Excellent season apart from the Royal London Cup difficult for me to come up with a player of the season with so many to chose from but I think I am going for Sean Ervine for his two recent centuries and his general all round ability but equally I could have gone for Jimmy Adams Will Smith James Vince Kyle Abbott or James Tomlinson. Really glad to have overtaken Worcestershire who we beat comprehensively at Portsmouth in 1974 only for them to beat us to the Championship as I think we were unable to play our last five days of cricket due to bad weather and did not gain any bonus points. For the future I think we need a really good number three batsmen another seamer possibly Kyle Abbott not sure what has happened to Danny Briggs and who to have as wicket keeper

Anyone else think we could be on the verge of something special?
John B replied to washsaint's topic in The Saints
Yes I did We had a strong team they had a weak defence we were in form and had not won there for over 25 years They had a long run of winning in the Cup which was likely to come to an end Stoke is something different a bit of an anticlimax but of course we could win but would not put any money on it -

I am 68 years old been supporting the Saints for over fifty years so experience tells me that we are just going to consolidate our position as a top ten club to progress higher we need to beat the elite clubs regularly. Dont really see that happening Doubt we will beat Stoke in the League Cup -

I agree with most on that we are just going to consolidate our position as a top ten club to progress higher we need to beat the elite clubs regularly. Dont really see that happening Doubt we will beat Stoke in the League Cup -
Yes first time for quite along time getting rather nervous Cannot believe 5 wins in a row could be achieved

Of course you can predict after five games but it will not be so accurate as after twenty games or after thirty games All I know is that our results against Liverpool West Ham WBA Newcastle are not as good as they were last season so there is a possibility that we may not do as well as last year but after ten games we will have a clearer picture I have no idea where we will finish but the usual suspects will probably finish in the top 7 and we will be 8 to 13 What about you
-
I think what he is saying makes sense if we sell five players next season it is unlikely that we will get in good replacements Just say no to tranfer requests something most posters were saying in the Summer although we are second we have not beaten a team which has recently played in the CL
-
You are right after five games we have 10 points But last season against Liverpool West Brom West Ham Newcastle and Swansea we got 12 Points this season we have only got 10 so we are minus 2 points
-
AND WE ARE SECOND IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE

Dont think I have felt so good about the Saints since we got to the Cup Final in 2003 especially after the gloom and doom of July I think Katarina Reed and Krugeur should be congratulated in selling five players for nearly £100k and replacing them with possibly better players Koeman may one day become the best manager we ever had if things work out really well he is certainly the dogs bollix at the moment
-
Dont seem to be missing the defectors Defence seems very strong in fact has conceeded less goals than anyone else except for Man U who have conceeded 3 the same as us. Midfield keep scoring so looking forward to Arsenal game. Overall I think Koeman is an improvement on Poch

If there were turnouts of 80%+ in the UK the Tories would be worried as the poor hardly vote and I doubt they would vote for them

Need to bat for another 24 overs or so

I think we did well in getting rid of Lovren for £20m as comments from the Guardian suggest he is not top class 'But on the evidence of the last two games Lovren is nothing like the smooth operator that so impressed Rodgers when Southampton won at Anfield last season'.

Koeman linked to Newcastle (During the summer... sort of)
John B replied to bangkoksaint's topic in The Saints
Typical Drivel from a Forum Poster It does not say that Newcastle are after RK to replace Pardew -
Just because we have beaten West Ham and Newcastle does not mean we will beat Everton Man U Arsenal etc but of course time will tell
-
Although we played very well Newcastle were rubbish we are not going to have any easier games than this so I am not getting too excited at the moment. However the defence is very tight and I fully expect us to finish upper middle table but really want us to try very hard in the two cup competitions.

Very well put Wes I am looking forward to the Arsenal game hope we put out a good team we should then have a chance

I would be interested to know the goals we scored last season after 80 mins The impression I have is not many as we may have been tiring but I maybe wrong -
Gaston Ramiez to Hull on Season Long Loan - Official
John B replied to NorthamSteve's topic in The Saints
Very much agree it will be interesting to see how many times he plays for Hull He has hardly played much for two years I just cannot see how he can get match fit with us and Hull is such a lovely place -
Van Gaal or Koeman? Which great Dutch manager would you prefer?
John B replied to SaintRobbie's topic in The Saints
I think anybody who spent £200m with high wages could get us to the next level But to answer the Question I think Koeman is the right person to be at SFC at the moment as we start with a 'new' team he has settled in well -

I know you do Wade but unfortunately like others you seem to expect the worse . We have lost Lallana Lambert and Shaw their replacements seem to be pretty good players. In addition we have recruited a very good Goalkeeper and a pretty good additional Striker But we did lose Callum Chambers who has great potential but was not an integral part of the team. The only loss we have not fully covered is at CB where we have no idea of the capability of Gardos but we would be pretty unlucky if he turned out like Forren So with the new manager I feel we have not had a bad window considering we lost key players and Poch . We seem to be keeping both Schederlein and Cork and if we get in a couple of other players I feel we will be fine but only time will tell. I have been supporting the club since the late 1950s and I feel that it is in the best position it has ever been in on and off the field.
