  1. Black Coffee by All Saints is one of favourite songs.
  2. Odd that some people are saying they don't believe the OP because Austin would want to move up a division. The OP says that we have had a bid accepted. That sounds very likely, I think we could easily have offered enough money. Whether or not anyone else has done the same or Austin wants to come to Saints is completely different.
  3. Died 11th October Died 4th October Wow, Deppo was the first to guess someone who would die, but Gaz beats him by exactly one week with time of death.
  4. It seems a bit late to be guessing who will die in 2010. Who won anyway?
  5. Dubai is one of the places in the world that I have least desire to visit. It is like a beacon of so much that I find unattractive. What would I know though, I think Norway is beautiful and we've got no real skyscrapers at all here.
  6. Patrick Moore Kirk Douglas Nelson Mandela Nancy Reagan Zsa Zsa Gabor Clive Dunn
  7. Is there anyone here who doesn't believe this is really about porn tapes?
  8. I miss that holiday policy. Over here, if a national holiday falls on a weekend, you don't get the extra day.
  9. I've had both and like both well enough, but if I were to have one now it'd probably be a cat as dogs are just so cripplingly dependent. The whole thing about cats only being affectionate when they want something just isn't true in my experience. Cats are worse when it's a neighbour who has them. They don't usually crap in their own garden, but in other people's and cat**** is extremely toxic, which is pretty horrible when you've got small children wandering around the garden.
  10. Yeah, as opposed to just a little bit unique.
  11. The best face off ever between two great actors. It really showed the whole DeNiro-Pacino thing in Heat up for how insipid it was despite the hype.

  13. Global climate isn't actually the same thing as "the weather where you live".
  14. It seems a bit mad to complain about the financial state of the country, or about crime being worse because of less funding for police officers on the street, or cuts in the armed forces, education etc, then condone the greedy individuals who should have been contributing towards this to the tune of 15 billion, but sneakily managed to find a way to keep their contribution. I know a few people who earn plenty of money, but when you check their tax details on-line, officially have zero income. They are all odious ******s.
  15. It's all pretty slimy. Benefit cheats generally aren't that well off and are dishonest people trying to get extra money. Tax cheats generally already have enough money and are screwing the rest of us, who either make up the difference in various ways, or have to live with under-funded services, or live in a country in financial trouble, just because they are greedy enough to try to snatch more when they already have enough. People thought it was despicable that Pompey tried to cheat the tax-man, I didn't read any comments on here about how it wasn't so bad because Pompey create plenty of jobs or how as a business they stimulate the economy.
  16. Did he really pick up 10 points in the three weeks since he came back? That is some pretty over-zealous infracting by the new mod team.
  17. Yes, but when you post as me, you like him.
  18. All tories are greedy self serving and evil public schoolboy tossers. All Labour voters are socialist tree hugging vegetarian trade unionists. All libdem voters are namby pamby and wishy washy. All members of other parties are loony extremists. All non-voters are lazy layabouts who deserve nothing.
  19. Which opinion was that then? The one that pointed out that everything in your post was supposition and no fact? Which bit of it are you claiming as substantiated fact then? Apart from pointing out that it's a bit negative to keep inventing sinister back-stories, I tried to avoid giving any opinion.
  20. This is a very "saintsweb forum" post. There's not a single fact in there, it's all rumour and invention, but it's stated like it's ITK fact. Stuff like this then later gets refered to as stuff everybody knows about, when really, it's all just ******** and supposition. It's what undermines the optimism we should all have about our club. So many people just have to believe it's all shady business, backstabbing and ulterior motives. When the "we're being sold" thread appeared, lots of posters immediately claimed they'd known about it for ages. Then they went quiet when it turned out this was rubbish too. Everybody wants to second guess some kind of sinister plot going on. It's a shame, occasional bad results and performances aside, they can't just enjoy supporting a club which is clearly on the up. I think it's fine to come on here and criticise performances, players and management decisions and decisions Cortese has overtly made, but the whole culture on here of making up sinister behind the scenes back-stories really needs to end.
  21. Do you know I always have to check those two, but this time didn't and made an arse of myself.
  22. Hi Bateman, my point was generally about the inferrence that it is bad that many don't know the difference between effect and affect. In my opinion, this is just the kind of thing that will gradually alter the language eventually. I can easily imagine that in a hundred years time the word effect will be used universally as both the noun and the verb and I don't see a problem with this. As an English teacher, I would correct the mistake and explain the difference. What I find silly is when people talk about this gradual change as a dumming down of the language and a beginning of the end for all grammatical rules. It's simply not true, grammatical rules will always stand as communication becomes unclear without them. The shape of the language will continue to change though. This is already happening through the common American use of adjectives in the place of adverbs. Sooner or later this is going to become an accepted variant and adverbs as we know them could slowly fall out of use. A short while ago I started a thread about a BBC article about exactly this subject, although focusing on pronunciation. Unfortunately most people who commented didn't read the article but just the title about aitch and haitch and couldn't get beyond that. I don't know if this is supposed to be a wind up or if you just didn't read my earlier posts properly. I've only said that I think there should be rules in grammar and that although language is always changing and always has done, the rules have always remained and always will, albeit with regular changes. Most of your post seems to be based on the assumption that I don't think rules are important and can all be discarded. I don't really see what the "arrogant" bit is based on and you certainly don't explain it there. I spend a lot of time explaining the difference between present simple or continuous to pupils and I can't find the place where I've inferred that different tenses are unimportant. What I have said is that language has changed and will change. Nowadays most people split infinitives without even considering it, soon it could be considered a redundant rule. Has this made our language fall apart and become an incomprehensible mess? Does people using effect as a verb mean we can use prepositions randomly? Finer points of grammar will change with fashion, it's not just happening now, it's always happened, but at the same time there will always be a structure.
  23. Nice to see Ponting fail to have a "captain's innings" again. His failure to lead by example could see us hold on to the Ashes. The bowlers really need to target him, like some of our more brittle batsmen have been targeted over the years.
  24. I think the total was about right, we really are at the mercy of the weather tomorrow though. They'll obviously just try to dig in, hold out and pray for rain. That sounds like England for most of the years I've been watching them.
  25. I was also about to post the same, Junction 9 works with this sort of thing and has helped out a few people from this board before.
