  3. I expect they will be happy to play for nothing then.Just the usual "image rights".
  4. Don't be a c^nt,I can't see Keane playing alongside Michael Owen,or Carsten Jancker in our attack in Jaanuary.
  5. As for "stranger things have happened", Simon Clifford and a World Cup winning rugby coach must be pretty high up on the list.
  6. Could be the best midfielder at the club bar none, providing he does not spend too much time in the treatment room.
  7. Some years ago - maybe it has changed- but a relative who was a season ticket holder at Wolves said he was always impressed with the Saints crowd and that they did not get on the back of players all too easily. Young players in particular were also given a bit more tolerance with Saints than when they started than at Wolves where they would soon get a torrid time. This however was in the days of The Dell so perhaps that tells its own story. As for "scapegoats",Bally did I'm afraid have a few detractors in the weeks before he retired. Lew Chatterley was seen as being the epitome of this new blokes regime, having taken Ted Bates team down in half a season and then struggling to make an impact in the Second Division despite still having Channon and Osgood.Ian Turner who displaced Eric Martin was also none too popular. Both having been brought down here by the new bloke from a lower division club. Hugh Fisher also took a lot of stick for a while.
  8. Some of my older relations often spoke highly of Derek Reeves, and also George O'Brien.
  9. Thanks Deppo, and Manji . I was at the 1981 game but was hoping one of our more seasoned followers might give a personal recollection of the 1960 match. Your contributions though are similarly valued.
  10. Saw the story, and saw some bearded liberal tw^t,but did not realise it was in Skatesmouth. Perhaps she managed to filter details of the Skates new 75,000 capacity Aquadome stadium to the Russian WC bid team to impress FIFA.
  11. Anyone make a study of the earlobes in the Directors box today ? A steward friend said there were some wealthy earlobes present today, who might prove to be our salvation yet.
  12. The history of Prussia is an interesting one.
  13. 1960 : Derek Reeves scored all 5, Saints beating Leeds 5-4 at The Dell in the League Cup.Game disrupted twice by floodlight failure, I am sure I read somewhere that this was the longest a match had ever taken to play,as it was over 3 hours when it finished. 1981 : 3-2 v Man Utd., with that great KK overhead that was disallowed.
  14. Thought the boy Dia looked promising on his debut today. Can you imagine the headlines if his shot, just thirty seconds after coming on, had gone in ? Fair play to our scouting network.

    Winter break ?

    Ditto.
  16. Fair and valid point, but the prospect of Ball dropping into the old Division 2 was considered most unlikely. As for KK, that simply did not register on anyones radar or expectancy, and KK was then - and still is in my view -simply light years away from Keane in terms of his stature within the game across Europe. Do I expect us to sign or even try to sign Robbie Keane ? No of course I don't. The signing of KK was a far more outrageous coup for us than Keane who has never fulfilled the early hype of his career.
  17. Chicken and egg syndrome here though;had we seen more performances worthy of a "talented player" then perhaps the treatment might not have been so critical of him. Much of the time he appeared simply to be going through the motions. This is a striker with a proven track record at Saints however.
  18. Even the Brazillians?

  20. Interesting point, what happens if Israel qualify ?
  21. Sorry, but you can not mention David Hirst in the same vein as KK.
  22. Beast ( of a beer).
  23. KK. Even the possibility of Alan Ball at one stage would have seemed too far fetched.
