  1. Slight digression, but a significant factor in the BEA Trident crash was that the pilot was an autocrat with an underlying heart problem that affected his performance. My understanding was that although the Trident had the potential to stall, the lack of teamwork on the flight desk made the situation catastrophic when it did. It will be interesting to see what the root cause of the Sala crash was, and whether only having one less experienced pilot was a significant factor. Assuming that it is possible to work this out. I have always thought that having two pilots working together as a team gives better outcomes when facing potential accidents.
  2. At last a few sensible posts compared to the nonsense on the thread yesterday. It is going to take RH time to sort out the mess left by the three previous managers. But at least he has started. We should have enough to stay up, and then the process carries on in the summer. There are still players to shift who don't have a long term future (Forster, Austin etc), but we have made a good start. Getting the wage bill down will start to free up funds for the summer. Just a pity that we have wasted much of the Van Dijk money on poor players who are now moving on.
  3. Expect lots of activity in the summer. Hopefully some of the loanees (Hoedt, Cedric, Carillo etc) will turn into permanent transfers which will raise cash for incoming transfers, and RH will get a couple of players he wants in. Given how bloated the squad had become and the poor quality signings of the past couple of years its going to take a while to sort it all out. Just getting players who don't want to be here away from the club has to be positive. Would be nice for it to happen quickly, but we have already blown the Van Dijk money on mediocrity so have to sell players to raise the cash.
  4. Saw Slattery play at Derby. Looked OK. May develop. Obafemi is very raw but looks like he may have something. Like Valery's attitude. Think that he could do well. Not afraid to get stuck in. Agree with the comments about some of the others. Especially the comment about the key development years of some of them coinciding with poor management. Especially Reed. Really rated him when he first played, but it looks a bit late for him now. Although he is clearly going to have a career in Championship/League 1.
  5. The weird thing about the Brighton game was that there were two stonewall penalties that weren't given, and two dodgy ones that were. Lambert went down fairly easily for the second one that was given, having previously been wrestled to the ground by a defender and getting nothing. Brighton were a horrible niggly Gus Poyet side at the time and the ref never really had control of the game. We also got two penalties at Millwall the same season, the second of which was a handball by a very young Harry Kane. Wondered if that ref ever went back to the Den.
  6. The fact that Cedric has worked with RH for a few weeks and still wants to leave says that he is not on the bus. Let him go. Valery is playing ahead of him, which is a good indication of this. It is going to take time to sort the squad out and correct the mistakes of the last couple of years. We still have a lot of players out on loan that we really want rid of. Much of this will happen in the summer. Think that we have more than enough now see out this season and to comfortably avoid relegation. But think that the Summer will be busy.
  7. Completely agree. The thing that I like about him is that he is not afraid to get stuck in and be physical with the opposition, something that Cedric simply cannot do. Looks like he has a football brain on him, and with good coaching from RH will only get better.

Nah. 1.5 then the mods shut it down.
  9. Anyone reckon we should play Mo?
  10. he's a ****ing useless ****e
  11. Would certainly help having an extra player
  12. Bring back Deppo.
  13. Going to be in Vienna next week with work. Bit of a long shot but does anyone know where I might be able to watch the game?
  14. HCDAJFU?
  15. This. I was also at the game, although not in seat K507. RH sent out a mix and match team and hopefully will have learnt a few things - one of which has to be that Elyounoussi is really not very good. We finished the game with 6 players who have come through the academy - none of who are regulars in the first XI. We looked reasonably in control for an hour, then it all went a bit ragged. Which was kind of to be expected given the substitutions. But we didn't lose. And I also enjoyed the day out.
  16. Think it only went to sold out on OS at lunchtime on Friday. Assume that’s because they stopped selling tickets then and returned the rest to Derby since you could pay on the day for the game. Think this explains this one. No idea about Leicester.
  17. Just spoken to Francis Benali. Reckons there's nothing wrong with this tackle and that he got the ball.
  18. Going up on Saturday. Any good suggestions on where to park or pubs to get food?
  19. kwsaint jr. responding to kwsaint sr.: does this explain why from when I was 4 all other football clubs were banned in the house bar a moderate interest in Winchester City?
  20. Make that three. Summer 1969 as well. I was 7. Wanted a man c shirt as they had just won the cup. Dad bought me a saints shirt instead. After my first visit to the dell 18 months later i was glad he did.
  21. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I was more than willing to deal with the music being played before kick-off instead of chanting. But what the **** was that? The players walk out to some sort of trance light display. No doubt people thought it was 'cool' but it's quite hard trying to drink a cup of tea when the lights look like they're being controlled by a 9 year old on a sugar high. I suppose this is the sign of things to come...
  22. Expect lots of movement in the transfer window. RH has had a good look at all the players now - which was partly what todays performance was about. Expect a very weak team at Derby next Saturday. There are a number of players whose days at SMS are clearly numbered - Cedric, Elyounoussi, Hoedt, Gabbi, Davis, Forster. Thing is that RH will know about players in other leagues - bit like Koeman did when bringing in Pelle, Mane and Tadic for not much money. Big problem is Lemina. There is a good played in there somewhere and he will have to play the next three games. Think that we will survive - just.
  23. In the great escape of 1998/99 (is it really 20 years ago?) we had 10 points after 16 games and lost game number 17. We were in the bottom three the entire season until three games from the end. Finished on 41 points. So it can be done. What made the difference that season was after Christmas 1998 we started winning all our home games. Think that this is where we need to see the change this season. Plus I don't think that we will need 41 points to survive this season. My guess is that 34-35 points will be enough. But we need to see signs of improvement really quickly to have a chance. Be interesting to see where we are a month from now.
