Breaking news sky sports - Pochettino will leave if NC quits
Minty replied to Made in Southampton's topic in The Saints
I'm sure that money is part of it, but without faith in the person who will deliver that money to him, and who will help maintain sustainable finances in other aspects of the business, he wouldn't be here. The experiences of our skate neighbours should be enough to demonstrate that - as each owner came and went, a lot of the fans were only concerned with the money that was (allegedly) being brought in. Had they looked more closely at the track records of the people with that (alleged) money, or who were going to manage that (alleged) money, perhaps they wouldn't be where they are today. -
I can't believe that the integrity of the game means so little to the FA nowadays...

It's a bit more subtle than that, and I'm sure your position and trousers' are closer than you think... I know there were previous jobs where I was initially tempted to join because of the enthusiasm of the person who recruited me, and then I grew to like the company as a result. Equally, I've worked in places where I didn't like my boss particularly, but believed in the company. What I would say is that the relationships you develop at work have more bearing on a happy and healthy employment than just who it is you work for, because that is what guides every day at work. You have to deal with these people every day. But everyone will be different. So it is no surprise at all for me that after just 4 months, AT THE MOMENT, MP feels more loyalty to the person who recruited him, than the club itself. -

Completely agree with everything you said, and said something similar on the previous page... but unfortunately I *don't* find it amazing that people can't see things from another point of view. This forum is full of people who can't, so it ceased to be amazing to me a long time ago!!! -
Irrespective of your opinion of women's football, this is just wrong IMO. Doncaster Belles, the ONLY ever-present member of the Women's Premier League since it was created in 1991, are to be 'relegated' from the top flight, seemingly because they are not as commercially attractive as Man City, a club whose ladies team have NEVER competed in the top flight, and only last season appeared in the second-tier for the first time ever. Take from http://popularstand.wordpress.com/2013/05/13/the-belles-toll-on-the-fas-relegation-of-the-doncaster-belles/ Should you be so inclined, a petition here: http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/doncasterbelles

I would suggest there's a subtle difference between a player expressing concern about the future and 'all the players going to leave'. -

All pretty straightforward to me. Cortese needs to negotiate his contract and future plans for SFC with the Liebherr's. He has used the media a bit, just like players and agents do, to perhaps create a bit of pressure in the process. Pochettino and doubtless many of the players have been sold a vision of the future by Cortese, and so would understandably doubt and be anxious if the key person involved in creating that vision were to no longer be here. Cortese will speak to the Liebherr's, chances are it'll all be resolved. If it's not, then all change... but it's football, no one should ever be surprised that something like this might happen. -
Loic Remy arrested on suspicion of rape
Minty replied to KelvinsRightGlove's topic in General Sports
What always concerns me is when there are, as in this case, more than 1 person implicated. 3 lads, one girl, doesn't sound like your average one night stand (not for most people anyway), and automatically makes me wonder about what was intended. -
I'm gonna defend alpine here, because I think he has a point... thing is, there are different degrees of consistency. Every team in this league is now capable of beating anyone on their day, and the top teams are clearly more than capable of losing to teams near the bottom... seemingly far more than I ever remember feeling when we were last in the top flight. That's what made some of our wins vs Man U in the past all the more memorable. We do need to be more consistent, we should be aiming for that, but nobody expect Man U levels of consistency... I'd be happy with WBA or Swansea levels of consistency next season!

Signed up for my first, but probably won't do it every year... I'm looking forward to doing other smaller events more. Did my first 10 mile run for about 2 months last Sunday morning, and came home in about 1h 20m still which I'm pleased with seeing as I've really struggled to run regularly recently cos I've been so busy. Also applying for a Golden Bond place with a charity for London Marathon next year, so need to start getting back into a regular routine... need to book one of these 10k's I keep thinking about too to give me some interim challenges.

That's probably a really long list... I don't think we have any idea just how long. There seem to be no limits to QPR's capacity for f*ckwittery. -
Sounds perfect. Make it so!

Brighton capitulating poorly... go a goal behind and meekly surrendering it seems... Zaha scores a second and the fans stream out. Watford to beat Palace in the final.

Good news, thanks Rich.

Get well soon Peter... My Mum got to know him well when he ran a cafe in Hythe and my Mum worked next door in the newsagent... I shall make sure I tell her.

Fans match v Watford (away) - Saturday 8th June - DETAILS CONFIRMED!

On holiday unfortunately... -
Well, I did it once... before on the forum, I used to organise the Saints fans' football team which consisted at that time of listees from Saintslist, before it migrated over here more recently and Steve Grant took over. We played the Portsmouth fans' team at Mountbatten Sports Centre in full Saints kit one year and actually had a good game with no real trouble. We had some good banter and no real trouble at all - except for a return match one year when we played on the Astroturf at Trojans, and a couple of 10-year olds who had come up with the Pompey fans team stood on the sidelines throwing stones at our players! And then, more recently, was the game vs Pompey Online at Moneyfields, for charity, which also went very well (helped by a comfortable win for us of course!).

Premier League games 'free' for BT Broadband customers
Minty replied to trousers's topic in The Lounge
First time I'll have been able to watch Premier League football (legally) since about 2002, thanks to my BT broadband... which I didn't even want, but only got because Virgin were so crap with my install! Silver lining. -
In theory, the former... each country has it's own Aviation Authority who will set standards. But as a result, each countries maintenance regime is only as good as the standard set by their AA, and naturally the more developed nations are more likely to have more rigorous standards, IMO.

Yeah, careful with all that excitement fellow Nutjobs...

To be fair, I also realise I'm heading off on a tangent for this particular thread, so I'll leave it there!

Sorry Wes, my fault for not being clear... it was more the general issue of the economy and taxation rates, stemming from the UKIP proposal, that I was interested in, rather than UKIP themselves. You're right - it doesn't necessarily surprise me that peoples position on these matters are somewhat entrenched. But for my money, the only way I would increase support for my point of view is to persuade with a decent argument and interpretation of statistics, not snide comments and insults. I have several very good friends who are, broadly speaking, Conservative voters and supporters, whereas I have generally voted Lib Dem in the past (and almost certainly Green in the future) who I have had many and various discussions with on various issues, obviously with quite different opinions to them on topics... but we maintain a healthy respect for each other, we always try to demonstrate why we feel a certain way about things and, if need be, agree to disagree. But always without the need for much of what I've read here. There's a key saying which I use for many things in life, but that applies nicely here IMO: "Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood." I realise it is entirely fanciful and idealistic, but politicians, and political discussions would do well to consider that IMO... and it would help the wider public (those who don't spend much time looking at the details of such discussions, and only read the headlines) to engage with issues, rather than feeling like they are picking a winner of a boxing match.
