I agree MLT was a fine player probably the most skillful player ever he did keep us in the PL but the years he played were not that successful for the club. Paine and Lambert got us two promotions played in World Cups played in European Competitions so that is why I think overall they have contributed more to the club in a positive way. We are now an established PL and were when MLT joined but 50 years ago we were far from that until Bates Paine Chivers Sydenham Knapp et al got us into Div 1

Terry Paine from Winchester and Rickie Lambert from Bristol Rovers were in my opinion the best two signings the Saints ever bought in both England Internationals one a World Cup Winner the other a player in the last World Cup were largely responsible for our rises from the third tier to the top tear. They will always be club legends lets leave it at that

I dont really understand why people are particularly worried about Jack Cork he is a decent player but not outstanding If the Club think that the youngsters are better than him I support them if they want to buy a better player than him I support them too. Of course if they re-sign him I accept that too but I doubt he will be first choice . The club does know what it is doing so lets see what happens

As we are in fourth position I think we should spend big on a Striker to increase our chances of European Football I will be interested in what the Club does like Koemann says our GK Defence and Midfield are excellent but we do miss a lot of goal chances
-
Well I could be wrong we could get a CL spot after all must admit I did not expect Everton Liverpool Spurs and Arsenal to be so poor perhaps they will play better in 2015 but on todays performances I doubt it. Koemann has done a great job and the players we have brought in I think are much better than the ones we lost I think it maybe time to spend some money on a top class striker to get us a few results
-
Dont worry we will not be in fourth position at the end of the season probably 7th which is really good
-
It is seventh and I think we will probably finish in that position in May
-
I would agree with you if the player was older but as he is a youngster I would think Southampton is an ideal club to develop your skills and start to play in the PL.
-
Yoshida was not very good today at RB not his fault as he is a CB and does not have sufficient pace to play there but unlike most other positions we do not have a reliable player to play there
-
I think they have done really well got a top English manager moving to the Olympic Stadium 5th in the PL I think their future is bright going to be one of our rivals for the forseable future
-
Morgan has played for us for seven years and is one of our all time best DM although I want him to stay he deserves to earn as much money as possible as well as French Caps and Titles at another club. I will follow his progress with interest like I do with Dyer Bale Walcott and OXO
-
Never seen him play so I was wondering how he has fitted into the Squad
-
I think you are quite believable Jeff Lambert aint very good anymore.
-
We dont seem to be getting anybody in according to the Echo http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/11685728.Saints_ready_to_complete_January_business/?ref=twt Koemann makes a decent case
-
Although it would have been nice to have won I feel a draw was quite a good result - Most reports in the papers suggested we played reasonably well and more than deserved a point. God knows what is going to happen to this board if we do eventually lose
-
I think there four starting Forster Cylne Shaw OXO and four on the bench Chambers Lallana Walcott and Lambert
-
From the BBC Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne was highly impressive again, both in defence and attack. There is an opening for a right-back in England's team and he has walked through it. He has shown enough to warrant a good run in the team. And I hope he will not run elsewhere
-
If he cannot get into Liverpool's team regularly in the bottom half of the PL he is hardly likely to get into a top PL team. Never thought I would say that
-
Come on Stoke keep the Spurs out
-
I dont think the wheels will come off I just dont think everything will always go right and we will win all our games but from about ten years ago for five years I was quite despondent so it is quite nice to have had five years of relative success
-
I understand what you are saying but it will not last for long so lets be happy about the way the results are coming in
-
Yes I know he did OK on the Pitch but SFC is a PL club which never had any financial clout but with Markhus and Administration we did so it was pretty easy to return to the PL and most CEOs would have got us there. It was the way that he treated employees suppliers the media old players and fans in an arrogant way that really made him ultimately unsuccessful
-
I agree with those comments never really understood why Spurs wanted him Spurs lose 1 2 Koemann so much better in so many ways so really please MP left
-
8 pts and +16GD better than Judas Pinocchio..........
John B replied to washsaint's topic in The Saints
With regards to results you are of course correct but Ted Bates is still to me our greatest manager got us from Division 3 to play in Europe brought in Lawrie Mac and laid foundations for our successes of the 1970s and 1980s
