so McCarthy has one good game and some of you want to ship Forster off? i thought the whole point, when Forster was off form, was to have competition at the GK spot. Forster has quality, let the two have a healthy competition for the spot. Keep each other on their toes.
-
I see our point total and how the 3 points we are from the relegation zone and logically you might say we are in a relegation scrap, but it's really hard to imagine it's possible. Swansea and Newcastle as surely going down right? I am thinking Stoke, West Brom, Bournmouth or Brighton likely take the third spot. this website, which i have relied on in the past is noting that 35 points based on current season form will get you 17th place. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/England/Southampton.html A win Saturday would take us to 21.. surely we could scrap 14 the rest of the way. Keep the Pelligrino (for now), sell VVD, pick up some 2 quality players in January. We should be fine. Re-evaluate Pelligrino in May.
-
to my eyes, it seemed Pellegrino's strategy in the 2nd half was to defend and protect our 1 goal deficit. Success, I guess.
-
and how wonderful that our best two players were involved in the allowed goal. Yoshi committing the foul in prime free kick range and Forster who couldn't be bothered to look up and defend the free kick. i still don't fear relegation Swansea, Newcastle, West Brom way more likely.

So what do you think the reaction to Puel will be at St. Mary's Wednesday? polite clapping? collective yawn?
-
it's alright, but it did get me thinking.. ----------Austin--Gabbi----------- --------------Boufal--------------- ---------PEH-------Lemina------- -------------Romeu--------------- Bertranrd--Hoedt--VVD--Soares ------------Forster--------------- we could go back to the 2-4-4 diamond formation that Puel abandoned early last season.
-
got to love it on here.. typical poster.. Romeu and PEH were awesome... why didn't Lemina start?!! Austin has to start every game. Why isn't Gabbi playing more?! I would like to see this mythical 11 player formation that accommodates everyone!
-
In the process of defending Silva, he fell to the pitch and Silva stepped on Cedric's left arm. I dont think it was malicious, but it looked very nasty. you can see a piece of skin flapping around in the replay. best case: deep cleat puncture wound. worst case: broken arm. the physios knew right away he couldn't continue.
-
needed that one badly just to get a bit more comfortable in the table. Good Win. That being said, i am not going to get too excited; get back to me once December is over.
-
This. It really is. Next 7 matches, which is then the halfway point in the season: Everton (h) City (a) Bournemouth (a) Arsenal (h) Leicester (h) Chelsea (a) Huddersfield (h) Were are the 7 points in there to get to the mythical 20points halfway point? Where are they if we don't beat Everton? Huge match Saturday. we need to get a minimum of 7 points in our next 7 matches, which is the halfway point.
-
Pretty much this, but.. you can hardly blame them. Guess what? A quarter of the season done and dusted and the club is going to end up anywhere from 7th to 17th...and the players know that. i get that players can/will/should play for pride, but that is all there is left to play for this season after 10 matches.
-
4 extra minutes... 3 of which were a substitution and Jose's sending off. ********.
-
i am of the opinion VVD needs to start. It's kinda why we put our foot down this summer, no? He needs to be on the pitch.
-
Never. But in all fairness, Everton's first 5 matches have been against Stoke, City, Chelsea, Spurs, and Man U. We might have earned 1 point from that run of games.
-
my desire is to have the Saints win every match. i don't see how booing VVD when he is on the pitch supports that desire.
-
if we could just get either Tadic or Boufal going on all cylinders, i feel like it would make the difference between a 13th place finish and a 7th place finish. so frustrating because you see flashes and you know they should have it in them. we need consistency more than anything.

Summer 2017 Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - £35 million Summer 2016 Sadio Mane - £34 million Chamberlain, even taking a paycut, is still on higher weekly wages than Mane, as well. Craziness.
-
Despite our current form, surely we would have thought, on paper/potential, there would be goals in the players we have on the squad. first XI -----------Gabbiadini----------- ---Tadic---Boufal---Redmond-- -------Lemina------Romeu----- Bertrand--VVD--Hoedt--Cedric -------------Forster------------- 2nd XI -------------Austin--------------- ---Sims-----Long-----Prowse--- ------Davis------Hojbjerg------- Targett-Yoshida-Stephens-Pied ------------McCarthy------------
-
maybe VVD thought he was signing a 6 month contract.
-
On pace for 63 points this season. that's all i got

Considering the severed relationship between club and player at this point, It would be stupid to decline a £70mil offer from Chelsea, City or Barcelona. I am pretty confident they wont sell to Liverpool under any circumstance.
-
This. £15m is a joke. at least £25m, but even then, I can't see selling him at this stage in the window without a proper replacement. There is no incentive for the club to sell at this time and would only hurt the squad.
-
29 shots on goal / 2 on target?!
-
exactly. woe is us. 4 straight Top 8 finishes. I am trying to figure out what exactly Southampton is doing wrong.

Any Saints fans in Dallas, Texas 25-29 August?
SaintTex replied to InvictaSaint's topic in The Saints
Dallas in late August? Prepare for the heat. It will be hot! Have fun, eat BBQ, drink a Shiner Bock. good suggestion above on Deep Ellem. Texans are friendly, play up your accent and you'll have no problems striking up conversations.
