It is exactly what is wrong with politics today. A sensible solution is proposed, the concept put forward by Mencap not that long ago and it is turned into a political football. As a result thousands of people rotting at home when they could be out in the workplace lifting their self esteem and feeling valued will have to continue to do so. Their voice is regional and not national that is why their TV coverage North of the Border reflects that.

They should do it out of a sense of duty. It should not be a career choice. If it is a career they make decisions based on what is good for them not the people they represent.

Part of UKIP's appeal although it is also their downfall is the fact that they are not made up of 'career politicians'. In five years time it would be great if it was seen as politically stupidity for any of the big parties to put forward a candidate who has never had a proper job or run a business and who has no real exposure to the outside world.

I think that you will probably find in a lot of Lib Dem seats the local MP is well liked and there vote in many of their seats will hold up better than people think.

I would have interpreted that differently. I would say some of the traditional labour vote shifted to UKIP, while the Labour vote was topped up with disaffected Lib Dems. The Tory vote inevitably migrated to UKIP.

It hit the advertising hoarding and bounced straight out. Hughes did not even claim it nor in fact did anyone. It looked to al intense and purposes as if it hit the post. We were 1-0 down at the time and it would have made for an interesting game. Leeds then scored two more.

As somebody who voted UKIP in the European elections, I think you are correct. It would be 70-30 in favour of staying in. The rump of the anti EU vote would melt away and that would just leave the jingoism vote. I voted UKIP because it sends a message to Brussels that I see the role of Europe as an economic not a political one. Currently the EU model is flawed and its faults need to be addressed. I would embrace a slimmed down Europe which showcased free trade and loosened the ties that are currently suffocating national parliaments. We would be very unwise to leave Europe though, not because we could not in theory continue to trade with them but because in practice they would shut us out as punishment. The overall bad feeling it would generate would be catastrophic.
