post instead of in the middle of the box. He scored, but if he hadn't slipped he would have been the other side of the defender who would have cleared it. It's not just talent, you need luck sometimes.
  23. My first season ticket in 78 was £26 to stand under the West Stand. Not bad for 23 games .
  24. Dr Sid Lowe on Football Weeekly was saying that Coutinho was a Barca target before Neymar left for PSG, more of an Inesta replacement.
  25. I thought we played much better and should have won at a canter. We started Ok but got better once Tadic went right and JWP moved inside. On the wing JWP would not turn his man and just played it backwards and safe, making us lopsided. The bookings were bizzare, and although I can see why he didn't give the first Penalty, he would have if the same thing happened to Deli Ali. As for the 2nd penalty, I have not seen anyone knock the ball fronm hand to hand like that since the Harlem Globetrotters. Tadic MOM for me, made everything happen. Also good to see him Boufal and redmond on the pitch at the same time and us still keep control of midfield. Finally, am I right in thinkling that the last time we won our first game of the season at home in the top flight was the 5 nil against West Ham when a young Le Tiss got the 4th goal ?
