Agree with that. He installed a winning mentality which Adkins has been able to just pick up and carry on running with. Pardew kept saying the players had forgotten how to win. He deserves a hell of a lot more credit than I'm sure he will get here. But of course without Markus and Nicola none of this would have happened.

The runs are only aimless cos nobody picks him out. If you watch him carefully his movement and runs are very clever. Like a younger and fitter Connolly who for me has the best footballing brain in the whole squad.
-
Agreed. If the OP was impressed seeing him live yesterday its a pity he wasn't there for the Ipswich game where he really was excellent. Looks a better bet than Sharp at present but in the long run that may change.
-
Cant say too much cos my mate has a touch of man love for Rickie but he was poor today by his standards.
-
I'm not sure I would say he is that bad, in fact he isn't bad at all, its just that he is more a steady eddie defensive minded midfield player who I dont think is needed at home given the quality we have that he is keeping out the team. Away from home when you need to dig in and repel all borders (Leeds last week) then fine, he's a decent selection. But not at home.
-
Is this the same Robert Pires who played wide attacking midfield for Arsenal and scored more than his fair share of goals ? Apart from both being French I can see no comparison whatsoever.
-
We will always pass sideways and backwards a lot more with Hammond in the team. Its his stock ball, sideways sideways sideways all the bloody time. I dont understand for the life of me how Hammond is better than Chaplow or Cork in central midfield, not at home when we need to attack and dictate anyway.
-
He was poor first half but he was hardly alone was he ? Second half he played well. He was no better or no worse than anyone else today so give the guy a break ffs.

Oh for **** sake, Ive got a ticket for the Bournemouth show this month, just watched the trailer and who is the special guest star ? Harry ****in Redknapp. Oh fantastic

Bet THEVMAN doesnt post any details on this thread Come on SClarke where are ya, and a few other regulars ?

One of my worst memories that bloody game. I can still see that ball hit a divot and pop up for Heath to nod in. The bastard.

45 living in Bournemouth but originally from and lived in Weymouth......so I'm getting closer to Southampton :-) First game - Hull City at The Dell the week before the 76 Cup Final. We won 1-0 and Bobby Stokes scored....as he would the following week of course, God bless him. First away game - Bristol City around 1978 ish, we lost 3-1 I remember that much and the stand at Ashton Gate felt like climbing a mountain where it was so steep (to an 11 yr old anyway) I too cant believe the number of us over 40's on this board.

How many other teams play without a keeper on the bench?
beatlesaint replied to simo's topic in The Saints
I hope it makes the Football League look at this subs rule and change it back to 7 next season. By the logic they used to reduce it to 5 they are now doing goalkeepers out of a living :-D -
Oh boy, you are priceless aren't you ? FYI - West Ham drew their last game at home to Crystal Palace 0-0, up until tonight that was their game before last, hardly "winning everything with ease"

He was very very deep for most of the time he was on the pitch, only Adkins knows why I suspect.

Of course it is alpine, but I honestly dont think it has anything to do with race, creed or colour. I get no feeling of that actually sat at St Marys, and unfortunately I am old enough to remember that feeling from 30 odd years ago when there was a real issue of racist behaviour. Give it to Ron has pointed out a number of players who have had stick, add Alan Ball and Paul Telfer to that list. The stick Guly gets from some, not all, is as has been pointed out, but you chose to ignore it, because of his laid back style of playing football. And at 0-0 or 0-1 many people let reason go out the window and pick on that, its not because of his skin colour.
-
Absolutely 100% correct.
-
All this racist talk about Guly is rubbish.....years ago there was a period when Alan Ball got some stick, was that because he had ginger hair ? The reason Guly gets stick, I think, is simple. If we are 3 or 4 up in a game and Guly mis controls or loses a ball easily then everyone is relaxed about it. If its a tight game and its getting frustrating and he does it then because he looks so casual people start getting upset and throwing abuse at him. But its him, its what he does. One minute he can do something incredible and the next something you wouldnt see in a playground. Because he looks casual doesnt mean he doesnt care or he cant be bothered, its the player he is. Ok he isnt in the best form right now but form comes and goes, I give you one Kelvin Davis as an example of that. Adkins rates him, he uses him as much as he can (personally I think De Ridder is worthy of a start sometimes but doesnt get it, my opinion doesnt count as much as the managers) so I suggest people support him instead of get on his back so much. Together as one isnt just a snappy little Adkins line you know, it actually means something !!

Thanks for that link, really brings home the scale of loss throughout Southampton. I was surprised to see the number near and around The Dell and then out towards Shirley, obviously the area around where St Mary's Stadium is now is well known as homes for many of those who perished but I didn't realise the effect in those other areas of the city. I hope the new Sea City Museum pays a fitting tribute to those many hundreds of families that were affected by the tragedy.
-
Well funnily enough it was when he had a little, and I mean little, run in the side, around Christmas. Played very well against Palace and Bristol City. Then he picked up an injury and was back out the side.
-
Simply because, and ignoring delldays sarcastic little comment, I believe he would be better than Puncheon was at Leeds. No other reason than that.
-
Aint that the truth.....in the past, but I just wonder if this current team/management havent got a little bit more about them than those that have gone before. Lets hope so.
-
Would certainly go with De Ridder if Lallana not quite ready. I think Sharp will start this one too.
-
Nobody was quite as bad as Puncheon IMHO. Chaplow had a good second half in relation to the way everybody played tonight. Still, who cares, 3 points, blue line, we move on etc etc
-
Not as sad as the one who voted for Puncheon......at least Guly knew what colour shirts our players were wearing.
