  1. I can see Saints signing another LB and Targett moving on myself. There was supposed to be interest from Newcastle and he could probably do with going elsewhere to be 1st choice LB.

There was me thinking the point of a season ticket was to go and watch the club you support, not the manager. I can't buy a season ticket because I can only make a few games because of location, but when I did I went because I supported Southampton, not just because of who was in the dugout...
  3. The Daily Star are quoting their source as ReadLiverpool; now even if there is a legitimate leak, isn't it funny how it's on Liverpool's side? Jeremy Wilson is saying that Chelsea and Manchester City are the clubs in front (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/05/02/arsenal-poised-miss-alexandre-lacazette-top-summer-targets/). I'd be inclined to believe someone with genuine links to Southampton personally.
  4. http://sportwitness.co.uk/players-father-frank-potential-move-southampton-chelsea-says/ If Christensen is supposed to be coming to Saints, someone should let his old man (and agent) know...

    Fraser Forster

£4m is peanuts in this market. We would sign another goalkeeper when FF goes this summer.

Soccer-Rumours.com is a windup site. This was posted today, for example: http://soccer-rumours.com/?story=10&buying=2&selling=1&player=10&alias=0&bid=35
  7. Usual suspects crawling out of the woodwork when Saints don't win. Funny that...
  8. Interesting last para..

Koeman had final say (which he should have had as manager), but if Puel is more in line with how the club want to operate on and off the pitch then it'll go back towards the players being better suited for the next manager, instead of having a manager who wanted to go against the policies in some aspects. For me I hope we would add pace in attack and more muscle in defence/ centre mid.

I'm of the position that Puel needs more time to tailor the squad to how he wants it to be. Apart from Gabbiadini, who of the main strikers play the way he wants to or is suited to a possession based style? Shane Long and arguably Charlie Austin aren't to be honest, and Jay Rod for me isn't reliable enough to pin our hopes on. Koeman was given leeway to bring in players who fit the way he wants to play, but from what has been said before isn't the same way Saints would prefer to play. Personally I'd like to see him be allowed to sell the players that don't fit but more importantly be allowed a sizeable budget on top of whatever we get from sales to bring in players who are better suited. For me that includes a new GK, another CB (2 if VVD goes), another LB to replace Bertrand were he to leave, a DM and 1/2 forwards, whether that be a striker like Gabbiadini or someone who can play out wide like Jay Rod used to under Pochettino.
  11. Definitely not too far off the mark I'd imagine, but more near £350m for me. As you said it's only subjective though.
  12. That's fair, but like Romeu I'd expect him to play a lot more; he's had to adapt to playing football not just week in week out, but without a winter break which a lot of players coming into the Premier League seem to struggle with somewhat. £15m is fair at the moment, but his potential means that he should be judged with a few years in mind, not just the current player.
  13. Most figures seem far too low- if we sold Cedric for £18m, JWP for £10m or Forster for £15m I'd be pretty underwhelmed to be honest. Depends for me whether you're saying their value in respect to Saints or their market value in general. Højbjerg may be worth about £15m at the moment, but I'd say in my opinion as a young but experienced international with a lot of potential he's worth far more than £15m for Saints.
  14. Could argue that the exodus meant Koeman started with a blank canvas could get in the players he wanted. Apart from Pied, not sure many of the players (particularly upfront) are his picks as only Gabbiadini seems to fit the way he wants Saints to play.

    Marian Pahars

doesn't surprise me; mentioned last year that he doesn't like the fact his job most of the time was behind a desk, he wanted to be coaching every day. Would've thought Russia may have been the next step like Aleksandrs Starkovs but England makes sense with his very good English.
  16. big difference between £6m and £55m plus clauses... oh, and I'm sure VVD will have bigger offers.
  17. Almost as if they have a lot of injuries... http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php
  18. By what I have read past few days, they've agreed a deal for Stefan De Vrij. Highly unlikely they'd be able to afford both even if they could attract VVD over Chelsea, Manchester City etc.
  19. Exactly. Let's be honest, VVD is not far off world class; world class centre backs don't play for Southampton for very long, if at all. Not looking forward to him going, but considering we've gone from Lovren to Alderweireld to Van Dijk I'm confident they'll get the next CB right.
  20. That sounds like an agent leaking 'interest' to force Arsenal's hand in my opinion, but an interesting link all the same
  21. No, because there was an obvious demand. The fact we were attracting 21k in League One shows we had that core of match-going fans, so it made sense. Why spend money on another stadium when A) the demand is hardly outstripping supply and B) It's a UEFA 4 star stadium. If it was a crumbling shock, moving would make sense but it doesn't.
  22. Exactly- unless Saints have thousands unable to get tickets, there is no point moving. The quoted figure of £3k per seat (I think's been said) means that adding seats for non-existent numbers makes no sense whatsoever. If we run at 100% or thereabouts for a whole season or two, even for category C games, perhaps adding a few would make sense.
  23. Why do we need a new stadium? The attendances aren't big enough to warrant a bigger ground, nor is there any real need to move. As for Chinese players in the Premier League, that would be some way off considering how poor the national team is and the work permit problems.
  24. The whole tantrum was because he had what he thought was a gentleman's agreement that he could go, but Les is definitely the one who made him leave. Les even got 250% more than that initial £10m, what a foolish thing to do
  25. Is that why Morgan wanted to leave January 2013 after interest from Serie A and Cortese promised he could leave summer 2014 for £10m, if he signed a new contract on more money? But, you know, whatever fits your agenda.
