Plus the fact he had a fairly public bust up with the national coach some time ago. I don't know if he has featured since.

Won't the release clause prevent this? Not to say his club won't look to change the terms of a deal ie more upfront at the last minute, but I thought the fee might be set as the release clause.

Channon's recollection:
-
Channon after 90 seconds as I recall, and Gilchrist's a spectacular over head kick. 4-0 at half time.
-
..and I remember hearing they beat us in the 5th round when they won the cup in 1968.
-
Would be good if we could get sufficient ticket allocation but that seems unlikely.
-
Glad to see Adkins in the next round. Targett came on as a halftime sub for Fulham today.
-
Can we really expect to defend a 1-0 lead for 86 minutes ?
-
.... it gets better and better
-
Or first minute of injury time.Every match.

What isn't, Mawson ? No great surprise as that never looked to be on the cards. Or do you mean any CB at all ? That would be disappointing when its a position we need to upgrade on. But if we can overlook the GK issue for two seasons it probably shouldn't come as a surprise.

Are they even similar players though ?

Far too ambitious and obvious for for Reed. Buying someone with a WC winners medal doesn't have the same appeal as buying a reserve player no one had heard of a year ago and watching him develop in order for the media to fawn over the fabled black box.

At £19m, I can't help thinking we could have done better for our money. Van Hanegem mentioned a Feyenoord striker linked with Newcastle. Having looked at the brief Youtube clips (yes, okay I know can't be relied upon but..) and read about him he did seem to have a bit more about his game than Carillo. Although to balance that perhaps Carillo hasn't had as much opportunity to showcase his talents at Monaco. So just have to trust Pellegrino's judgement.

Current players who remind you of former players
Badger replied to Nordic Saint's topic in The Saints
Redmond reminds me of Danny Wallace, but I think it's more a recollection of Wallace in a Rank Xerox shirt than much else. Pretty sure I've seen Nick Holmes out there this season as well a couple of times this season. -
I remember him playing in the first couple of seasons I followed Saints, and that he was a highly respected player, several older relatives saying he had been an outstanding right back and very unlucky to miss out on a place oin the World Cup winning team. Respected and dignified as a manager as I recall, and he was definitely an authoritive voice as a summariser on radio. One of the "voices" of football, and one of the gentlemen of the game.

Alternatively it might be an appointment to the end of the season, massive bonus to keep us up. If I was in Reed's shoes I wouldn't expect him (Silva) to be looking any longer than that. It seems pretty clear he covets the Everton job*. *Perhaps Les will see this as another opportunity to fleece them for compensation when he leaves for them though.
-
Think I've read this a few times before though. Do you think we will ?
-
No had a 2-2 a couple of years ago. Not as good as c2003/4 when we had the better of them for a couple of years including the 4-0 in the FA Cup and the Delap overhead 1-0
-
Too lightweight and fragile, both physically and mentally, pairing any two of those. Any of them would improve with a stronger CB partner alongside them.
-
Lowe did for the Gray/Strachan appointment, on a Sunday evening as well as I recall, and Cortese did for Adkins/Poch. As for Reed, we can hope, but it seems unlikely for the Master of Dither to act in such a fashion, our dealings are far more drawn out.

For physical presence the two names touted on here and in the press have been Jansen at Leeds, and Julien from Toulose. Can't see Jansen being keen given our league position, although that can of course be overcome by £££. Don't know much about Julien, but neither have played at the PL level before so represent a risk.
-
Gracia can't be that highly rated or known as none of our respected pundits on here have, to my knowledge, ever mooted him for us.

Excellent to get a point from a game where most of us were expecting a thumping. But as said before, it counts for nothing if we revert to type in the next match and balls that up. On the strength of previous experience after such games against the more glamorous opponents I don't think we can rely on MP to motivate for the upcoming Brighton & WBA matches, so perfect opportunity to make the change now. But we know that's unlikely and instead Reed will probably allow MP to indulge in bringing his preferred 'bit part' player from Monaco in and see how that goes before taking any action.
