The press speculation on this is getting stupid they clearly don't really have a clue what is going on! I'm just looking forward to it all being over one way or another!
-
Shaw is to blame for letting the Ecuador lad get goal side of him before the cross came in and never recovering, fair play if he still get's beaten in the air by the bigger stronger player but Cole would have at least been between him and the goal to make him work for it. Crap game all round England can't keep the ball, can't defend and one goal was an offside handball the other a goal keeping blunder. They can probably stop practising pens now!
-
It's the loyalty bonus and % of the transfer fee they loose, Wayne Bridge handed in a transfer request because he didn't 't want to take the clubs money which shows the class of the individual.
-
No quote from Adam so no story for me. He may well want to leave but until he goes formal and hands in a transfer request or goes to the papers with direct quotes I'm not buying it! I do expect he will probably go this could be his only opportunity to go to a top 4/5 club his stock is at it's highest right now but an average World Cup and a mediocre season next year and he will never know if he could have made it. Can't say I'm happy about it but I'm not buying into all the hatred and bile bring poured out on here. He is just a young man trying to make the most of his career and earn as much money for his family as possible just like the rest of us.

Does anyone still believe we will be competitive?
a1ex2001 replied to Frank's cousin's topic in The Saints
Spot on! Everyone seems to be swallowing every rumour the press throws out there and so far the only player to leave was a complete out of the blue blindside and it looks like so dar the board are standing firm on the rest and at least demanding deals are done on our terms. The papers have had Lallana and shaw sold for weeks but they are still here funny how they all missed the one real deal must have been to busy making up stories about wanyama and lovren to notice! I'm worried but no point in assuming the worst, let's wait till August and see who us in red and white! COYS! -
Agree with all that he's clearly worth between 25 and 30 million and if Liverpool want the deal done quick then they need to pay nearer the top end and if Adam is desperate to get it done then he should put in a transfer requests and waive his share of the fee and any loyalty bonus. Bridge did it properly when he went to Chelsea so why can't this generation do the same?
-
Lallana's if he stays otherwise a new signing don't burden any of the youngsters with it even if they are really up for it!
-
We survived LeTissier retiring we will survive this no player is bigger than the club.
-
Slightly harder if you ignore goalkeepers and even more of a challenge if you ignore the silly rich clubs (Paris SG, Chelsea etc) paying way over the odds for past it big name players. 4 million+ for a player of RL's ability, age and standing is decent money there are very very few players like him who fetch that sort of money.
-
If four million is such peanuts where is the list of 30+ year olds who have been transferred for in excess of 4 million? It is peanuts for young players but not for a fast depreciating asset like Rickie (no disrespect to him being a legend!) We needed a backup anyway so that doesn't come into it we also needed to replace him and we now have more money to do it and don't have an unhappy player moping about the place wishing he was at Liverpool. Lambert could quite happily have sat out the next three years of his contract doing nothing if he was ****ed off. It's not good or bad business until you see the end result but what it clearly is is business.
-
Interesting question can any of the people in hysterics think of a comparable transfer for a player in his 30's where the transfer fee was bigger? 4m is an awful lot for a player in decline, yes it will cost us more than that to replace him but we needed to replace him in the next 12 months anyway, this way we get some money in to fund that replacement it's good use of an asset. Still a bloomin shame I hoped he would retire with a lap of honour round St Mary's but it wasn't to be his heart is elsewhere and his reward for all his time with us is just that.
-
This every time, it is only a problem selling Rickie if sufficient replacement is not purchased. This is clearly Rickie's decision and who can blame him a chance to play for his boyhood club and one last fat pay check before retirement, 4m is an awful lot of money for a 32 year old player who could be finished by the end of next season, an can all the NC fans please remember he was happy to ship Rickie off to West Ham in January so this isn't exactly a new board problem! All this talk of fire sales is hilarious so far we have been confirmed as selling nobody and seem to be driving some pretty hard bargains with potential suitors which really is all the board can do in the case of Adam and Luke, the deals will go through regardless but it seems we are at least trying to dictate the terms and the timing. Yes I'm nervous about next season but also optimistic, we are an attractive proposition to managers and who ever comes in will have a decent wedge to spend on players plus the next crop of academy graduates. This is the future for our club without a chairman willing to gamble huge sums, every year we will loose players and hopefully replace them with rising stars we can profit from.
-
Don't be so ridiculous everything is evidence of cost cutting and fire sales, we've always signed a dozen players, announced our pre seasons tour and unveiled the new shirt by now in every season ever ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Yet more pointless waffle based on nothing more than guess work, why do people persist in parading this rubbish like it is total fact straight from the horses mouth? Pochettino was clearly a good fit for us and it worked out well for both parties that's bleedin obvious the rest is just some words from a fan of Celtic who has no more idea what he's on about than the next man in the street!

Mayuka targeting Southampton return after Sochaux loan.....

Play players in there best positions to get the best out of them but we all know tgat -
Good luck to all those released it wouldn't be the first time if one if the academy lads came back to bite us but you can't keep them all for ever! Special mention for Guly always gave his best and was a key player in our meteoric rise hope he gets to finish off his career at a good club back home.
-
Totally agree with that! As for being four players off the champions league just because Liverpool did similar last year pull the other one the team they had to build on was packed with internationals and had England's best midfielder in a generation at it's heart and arguably the worlds best striker already on the books hardly comparable to us.

Cortese speaking to BBC for first time since leaving Saints
a1ex2001 replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
What a load of rubbish he spouts, the only star who ever wanted to leave under him was ox and he went so one has to assume that if shaw and Lallana wanted to go then he would have let them too. I do hope we do the same hard nosed negotiations he did though! -
I disagree with him so much he is on my ignore list but for once he is spot on! I don't remember people crying for the injustice of Bristol rovers loosing rickie to the leagues big spenders and look where they are now! It's just football live with it, there will still be a Southampton fc next year with or without Adam and Luke and we will all still be hear *****ing moaning and sometimes cheering!

Sunderland fielded ineligible player against us at SMS
a1ex2001 replied to Pancake's topic in The Saints
Where did I say that? I just said lets not bother enforcing points penalties for minor administrative errors the player was to all intents and purposes eligible all that was missing was a formality piece of paperwork it wasn't like Sunderland were going to be refused international clearance for a player who's registration they already owned and had received clearance for six months before? a fine is perfectly adequate for a minor procedural screw up that didn't give them any sporting advantage they wouldn't have had if the paperwork was correctly completed. The offense is of a totally different order of magnitude to fielding a suspended player or one with a dodgy passport for example both of which scenarios afford a side a sporting advantage that they should never have had. If this was a Saints player we would be seeing a totally different thread, it staggers me how people on here can't see the difference between a clerical error and cheating to gain an advantage. Your response does however remind me why your on my ignore list and make me wish I hadn't clicked show post this forum has been much more enjoyable without your ramblings! -
Sunderland fielded ineligible player against us at SMS
a1ex2001 replied to Pancake's topic in The Saints
I don't see it that way, from where I'm sitting it's some crappy paper work that the club have to file in triplicate for a player they have already signed and filled the same paper work out for a year before. It's a nonsensical the argument for him being ineligible is paper thin (literally!) and the sort of rubbish football could do without. Stamp out the real blights on our game and then look at petty stuff like this if you have to! Comparing this offense to fielding a suspended player is farcical one is a genuine football matter the other is a nothing incident. -

a1ex2001 replied to Pancake's topic in The Saints
Its an administrative error, if they had filled out a piece of paper that they had already completed the year before he would have been eligible hardly worth mentioning let alone docking them points, wasn't like he was on a dodgy birth certificate, a fake passport or a marriage of convenience! -
Wasn't convinced we needed him when we signed him or if a few seasons on Scotland would have dulled his obvious talent, he has certainly proved me wrong on both counts an essential cog in the machine and his ability is clear for all to see.

Luke Shaw is the best left-back in the world

The joy of having them both on ignore, seriously you should try it, it's like a magic formula for improving this forum.
