  1. But skatesville probably does seem a lot closer, culturally, to say Widnes or Murkeyside than anywhere else in the south.
  2. Joking aside though, the £3m+ was at a time Doncaster were seeking to renew his contract. If they now know they can't then perhaps the fee will come tumbling back to more realistic levels. Seems that Billy-boy might have thought he was driving a hard bargain when Saints had a bid accepted but his demands could have scuppered that for him. Remember an interview he gave a week or so ago, someone on here suggested that was a 'can we talk again' type of interview although I suspect NA/NC have moved on. Tough titty Billy. Not that he will sign for Skates at the sort of fee he will fetch even now.
  3. Apparently he already has a flat in Winchester.
  4. And the skates have £3.25m to stump up ?
  5. Don't forget Austin.
  6. Good. I'll be delighted then when their education system and health services are funded purely from tax revenue raised north of the border, without MP's elected there having a say on what happens south of the border. But back to the original point, if a children's team from Scotland were partaking in a tournament south of Hadrians Wall it is not likely that organisers would remove ther flags etc.
  7. Here's a suggestion for the least inspiring,possibly worst,draw we could have:
  8. Tony Funnell ?
  9. Can't recall if it was in Dell Diamond, but I recall reading that Paine was week in, if at home, but not week out, if playing away from The Dell. Something that drove team mates to despair at times.
  10. What sort of player is Vossen then ? Looking briefly at the youtube clip, he looks a poacher/goalscorer, perhaps in the Barnard mould but as an international for Belgium clearly greater potential. A lot depends on eactly what we/NA thinks we need most, an out and out scorer such as Sharp or perhaps Vossen, or a pace merchant up front which is where most see Maynard would fit in. As a thought though, are we so desperate for a striker to offer pace, now that de Ridder is taking a front seat "on the bus" ?
  11. But he was enquiring about a let on Martin O'Neill's flat in Winchester, that much is true.
  12. Made I laugh.... despite comments from the moral majority
  13. voyeur
  14. and why are most people so confident that Jemmal is the answer to our problems ?* My understanding is that he only played about 30 games in his one season for YB, and has a disciplinary record that Mark Dennis,Jim Steele and Brian O'Neil combined would be proud of.(Okay, answered my own question as to why we want him - back to the Alehouse days !). * as opposed to Gorkks who is proven at Championship level
  15. I await the sash again in 2035/6 for our 150th anniversary, assuming I am still breathing of course.
  16. or the Latvian Jaidi. Presumably, after Pahars( 'the little Lat' ), Gorkss should he sign will be known as the 'lanky Lat'.
  17. I think thats a bit unfair on Gorkss to be honest. QPR had to up their bid a couple of times to sign him,and I seem to remember the Blackpool chairman publicly saying they want to keep him. As for QPR,they are now of course in the prem, and as such their priorities re squad has changed. As someone else stated they have signed Gabbidon, and with Taarabt (?) leaving Colin W^nker possibly sees Puncheon as a playmaker for them. Gorkss was highly rated when QPR signed him,and he was a frequent name on our HCDAJFU threads for a couple of years.
  18. Fulham away 1978, Friday night fixture towards the end of the season.
  19. Perhaps its (not) a close shave but Nick Holmes probably wins. In hindsight though Holmes beard may have cost him an England call up at one stage as it made him appear middleaged though still in his early 20's. He would however win the annual Saints Bjorn Borg lookalike contest for several seasons.
  20. Amber and black during the 1950's and 60's. Yellow and blue was introduced in 1974 as it was fashionable in the early 1970's (previously worn by Chelsea,Everton and worst of all ManU.)
  21. Good coverage here, commentary in German. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0sF6YRLzgo Better film footage than we normally get on tv,and from some away games on OS. Bremen, their supporters, and camera crew will be welcome back in the future.
  22. What became of the "Vokes is heading south" from Wolves story on Friday ?
  23. Not over enamoured with the selection of the away kit, have been saying for some time yellow & black would be a more traditional kit, and have preferred the navy/yellow combination rather than yet another yellow, shirts, blue shorts effort. Having gone that route we make ourselves look rather feeble, trying to copy Brazil's kit. Think both Palace and even the skates may have done that one, and made laughing stocks of themselves out of it. There is of course that to consider. I was there in 76,the yellow blue fashion reached us in 74 I think. Yes,liked the kit then, but we have done it to death since. Amber (or yellow) and black should be our away kit. In short, this is unimaginative, and better designs have been put forward on here. Assume this to be a one year design by the way.
  24. Interesting comments, but in all seriousness when did it last feel like it was our club ? Probably whilst we were still at The Dell, and some time before Lowe and reverse takeovers were heard of, perhaps even before Askham foisted Branfoot on us. In which case we are going back to the days of Woodford, in the mid 1980's.
