  1. And where, when and how the Oldknow connection came about ?
  2. I saw McManaman leaving SMS in a goup which included Oldknow amongst the party.Perhaps they have some connection from their days on Merseyside, both collecting hubcaps or whatever in their younger days. McManaman seemed quite happy to talk to supporters, pose for photo's, sign autographs and talk to supporters. He certainly went up in my estimation for the way he conducted himself here. Don't suppose anyone asked him "what are you doing here though ?".
  3. Just watched the skates edition from 1934. http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=28218 They even feature a dog in goal.Perhaps they could do with him again.
  4. Or in the Saints museum when Markus decides to provide it. I haven't seen the mural myself and although it sounds good I think they should replace it with a drawing of a train.
  5. Won most things in the air.A bit short on pace but put in some good -'really meant it '- crunching tackles on the ground. He's just the 'nightclub doorman' we have needed for the last three seasons.
  6. I was sat high in the Kingsland with a good view into the penalty area.No doubt the first one was shall we say, cultivated by Saga.Ball - and him - going out of play but invited the player to dive and went over. So, not a penalty in my view. Second one, too far away but no appeal from our players or crowd. So, unlikely. Shows how reliable a Sky reporter is then. Not moaning about our good fortune, but would like to see us deserving our win,and scoring a goal from open play.
  7. No you are not in a minority, of those old enough to remember the era of Toomers, or Patstone & Cox anyway. Another thing that started the decline of such shops was the branded shirts.A relative of mine knew one of the senior bods at Toomers in the 1970's.He suggested to him that it must be 'boom time' at Toomers after we won the cup.Surprisingly it was not.Admiral now supplied all kit to Saints free - so a major customer was lost - and furthermore Admiral's terms of trade were far more severe than they as an independent trader hasd been used to.
  8. That is an excellent find. "A famous and time honoured team of the south...." ..." these fine chaps have a reputation second to none ". No ego's there. The club had its own snooker and billiard champions.Wonder if they had a handbag thief amongst them ?
  9. And SCW with an eye coach...
  10. Anyone with a GL postcode - bar Rupert - should qualify for a discount
  11. Some 'good reads' published by them :
  12. So thats Euro2012 the Scots won't be qualifying for then.
  13. I follow your logic but : I think the scouting of new players, research on those identified as targets would have been critical as well as looking to review, and if necessary, enhancing the infrastructure of the playing side would have given the DoF plenty to do. I remember an interview with Lawrie whilst in the DoF post where he said talks with agents can often start 12 months before a player moves. Yes, it might of course be filling time until the right candidate, either Coppell or possibly a european DoF (more familiar with the role),is available.
  14. I too have been caught up in that sort of conspiracy. I think those in the security services - and those proclaiming to be ITK about such things - call it a 'hopleaf trap',as opposed to 'honeybee trap'.
  15. My guess is WGS. Very interesting but in the abscence of a more credible source than another club's fans site it is only a dubiuos rumour. One point though, I just hope MLT does not now become a continual 'rent-a-quote' for what Pinnacle might have done.I suspect he was highly embarrassed by the outcome of this episode.Whilst due to the failure of others he had largely become its public face.
  16. I'm surprised that JBrizzle or whatever his name is,has not already identified them as "council house scum". As you say this sort of thing could escalate, and expect to see reports in the national press of disorderly conduct at the check out in Lidl soon.
  17. F'kin outrageous ! They have a poster called 'Badger', and another called 'Miserableold-ishgit'.It is a breach of copyright,or plagiarism at least. I think 'Miserable Old Git' and I should assembe a 'firm' or 'crew' to 'rumble them on their own manor ' as they come out of their Temperance Society meetings, bingo halls or origami lessons.
  18. The Met Police had a tip off that some 'fans' were going there tooled up.I saw a couple of kids frisked and their peashooters and spud guns taken off them at the turnstyles.
  19. Yes lets replace it with a picture of a train.
  20. As were Lawrie and Bally. But it didn't stop it ending in tears. Coppell though is probably less likely to seek the limelight, which will allow the DoF/manager relationship to function better in my view.Should it ever happen of course.
  21. Agree with much of what you say,but I still believe our Alehouse team were on a par,if not better than the Crazy Gang .The Alehouse were certainly better players.
  22. I've never seen Jaidi dance though.
  23. Interesting last paragraph to that bit though, " the appointment of a sporting director will be made by Cortese, and not in consultation with Pardew ". Possibly pure speculation again though.
  24. That is the all too obvious conclusion to reach and shows how poisoned a role the DoF position is seen as in England due to history of DoF's. It seems to work at Reading and Exeter though where the DoF's are supportive of their managers. At Reading no one would really have heard of Hammond and he keeps a low profile which helps enormously. Asking KK might make it more interesting. And I wonde what Alan Ball really thought of the role and its implication for the manager ? As for Coppell,I think he has the intelligence and knowledge of the game to be good in this role. Don't forget its in the Mirror though, and the story may have been lifted from the photographs on this site.
  25. I have accepted the obvious pleas of mitigation ie three weeks late start after the Pinnacle fiasco, needing time to bring players in etc and find his own team. However AP now has brought players in and assembled a squad that would be the envy of most, if not all, L1. CLUBS. So no more excuses, time to deliver. We need points this month. Sadly, yesterdays result brought home comments on here after Stockport, that there is an uneasy feeling of deja vu about the start of AP's reign, reminiscent of Burley's tenure.
