I doubt it's indicative of Saints in general. He was half-hearting it on the pitch and off for five months to get his move. Bound to have some medium term impact. Be a shame if he does some sort of injury while trying to up his fitness levels though. Terrible shame.

I'm in the camp that says we almost certainly could have found someone with a better record for the amount of money we've spent on this deal. I could see this deal making sense long-term if we were comfortably in the top half, although in that scenario it probably doesn't happen. But he's here now, he's fit, he wants to play, and he may end up putting away some of the many crosses we do put into the box. I'll judge him at the end of the season. If he keeps us up that'll be great and I'll name my first born after him. Probably. If we go down he's not really the one to blame anyway.

Never could decide if we dodged a bullet by not getting him, or if we would have been the right environment for him to blossom. Under Puel it was probably unlikley. Under MP it would never happen.

Why not just get Berahino? Younger, fitter, less productive.

I think it was more they have been interested previously. He's not really a replacement for Coutinho, and they already have Keita coming in the near future. Plus Salah, Mane, and Firmino. Not sure how Promes would fit in there. But don't stress. here's not coming here either.

If this WAS a smokescreen (and I highly doubt it) it would be bloody hilarious to see some of the mongboard regulars reaction.

I have to say I don't mind if the board takes at least a few moments to contemplate what laying out 30 million for one player means for the bottom line. Which is not to say I would be angry if it happens.

I'd be more annoyed about it if any of our various other game plans had shown any merit.
