  1. He was definitely I'm no sinner and Crouchie's Lawyer. I remember he once posted about having a fiance, meaning that he was engaged to another man. Hypochondriac has become pretty widely seen (not necessarily by me) as a small minded, petty and odious little man who reports all posts showing any humour and then goes crying to the mods if he is pulled up for posting "humourous" comments on a serious thread.
  2. That just doesn't stand up at all. You talk as if this is a new thing, but there has been constant change and simplification of language for hundreds of years. The last major contribution to English was French, which combined with English 800 - 1000 years ago, yet English now is almost unrecognisable from that which was spoken then. Despite the changes to English and every other language in the world, language has always retained a structure, because it's needed for communication to work. That structure is evolving constantly but never disappears. If people start using split infinitives or using a blanket spelling of "effect", that's not the end of language structure, that's just the latest of many changes that have been going on since well before you could speak. The rules haven't fallen apart because we ditched the polite "thou, thee, thy, thine" for a blanket "you, your, yours", it was a change of fashion change and a slackening of the rules that you've happily gone along with.
  3. LBOIT (Little bit of irony there) Language evolves and the language you now consider correct is a simplified easier version of the English that was spoken just a few decades ago. If it has been okay for you to follow the trend and go with a more fashionable version of the language, why is it sad when other people do the same?
  4. I agree with Alpine. England will lose this series 5-0. There is definitely no way back now. Nobody can accuse him of just being negative, it was obvious from the first day exactly how this was going to go.
  5. I've had similar favicon problems to Jawillwill and Mr Saint, but it doesn't seem to happen anymore. Wish I could give you both some advice but I have no idea. It may have only been with firefox.
  6. Can't believe no -one's said Graeme Le Saux yet. Saints legend
  7. That's an interesting blanket statement. How do you feel about the Tory party's decision to privatise North Sea Oil some years back? Norway kept it's oil state owned and as a result has a national surplus rather than any debt. That's badly managed socialist countries for you though...
  8. A lot of people would only realise how fantastic the BBC is once it's gone, and we'd never get it back the same. No it's not perfect, but it is leagues ahead of any channel available anywhere else I've lived. It's also not just the obvious channels, but things like cbeebies, a channel for children without adverts and that tries to use mostly programs with some value for kids, is far far ahead of any alternatives. On top of this the BBC provides loads of other services, as an English teacher I often use BBC learning resources with my students and again they are far superior and more diverse than any alternatives. Like I say, it's flawed, but there's nothing and there never will be anything to match it. The rest of the world generally envies the BBC.
  9. ho tay
  10. I'd go along with that. Start using Lambert as the sub and he might start coming on with something to prove.
  11. On number 6 of your list: city's not cities
  12. Oakley was regularly slated for looking disinterested and not trying hard enough, often accused of straying in and out of the game. During Kevin Davies' second spell they often used to get similar criticism. Then he was injured for a while and it coincided with some pretty poor form. People wrote on here that it was Oakley that we were missing and that he quietly did the important stuff nobody noticed (nobody had really written this before he was out), then he came back again and was generally criticised, along with Delap, for being disinterested and playing poorly. He was one of those players who always got loads more praise when he wasn't playing. I know this is true because that was at a time when I didn't get to see or hear many matches and was mostly reliant on this place to find out how the team was playing. I can tell you for certain that in post match write ups Oakley was almost never described as having been "class", although he was often called that while he was injured. Kevin Davies was slated as an utter waste of space by about 95 percent of posts about matches at the same time.
  13. So your Aunt got a passport too? All you're saying is there was a lot of fuss? I don't understand how you can compare that unfavourably with this Hamza bloke as I'm pretty sure you have no idea how difficult it was for him to get a passport, which makes this whole comment meaningless. Two people got passports, probably both had to jump through lots of hoops first. As far as we can see they both had the same rights and still do, just like Kadeem said. There is nothing in your comment at all which illustrates a minority group getting preferential treatment. Don't understand your point here. Are you saying that all of the cars belonged to minority groups or that people abandoning cars are a recognised minority group who get preferential treatment in the UK?
  14. Whatever anyone else posts, that's the winner. So much so that I actually don't really believe you've eaten it.
  15. This was a sensible decision imo.
  16. The weird thing with cases like this is how many posters who you previously saw as fairly right wing, suddenly turn out to be part of the namby-pamby, liberal, soft-on-crime brigade, wringing their hands and calling for softer sentencing. Kaiser Soze is a prime example, but there are several others.
  17. You don't actually know what liberal means do you? Anybody pushing for tougher sentences and being harder on crime is actually the opposite of liberal. The liberals in this case are actually the people arguing fro softer or no punishments.
  18. Lallana
  19. I remember The Family Cat doing an interview in the NME in about 1990 0r 1991 very saying they were like Saints, "a great attacking team that never got any publicity".
  20. He's lost the photos! Deppo, you're in the clear.
  21. How many US states do you think there are? I've been amazed at how many people don't know the right answer. Try to answer without checking this thread or any other site.
  22. I have noticed before on this thread that Dune uses the American spelling variant "pronounciation" rather than the British spelling "pronunciation". I suppose he just likes to use Americanisms, which is fine.
  23. Dune, do you say finn-ance instead of fine-ance? Or have you just moved on with popular culture? Do you still use the polite form of the pronoun "you" (thou)or have you discarded that as it has become unfashionable? If you've accepted any of these changes which were once wrong, but now accepted, why don't you accept others that are happening in just the same way?
  24. This is all a bit pointless as language is meant to change, but I've noticed one formerly correct British pronunciation all but disappear over the years and that's "advertisement". adver-TIZE-ment = US English ad-VER-tiss-ment = British English I don't have a problem with it though, language changes, the original article on the OP points out that none of us say finn-ance instead of Fine-ance, yet this was previously "correct". If you stick with "correct" pronunciation despite the changes that take place, you'll eventually be wrong.
  25. I thought it just seemd like another really poor set-up video. They were all terrible actors. What a waste of time.
