  1. Failed to pick up the 2nd ball for bith goals, which most keepers would have got to. If Lemina is not fit then PH must start, not the dwarf chuckle brothers. Ward-Prowse was invisible, Davis is too slow and not strong enough. Our front players got zero service today. Stephens was our best player by a mile. I think we need to play Long and Gabbi at Palace, with either Tadic or Boufal behind them. If VVD does ok for the reserves then try a back 3 again. And NEVER, EVER play Davis and JWP in the same team again!
  2. Felt sorry for Gabbi. he was making loads of good runs, but no-one was looking for him. With an Eklund or a Berkowitz type player behinf him, he would get 20 plus goals. Lamina was excellent, Long got better as the game went on . but Redmond and Tadic were not at the races, and Davis's' forward ball were slow and poor. Would have settled for a point this morning, so not to down, and it is always hard to play newly promoted sides early in the season. much better after they have had a couple of spankings.
  3. Corre Del Sporte gave him top ratings for England in that game, but what do they know ? If that header had krept inside the post it could all have been different for him. Paul Scholes' first game for England, he slipped and ended up near post instead of in the middle of the box. He scored, but if he hadn't slipped he would have been the other side of the defender who would have cleared it. It's not just talent, you need luck sometimes.
  4. My first season ticket in 78 was £26 to stand under the West Stand. Not bad for 23 games .
  5. Dr Sid Lowe on Football Weeekly was saying that Coutinho was a Barca target before Neymar left for PSG, more of an Inesta replacement.
  6. I thought we played much better and should have won at a canter. We started Ok but got better once Tadic went right and JWP moved inside. On the wing JWP would not turn his man and just played it backwards and safe, making us lopsided. The bookings were bizzare, and although I can see why he didn't give the first Penalty, he would have if the same thing happened to Deli Ali. As for the 2nd penalty, I have not seen anyone knock the ball fronm hand to hand like that since the Harlem Globetrotters. Tadic MOM for me, made everything happen. Also good to see him Boufal and redmond on the pitch at the same time and us still keep control of midfield. Finally, am I right in thinkling that the last time we won our first game of the season at home in the top flight was the 5 nil against West Ham when a young Le Tiss got the 4th goal ?
  7. Do any French residents pay for SFR sport (€9.99 PM)? According to the ads you can choose which match you watch. Is it any good and will it work on 3 Mps line speed ?
  8. I wonder if they messaged the old agent VVD had when he signed his contract extension instead of the current shytster who is pushing for the move? Would be a great opportunity for revenge .
  9. The whole "We have all the cenre halves we need " thing from Klopp is just a Kansas City Shuffle, the press look left while Liverpool tell his agent that they will match any loyality bonus he loses. The Guardain yestwerday wer talking of the dippers offering him £200,000 per wekk, which is more than I had sen listed anywhere else, so that would fit my theory .
  10. Sod VVD, I'm more upset about James Richardson leaving football weekly !
  11. The best bet at this point is a player exchange, with either Chelsea or Man City, for say Christensen or Mangala ( is he still there ? ) . Even if this didn't meet Saint's valuation, the value of the incoming player could be knocked down too, meanung both clubs save on VAT, and any other percentage add-ons would also be lower. Also, at the back of my mind there has always been a worry that he will come back with JAck Whilsires ankles.
  12. Nick Holmes must be worth a shout. Consistent, brave , scored some crackers and was very good at going in for 50-50's and leaving his oppo on the ground, although he did have a strange habit of catching the ball before the ref had chance to blow his whistle Aresenal away and Forest away I think. Also, he bought my mates dayughter an Appletise the other week. Nice bloke.

  14. If he has no pace, we can use the Woolston Ferry song again. Oh Will Ferry, He doesn't travel very fast .....
  15. With Wenger sigingn his new 2 year deal, doing well at Saints could be a good audition for the Arsenal job .
  16. Not a bad idea, looking at Silva's record. We got so many crosses in, particularly in the first half, with only one target in the box. The sysyem has to change to get more bodies in there. The goal was offside, and I don't think Redmond was off in the first half when put through, but we should have made Butland work in the first hour. Incredible save by Butland from Boufal, probably the best bit of fottball in the match.
  17. The Comey sacking could well be a step to far, even for Trump. People forget that it wasn't the burglary that brought down Nixon, that could have been contained to Howard Hunt or Coulson, it was the cover up that did for him.
  18. Allowing for injury time, and the 2nd half of the 3.2 win last year, that makes it over seven hours since Liverpool have scored against Saints! Great defensve shape, and Tadic and Boufal both defended well. We need someone to hit quicjk and accurate balls up to the feet of whoever is upfront when we are on the counter attack. With the service thety were getting, it doesn't matter if it was Gabbi, Long, Keegan or Moran up front. .
  19. Freind frpm Boro would be a good option if Bertrand goes. Maguire has looked good in some games, but maybe lacks pace.
  20. It doesn't matter who is up front , if we play 2 in midfield, they never get the ball. Back 7 was OK, but the shape is wrong. McGuire looked godd for them, although , having said that we played most things straight down his throat. Simms needs to go out on loan, as he he too easily pushed off the balll, and Long and JayRod need to leave. I goal evey ten games for Long this season, but I suppose that is better than Berahino. Match of the day looks like a goalfest tonight !
  21. On Football Weekly recently they were talking about Jack Wilshire and his recurring injureis, and one of the journo said that ankle injuries can be much more serious than even an ACL injury. as the joint is so complex. It could mean that Virgil will no longer be a 40 game a season player, or it couild mean that other clubs will want to see him back in action for a few months, before they commit to spending 50 or 60 million?
  22. Also. their young French No 10 Gourcuff ( a €22m signing from Bordeaux) got a series of injuries that more or less finished him.
  23. Thery were better than us in all departments. Pep did a good tactical job in shutting us down in the wide areas, and when we did win the ball, we gave it straight back with poor passiing. No-one ever tried a ball through the channels for Gabbi to run onto. Stephens had a good game, other than the 3rd goal. It is typical Saints that when we did get it on target, Bravo makes his first save of the year. Hope Long keeps storming right up that tunnel. Also, other than giving us the benefit of the doubt on the penalty call, Swarbrick gave us nothing. I hope we aren't on BT again, as their coverage of anyone other than the big clubs is ****e! Mc Manamman is just awful and their commentator gave out a lsit of our 6 home defeat this season ( it was the fifth) and listed Everton and Leicester in the teams that hace beaten us. If we are on BT again this season, I am going for a Russian stream instead.
  24. Two players on some peoples get rid lists absoloutley bossed the central midfield today. Pleased for both of them as they have had to be patient. Yosji and Stephens were immense, although I did get nervous when Stephens set of on his VVD/Beckenbauer runs up the field. Forster should gain a lot of confidence form that performance. As for Shane Long diving when he was through on goal, in the words of the Velvet Underground "What goes on in your mind ? ".
  25. Is it too much to expect that during the massively important negotiations of the next couple of years, that our national broadcasting service attempts to report the process and the future prospects of our country fairly and with some degree of optimism? The BBC always gives a balanced point of view, often too balanced. I anm constantly surprised that they don't have to follow every Brain Cox appearance with a response from flat earthers and Creationists As for the idea that they should keep an optimistic tone, these are trade negotiations, the country is not at war with Europe. Censorship may be high up on Trump's and May's agenda, but not mine. Tell the 78 MP's to switch over to Fox news instead.
