  1. You cannot compare 20,000 acres of hill in Scotland to 20,000acres of flat land in Somerset. You seem to have posted a piece of Environmental Agency propaganda written to defend their short comings and the fact that their policy put birds ahead of people.
  2. I think you are playing with numbers here, there are 20,000 acres of farmland under water and countless communities cut off. This is effecting the lives of thousands of people whom I have great empathy with. The environment agency were of course able to spend £31m on a bird sanctuary but not on safeguarding the livelihoods of thousands of good ordinary people like you and I.
  3. but this is how it has been done for years. The problems only arose when the Environment Agency got involved.
  4. Not sure that you understood my question. How are my thoughts on climate change relevant and as it happens I am actually a great advocate of green energy.
  5. and what about the people that have lived there for generations
  6. Yes that is borne out in the number of coal fuelled power stations China and India are building. Did I read that it was 4 a week?
  7. Quite right +1
  8. I thought we led the table that season for more than any other team.
  9. I think he was sacked after the 6-2 result. Its all a bit hazey. We also lost 4-1 away at Sheff United
  10. If I recall the season he got sacked we did not win for 21 games in a row until Neil Ruddock's Penalty helped us beat Newcastle. We had a very good team and the results were not reflecting that. We also lost 6-2 at an already relegated Derby which will not have helped on the last day of the season
  11. In fairness they did walk the league last season. They cannot be that past it!
  12. You caught me late on a Saturday. Maybe you will agree with me more often now. Great cause!
  13. Interesting. As an aside I was told that a lot of the German graves in the former soviet union were being dug up due to the rising value of Nazi memorabilia.
  14. RIP Ray

  16. Polaroid link; There are two sides to the debate I am open minded but worry that people are fanatical without a healthy dose of scepticism. That video was posted not to troll but for people to comment on.

  18. I hope so. Best wishes to a fellow Saint.
  19. A legend is somebody who you learn about from your father and his father before him and that makes it a pretty unique club in my opinion. There also has to be a very strong association with the club. Would anybody else associate Keegan with us? My list would include; Ted Bates, Ron Davies, Terry Paine, Laurie Mac, Mick Channon and Matt Le Tissier. I am also going to add Bobby Stokes because of the significance of his goal in 1976. I think that Rickie Lambert is close but will just fall short. I think if Adam Lallana if he stays with us and continues his form will end up as a legend.
  20. Sensible post
  21. They seem to have done a lot of planning. I would argue that the whole of Europe was a tinderbox but Germany was very much the catalyst.
  22. Then why was the Schlieffen Plan was written in 1905
  23. Whether we like it or not, the high street is dead and buried. On-line purchasing will mean that shops on the high street sadly are redundant and most high streets will just be left with a Wetherspoons and a few charity shops. That is where future housing will be sourced.
  24. I think what Gove is trying to say is that the history of the first world war is being re-written, neglecting the context and true facts of the time. German aggression was to a large extent responsible for start of the war. There was also a considerable appetite for war amongst all classes in the early years. This was a new industrial type of warfare and it was the stalemate that was responsible for the extraordinary scale of the bloodshed. Don't forget that Churchill was responsible for Gallipoli and that probably was responsible for his black dog. I expect that many in HQ types were a pretty dreadful lot, immune to suffering but that is how they did warfare on both sides at the time. ‘GOOD-MORNING; good-morning!’ the General said When we met him last week on our way to the line. Now the soldiers he smiled at are most of ’em dead, And we’re cursing his staff for incompetent swine. ‘He’s a cheery old card,’ grunted Harry to Jack 5 As they slogged up to Arras with rifle and pack. . . . . But he did for them both by his plan of attack.
