I think that's the point. They've chosen an easy number to start with, which they will increase over time. I'd start with 6 or 7 personally.

Just means they have to have been playing in this country for at least three years before their 21st birthday. What they would have to stop doing though, is sending them to a feeder club in Belgium etc for a few years to develop. I mean it's not working in the sense that crowds are pitiful. You are probably right when you say that improved performances will cause increased crowds. But what happens if we don't get improved performances? Being a table-topping team isn't the only way of getting decent crowds to come and watch you. Other clubs manage it. But there is a sense of apathy surrounding Southampton. As far as I can see, little or no effort is being put into making people 'want' to go and watch Saints.

No offence, but that exactly the 'sit back and wait' approach that the club have been employing so far. It doesn't seem to be working does it.

In order for us to survive long term, the club need to make some serious efforts to get fans coming back to matches. Otherwise, sales in January are just a sticking plaster over a gaping wound.

I wonder if many clubs would fail that test at the minute?

Interesting that they are going to apply for planning permission to redevelop Fratton Park in a few weeks, yet aren't going to submit the application for the new ground until next spring. I presume something will be put into place to stop them doing one but not the other?
